Tomdawg, Cujo played hard but pro athletes are supposed to play hard. He never came up big when teammates weren't getting it done. All his teams got eliminated because he either got outplayed by opponents goalie (Irbe, Giguere, Kiprusoff) or had couple lousy games costing team chance to win on homeice (Sabres, Devils twice). He scored 1st round upsets in 1990s of teams good enough to win Cup (Hawks, Stars, Avs) only to get lit up like Xmas tree in 2nd round. Guy was either unlucky or overrated.

Joseph was so good in this game that you almost forget how his uneven play extended both this series and 1st round series against Islanders to 7 games and wore down Leafs in advance of Conf Finals against Carolina where Cujo would sink his team by losing 3 games in OT and another by allowing 3 goals on 15 shots. In 2006 Canes would win Cup and in 2007 Senators would make it to Cup Final (both outdoing every Leafs team since 1967). Why do Leaf fans still have any affection for this guy?

@industrialsun How do you possibly blame a goalie for each of the 3 OT losses, all of them by a 2-1 score? Toronto's offence was absolutely useless against Carolina, and their defence was probably worse than it is now except that they had a goalie to bail them out. Joseph carried this team in his 4 years here. Toronto hardly had any business being in the playoffs, let alone making it to the conference finals twice, if not for him.

@pajinski1 As I said, Cujo faltered at key times at huge cost to Leafs. Great in Game 7s vs Isles & Sens but weak in 2 winnable games of each series with chance to clinch early. Leafs then played extra games without Sundin & Renberg midway thru 1st round and were spent vs Canes even with Sundin's return. Cujo only had shot at redemption in those Game 7s because Isles Osgood and Sens Lalime each were total sieves in Game 6s of those early series. Plus, he had that dismal Game 4 vs Canes at home

Even as a Canadian I would agree that Espn is way better than HNIC. Bob Cole should have retired ten years ago and like most Canadian broadcast crews is extremely outdated. The only people they have hired recently is former goalies who are useless. Why do Canadian networks refuse to hire new talent? The only thing worse than HNIC is TSN's crew that hasn't changed in 20 years. I only watch a TSN game to get drunk playing the Pierre Mcguire game listening to all his absolutely moronic sayings!

Leaf fans like to point out that the Chicago Black Hawks haven't won the cup even longer than the Leafs. The problem with that statement is the Black Hawks will win the cup BEFORE the Maple Leafs do (I believe). The Leafs will then take over as the longest cup drought in the NHL.
