However, I don't see how puting on a throttle body spacer will do anything. On throttle body engines, fuel is delivered with injectors, straight to the lower part of the intake. The only thing I see a TB spacer doing, is changing the mass air volume, prior to air/fuel mixing. If you're going to increase your mass air flow, then you may want to put in bigger injectors as well. But I guess it all comes down to what your ECM will allow your engine to do, otherwise it'll throw trouble codes.
So far, I've only used spacers on carberated engines. I can tell a difference between using one, and not using one. They allow more air to mix with the fuel, before it reaches the combustion chamber, allowing a more cleaner burn. Without the spacers on my 292, 302, 355, and 400, I noticed takeoff was kinda "boggy". But after raising the carberators 1" with a spacer, I had more torque and no "bogging". I could also tell a huge difference in mileage too, because the carbs weren't getting as hot.
@westcarolina1861 The air swirling action would not need to reach the combustion chamber as long as the air/fuel mixed before entering. The swirling would stay into action because unlike before their isnt a smooth airflow airflow and supposedly this now rapid air flow causes a better mix of air and fuel before entering the combustion chamber and burning a better and faster combustion compared to the mix entering as loose molecules not burning as efficient. But I still have my doubts..
3:10 - 3:25 biggest bullshit ive heard all year!!! Sad thing is, it sounds true to the ignorant ear! Guys this shit doesnt work! save money for a tune up or for a custome tune, both of those will help way more than this paperweight!
I JUST put one on my 3.9L v6 dakota, it made a huge power difference now hopefully helps gas mileage. It now lays two black marks without posi, before itd barely squeek the tires.
Any air "swirling" is lost before even getting combustion chamber. Also you aren't mixing the fuel and air any better because the fuel is not introduced until just behind the intake valve.
The only benefit to a throttle body would be to insulate heat-soak from the manifold to the rest of the induction system but since these are made of ali, its just bollocks. As for the "vortex" effect created by it, well firstly it wont work, secondly its pointless and thirdly, its behind a throttle plate, making it even more pointless. If you a bit more power, get an insulating spacer that fits between the head and the manifold, but dont waste money on these.
Isn't that the case currently? What aftermarket parts are on the market currently that give an equal balance in power, fuel efficiency and engine life?
Furthermore, literally hundreds of dyno tests are on the internet showing throttle body spacers do absolutely nothing on Fuel Injected vehicles. Unless you'd like your Stang to whistle.
@WestCarolina1861 Why must I waist my breath to whistle when i can get my car to whistle, I wont be getting my breath back...plus I'd probably get slapped inthe face. Now if you explain to the girl that your car likes her so much its whistling at her, then perhaps you'd have a better chance of getting her number.
Oh and the aftermarket is here only to improve performance in either power, or fuel economy. The car manufactures take care of the balance part until your engine breaks down,
If you have a shiity truck or car to begin with You probably wont be impressed with aftermarket mods, like spacers You at least have to have a vehicle with a good amount of HP and suspension feedback to begin. These parts are best to be used on sport cars or sport trucks only.
I acts like a very small "Tunnel Ram". Remember I said VERY SMALL. If you want a whistle sound to impress the car next to you I would buy one. If you are building a intake without bullshit, Dont buy one.
Throttle body spacers don't work period end of story on fuel injected cars and trucks carbs are an different story. Heres the proof I own an 4.0 ranger so I have been looking it to performance parts for awhile and spacers don't do anything except make your wallet thinner
Hey their, i have a 07 tundra and bought the tbs, how do i know if i have the throttle body spacer the wrong way? ive tried it both ways and i can hear the whistle either way. i bought the taylor tbs though. And will my car mess up if its incorrect? Also i have it installed and for some reason my rpms are in between 1.5-2 wich is abnormal any suggestions? asap please
I read a study done by a university and they said to spacers do work but only if they are atleast 1 foot tall other wise it doesn't make a difference but then throttle response will have a delay
i think when people put bolt ons on the truck or car they think that it will make their car do a mile long burn out and you will have so much torque that it will break your neck... these bolts on will give you hp and trq but not enough to tell just by stomping on the gas.. run your stock car or truck at the strip then put all the bolt ons you can then run again your time will be faster but yet you dont feel much faster.. if you want to break your neck with power get a turbo or supercharger.
@ boomstickkid if it's a K&N don't do it, they aren't compatible with the airaid spacers. i have a spacer and poweraid cold Air intake on my 01 Wrangler and the K&N hit the top of my hood when i used it. tray one from AEM or Banks Automotive.
i have a Cold air intake on my 2000 silverado 5.3, im looking to get a spacer but it seems if i do it will push the boot into the fan/ fan cover.. any else have any input on this?
@boomstickkid Yeah my brother has the same problem with his 4.8 he has a fan in the way ... you could try putting your stock air intake hose back on and used just the filter for the other end but i still dont know if the stock would clear the fan with the throttle body spacer.
TBS do nothing people at least for the v6. I do know for certain v8's such as the 4.7l these did some some performance gain. But better chances than not u will see no gain at all
@lamiac2411 Problem is along with a cold air intake people think that's all there's to it. What you really need is a functional Ram Air Hood to get any benefit at all with this kind of install. This allows incoming air to pass directly through the intake into the engine. This doesn't come cheap and will set you back a couple grand with all the body and prep work. Although it is well worth it. I have a Chevy Silverado V8 with custom Dual Scoop & heat extractor works great!!
no matter what you guys say, they make at least 5-10 hp more to the wheels.you cant really feel that.thats why you guys dont really feel that much or any difference in power.you need to add at least 15-20hp for it to really be noticeable.but just remember, the lighter your car,the more difference you will feel.5-10hp wont feel like much at all with a heavier car.but its there.5-10hp here,5-10hp there,it all adds up.
I don't really think these things are worth the money. I had a tornado in my '02 F150 and between that and a throttlebody spacer, I felt no increase in anything. I guess the old statement holds true, if it was carbed, it'd be decently useful, but this is the 21st century and everyone tries to make a buck by selling automotive junk that doesnt work.
I've always been told that on modern Fuel injected engines they are worthless. And that they show small improvements on older carb and TB motors. Found a smooth bore one for my 4.3L V6 TBI blazer. None of that "helix" crap. At least I'll learn how to take my TB apart. Just rigged a airaid intake to work on it so why not? BTW the smooth bore ones do not whistle, only the ribbed or helix ones do...
I agree i have a poweraid throttle body spacer on my 4.0 jeep I6 with a K&N cold air intake and I have felt noticeable power gains as well as torque. I installed my tb spacer along with a hypertech maxx energy programmer so my opinion may be skewed but all the same I love the 2k rpm whistle.. I pretend its a turbo!
These are such a joke. The only time they do any good is if the nitrous nozzles are installed.

wow, swirling air does not do shit. The throttle body spacer itself sure does. If anything, it disturbs the air and reduces performance.

These give absolutely no benefit in power.
If such a simple thing produced such outstanding results wouldn't it have been engineered on the vehicle to begin with?

@WestCarolina1861 If that was the case then there wouldn't be a need for any aftermarket parts as they would all be engineered into the vehicle.
