Dogs need some of the nutrients in certain vegetables. I am in no way some expert, but I seem to remember that dogs will eat pretty much anything that is edible to get what they need. Now, dogs will also et stuff that is not edible, but thats another story...

Corn cobs also seem to make good sharpening tools for guard dog teeth. One of the local farmers has two rotties that will EAT the spent cobs after a picnic leaving shreds behind. High in fiber and good for you too apparently

I used to have a golden retriever who would eat the corn off a cob, pick his teeth, dry the cob...and use it to wipe with. As much as I loved him...I ended up having to get rid of him. He had hidden one of his 'used' cobs in one of my favorite bottles of ale (which just so happens to come in a wide mouth bottle of dark glass). When I went to get a drink, and that thing came sliding out, that was the last straw.

He knew something was wrong when he saw the shotgun in the back seat....
