To the morons that cant tell a Arabian from a Quarter horse the two horses that played in this movie were both pure bread Arabians not Quarter horses you must be stupid if you cant tell the difference between the breeds
dat horse ran like a lil bitch though lOl na seriously i was a kid when this came out and today it just popped up in my head nd i decided to search it. All i could remember was dat i had a crush on alec.. and he had a horse... and they were like buddies nd stuff. I wished To santa to get me one... but we all know dat fool doesn't exist.. lmao now dat im wiser... it makes more sense to why i loved the movie so much..
@horsesaremylife31899 that frustration would get him killed if there had been any predators around. most horses would know to stay quiet no matter how stuck they where, wouldn't they?
3:06 When Alec turns his head and cries, it's so powerful. No dialogue; no music. Very haunting. What a great performer. He should have received an Oscar
The horse was an Arabian, and was very famous for his beauty, appearing on many calenders and tv commericals in the 70's . His name escapes me though...we have two 'ropin' horses, Rex and Brodie, both 1/4 horses, fast, gentle.
@onelasssttime same age as me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:) mom still says i cried out in the theatre and asked if the horsey died:( will never get tired of this great film:)
there were several horses used for this role, the arabian stallion they used was not particularly typey. also the carefully preserved desert bred arabians tend to be more...substantial in appearance because their war horse background is kept.
The toy horse on Alec's shelf is a 64 Black Foundation Stallion, available from Breyer between 1977-1987. But the film is set over thirty years earlier.
I'm 39 and haven't seen this movie since I was 10. My sister, Nickie, had Cystic Fibrosis and was always sick and at home watching movies. This was her favorite! She died when she was 6. What a great memory... and will always think of her when I watch this. Great movie! Thank you for posting!!
in the books by Walter Farley, the black stallion was thought to be mixed, part arab part unknown. so it's part of the story that he is bigger and stronger than a pure arabian horse.
I'm 53 now. 30 years have passed since I first saw this movie. More years than that have passed since I first read Walter Farley's book which this film was based on. After all these years, this is still my favorite.
@horsesaremylife31899 loved dogs + horses all my life. but between cost + space issue (can't afford boarding, don't have the land myself) i never had the opportunity to own my own horse. To answer your question, to me that means that any story that involves a mane, 4 legs, a tail, and a happy ending is interesting. other good stories out there with sad ourtcomes (phar lap) but i'm a happy ending kind of person. looking 4ward to the movie on Secretariat due out in fall 2010.
@horseangels Totally. I loved The Book "King of the Wind" by Marguerite Henry as a child..It was also about a beautiful Arabian horse named Sham and the boy who loved him
Could you upload some of the music from the film I am trying to find the cd but they just look at me like im asking for a push me pull you. Besides more and more cd stores are going online and my mum needs alot of coaxing to get anything of the internet.
This entire time I'm looking at the rocks thinking "Oh my god, where is that? I want to climb there!" call it my rock-climber instinct or, whatever, does anyone know where this movie was filmed?
did u guys no when the horse is tied up on the rocks, while filming they tie the horse on the rocks of course but to make it get in the behavior, they whip it till he gets nuts i no that because my mom grandma worked for the company and she told me all about it
Seriously? That doesn't sound possible; no offense to your grandma, but wouldn't it be pretty dangerous to get near the horse in order to release it, let alone act around it? Most directors aren't willing to put their paid actors in danger, especially since the kid who played Alec was relatively young and had to get very close to the horse.
Of course. If the horse hadn't been trained, they wouldn't have been able to anticipate the camera angles or Alec's movements, it would have been nearly impossible to film.
I absolutely adore this film, altough it's no where near as good as the book.
How ever I have got to say, the way they enterprite that the snake's been stalking the kid is ridiculous. Snakes don't stalk, no wonder they get such a bad rep.
omg what will the snake do i am scared!
