the year was 1961, I was in High School and loved it. A group by the name of the Four Tunes recorded this in the early 50's and it was a family favorite.
I worked at Hurley's Frozen Custard stand in front of the palm gardens and listened to these amazing guys during practices and performances everyday I worked. At the end of the season they gave me a beautiful gold bracelet with a G-Clef charm on it. I still have it and value it to this day. I heard Ka Ding Dong today on the 50's channel on my tv and looked them up on u-tube how awesome to find so many of their songs!!! hope I can find them on I tunes to down load :)
one quick question that has bugged me for years.....are these G Clefs the same ones who sang the song Ka Ding Dong? For some reason i dont place any of the voices.......the answer is probably yes, but after 50 years, i need to know for sure.
This is a beautiful song sung by a great group. There was also another group from Boston that sang beautiful songs. Does anyone know who they were? They were in the 50s groups. These guys were not the Valenaires or the Four Chords. They had a lead singers with a smooth voice. If you know who they were please let me know. I'll come back to this YouTube sight to see if you known them. Thanks
I have loved this song for 50 years, years ago I lost my record. To hear it to-day really is music to my ears. Can any one help me to purchase a CD here in England. Thank you
I just had to hear this song again. I remember when it first came out. Timothy and I went to the Sherwin School together back in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Hey Tim, if you get this message, please drop me an email. Mike is my name. I use to sing with the Vallineers. We sang on the same programs together, your group and mine back in the 50s.
I grew up with these guys. We went to the same elementary school. Timothy and his brothers and Raymond their cousin. This is a great song. I remember when they first made this fabulous hit. Boston, Mass.
everyones music collection be it vinyl cd or download begins with one tune - this was mine - i was 9 when i badgered my mum to buy me the 45 - i still have it - a lovely song takes me back 48 years to another world
One of members of the group, Teddy, was my neighbor for many years in Arlington, MA. He was and is one of the greatest persons I have ever known, and the neighborhood if much quieter without him and his family. I even took his daughter to my junior prom. Their presence is missed in the neighborhood.
I can remember watching, well actually listening, to the G-Cleffs when they used to play live at Hurley's Palm Gardens on Revere Beach in Revere Mass. Talk about great music and a long time ago. I was young (12) but I can still remember sitting on the sea wall across the street and listening on warm summer nights.
Actually, this song wasn't a '50s hit. It hit the charts in the autumn of 1961. The G-Clefs were four brothers (Tommy, Arnold, Teddy and Chris Scott) from Massachusetts. Their "style" changed alarmingly from the time of their first chart hit, "Ka-Ding-Dong" in 1956. "Ka-Ding-Dong" sounded more like one of the up-tempo songs of The Diamonds (who also recorded "Ka-Ding-Dong" in the same time frame) or The Silhouettes (of "Get A Job" fame).
I just looked up the song. It was originally a hit for June Valli (as I mentiond in my previous comment), but also for a group called the Four Tunes back in 1954. The '60's versions are remakes of the song.
This wonderful song is still vivid in my memory. I remember I was just 16 then, and at one time when I was on our way to a picnic with friends (October 15, 1954) we were singing it, because it was then a top tune. Earlier in that same year, the songs Changing Partners (by Patti) and Secret Love (by Doris) were also record hits.
Thank you so much! I've been trying to track this down for 45 years and was ecstatic to locate it here. Ah, to be an impressionable 14-year old again...........
I haven't heard this for years although I think someone else recorded it but can't remember who. Something else we have in common I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel a Tricolour! You don't happen to play drums as well do you?
Beautiful

Sorry to rain on your parade, but the year for this was 1961. I was a freshman in college. Some of the best times of my life. Great song.

Thank you for posting this JL. Both this and the Four Tunes version from '54 are great, done in different styles.

This song was originally a hit back in 1954 for June Valli. I think others also had success with it in 1954.
