Ok so there is a thing for what "fever" I have ... "gear whore" .... I like the shock and awe effect setup... I only have a 10 foot by 12 foot high light truss setup with 12 truss lights and 6 light up light setup and trying to figure out the whole dmx controlled setup but I opened bussiness a month ago and from what I hear this is a big setup for someone starting out. Crash did an awesome setup seems really mature for a 19 year old I give him credit. it would be cool to hear back from you.
sweet so there is a dj term for what I am..... "gear whore" ... yes I like the shock an awe effect. .... lol only got a 10 foot truss setup with 12 lights with a 6 light up lighting setup and 2 jbl 515xt's But I opened for business with this setup a month ago I hear its a big setup for a dj that is just starting out but go big or go home right? lol
Even though all of it's not own by him, I think he did an outstanding job with rigging everything up!!! Way to go dude, that's the most impressing high school setup i have ever seen!
looks a little like the size of the disco's I do at my school, which speakers (and how many) did you use for this event?
we usually hang 4 line arrays in my schools cantine however since the renovation the acoustics of the room have been screwed up and since then we went back to using stacked speakers (3 1600 Watt rms subwoofers a side)
Hey Dj BigDaddy here. Just wanted to comment on the video. I thought the set up was killer he is a young guy so to have a rig like that is pretty impressive. Dont hate on him everybody goes through a bunch of learning curves with lighting. He will figure out what he likes and run with it. Killer set up!!!!
I have to admit, I get a kick out of reading these critical comments from users who have nothing near this scale of a show.
While it may have been a little better to put the stands inwards a bit more, I should note that, the truss is fine. Professional box truss is designed to run long spans and they're using stands with outriggers which can thoroughly support a span this long.
Thanks for posting the video Zach, it's good for performers like me to see what other school djs are doing.
nice set up own or not great video keep up, what i always say is people have the rite to there opinion, no matter how great a show is people will hate just as much as apriciate all the work and prep that goes into this type of set ups....thanks again for the video keep em coming..
Cool setup. I like the big video screen, I also have mobil disko located in Denmark, we also use video at huge gigs. The only comment i have is that the the distance between truss towers is to great.
In high school me and my 3 buddy's through dances of that size we went to the local Audio stores local pizza places and receive sponsor's like little league baseball teams often do and all we had to-do is mention there names and hand out coupon's we each cleared about 5 to 600 on a sat night. and the schools and boys clubs YMCA would sponsor the dances. Money came in donation 7at the door 5 if you bout a raffle ticket before.
I dont think he did it for the money, I personaly dont think that djs get paid, i think its a great hobby that pays for its self if done rite the joy of people and the amount of feed back you get out of gigs like this priceless...just my opinion
I hear you, I do it because it's what I love to do, at the moment I'm putting more money in that I get back and thats mainly because I want better euipment to put on a better show for the crowd
Thanks for these vids (part 1 and 2). Nice setup and quite a lively show. The only thing that I don't like is the Christms tree lights - they spoil the effect of the whole DJ's lighting (at least on the vid). The first thing I always do at places like this, is trying to get rid of or reduce/control the ambient light (especially that Christmas tree crap).
thats a shame!, i would enjoy watching gig logs from him to see what size setups he does use most of the time and see how he does things dependent on were he is!
is there anyway you could persude him to post a few vids please?
that was a sweet setup but he could have utilized it alot better like the lights they hardly moved and from what was heard there was barely any bass but still sweet he should have made the strobe stronger put it to its max
Yeah there could have been better programs for the scanners. As for the Bass there must plenty of it there. The camera mic had a hard time picking it up but trust me those Pheniox EV cabinets pound with Dynacord Amps.
I gotta say, that is one of the best gig logs I've seen in a long time. The energy was just way up there. I have a hard time trying to understand where the negative comments are based on. This will be one of those vids that will stand out for a long time.
That setup was nothing short of incredible. My brother and I have been DJing for almost five years and we don't have near the capabilities of that setup. We might someday, but not in the near future. I'm only 19 but this dj is pure genius no matter what his age. I hope he gets into some LED lighting though. We recently entered that market with some chauvet color palettes and they're great.
People hating on him also need to realize thow much work it takes to book and coordinate an event like that, and come up with the right pricing to make things worth while. He is probably just as good of a business man as he is a dj!
Much respect for him, and what he and his company are capable of!!!
for those of you who are "hating" on his setup, i can tell you that as a 15 year old DJ who is maybe a year and a half into the business, this guy is a true inspiration. no matter what you say. notice that the things you have said have never stopped any of us younger DJs, like DJ Josh, RRollergod, and all the others?

That looked like an extremely entertaining school dance. Gotta love the strobe burst during the Cascada track...gotta get me one of those Martin strobe lights and controller...perfect for those high energy songs.
Always better to have more sound and just turn it down, than to have less sound and having to push your system.
I don't think you should have to make any defense for Crash. We all have 24hrs in a day just like he does and he was able to make connections with a production company and provide the teens with something truly spectacular. Kudos to him for having a large vision!
BTW, I get the leaf blower with the toilet paper rolls, although, what was that thing that was shooting out the 'steam'? It looked more powerful than a normal fog machine.
Anyway i know a few dj's who CANT beatmix but still do & sounds awfull, at least he knows he cant do it so doesn't! Cuting & fading tracks sounds alot better than beatclash!!! [bdump bdump]
A whole lot of flash, which helps him charge more, I'm sure. Definitely not my style, mostly because it would take an entire afternoon (at least) to set up, not to mention tear down. Interesting that he only used the two tops and subs(hopefully he learned a lesson with that). Don't get me wrong, I salivated a little and wouldn't mind having access to all that stuff. :)
He got there @ 10am and was ready @ 7pm the dance started @ 730. he was there the next morning @ 8am to tear down. Not quite my style either :). Trust me though there was plenty of sound there, I was surprised that 2 15" cabinets put out that much sound.
These school partys are pretty sick, in holland schoolpartys are not so big :( ,
30% is dancing - 50% is standing doing nothing - 15 % is smoking outside - 4% is dancing wit their crush - 1% is drunk and is going crazy.
This is how it usually goes.
