are you sure about the crappy pitch? are you really sure? guess you are stuck in the old days, look around you cck, bishan, jalan besar, jurong east jurong west all had good pitch. if you look at jurong west stadium, it can be as close to making a 10k 20k plus stadium but singapore knows that we dont watch local league so they made it a 4k seater.
and then if you look at your favourite foreign leagues of either england, italy, or what not, when they have a heavy snow, issint it the same? they playing the pitch with snow.
the difference is abit far but if you look at this way, our stadiums are not equipped with undersoil heating which can allow the waterlogged areas of the pitch to evaporate.
The question is, where are the millions? Who did they pay? How much does it cost to revamp the pitch, and why are player salaries still low enough to discourage people from playing football full-time?
I'm not saying we should have European salary scales, please, no, but something that makes it worth the risk would be very much appreciated.
you think revamp pitch 100k ar? you think renovating 200k ar? harlow, i got work with my friend's dad who owns a flooring company and just flooring the building can cost up to a 500k worth of materials and manpower.
salary issues? full time footballers earns 3k to 10k, avg of 5k per person per team of 22 players, thats is more 100k. whats more , they are given study grants to pursue diploma and degrees. tell me, 3k to 10k not enough?
Another question is, if all the clubs are getting the millions as you say they are, they are spending it on club facilities, players, whatever.
No one but the clubs knows how the money is spent - and if they are getting this money, and spending it wisely, there doesn't seem to be any apparent benefit.
Stadiums look the same, attendances look the same, teams play pretty much the same. Squads were too thin for the fixture list last season.
Where are you getting your salary figures, by the way?
clubs might get or not get millions, s.league clubs must have at least 1.2 million sing dollars to start, more established names might have more than 1.2 million,
and that 1.2 million is thanks to chairman money, sponsors and etc. and that money is used to pay staff, players, running cost of the stadium, facilties. this 1.2 million might not even be enough.
dont even talk about attendance and stadium, its pretty much obvious.
and i get my salary figures from kallangroar and newspapers.
and fyi, SAFFC has a former swedish international in their line-up, Geylang has a top scorer in slovak 2nd division.that is the amount of quality of foreigners for the new season.
and you tell me how the hell can they fork out that much? obviously millions has been injected to all 12 clubs accordingly.
Well, how much do the youth earn? For the established players, those who already made up their mind to start playing a long time ago, regardless of benefits, they may have a $5K salary, but what happens if their career ends out of the blue? To be fair, I didn't do research at all, a lot of the comments are gut feeling. Thanks for filling me in. But which clubs are paying their players how much? And apart from the trophy winners with prize money on top of sponsorships, who else have big signings?
youths dont earn that much till their potential is recognized, just like wayne rooney, he was earning 80 pounds a week if im not wrong as a youth.
like i said again, football in singapore is not totally about playing football, education is as important, players whose career eventually ends out, will play for either NFL side, coaches and during that span of playing football they are endorse to go to school. mainly NYP.
look at this way, we singaporeans still have football and local pride in us,
but no matter what, players who don NT colours have earned it, some dont IMO, but when they go out there and represent us, we must be there.
all this info i got is just clearly reading newspapers not NEWPAPER.
tell you what, head down to cck stadium jan 7 and watch the match between saffc and AIK stockholm. maybe you might reconsider looking down on the current state of football.
The national team is now make up of some many foreigners being given pink IC. Even if they are winning, I will look down on them. But now that they cannot even win, I dun want to even look at them.
oh and about crappy players, no disrespect to olden golden players, the current crop actually made it to asian champions league, asian cup final qualification round, world cup 3rd final qualification.
standard have improved but not to the standard of gloryhunters of singaporeans who clearly has been brainwashed with top quality EPLians. we are now no longer bitches of malaysia cup, but we are a force not to be underestimated in asia, even hidetoshi nakata said so when he played against us.
also, i believe, our foreigners are good, daniel bennett, wilkinson, duric, jia yi, fahrudin, but if you look at this way, our national side way of playing football might not bring the best out of them or compliment the style, and if you look at the way the play at club side, you'll be shocked.
@ctstalin Because last time people all dun care fame . They care about Singapore wins . They played as a team , Win as a team . Today all care fame , who get goal . Waaahhh famous . Bullshit
"Sundram gonna razzle dazzle you..." Superb goal. I wonder if anyone do have the FAS Song "Dream Team" They played it many time on TV before the final game was telecast...
Malaysia cup is back!
Then no one can beat singapore.
Not even pahang or johor.

Though we inject lesser money into football last time, we had a good pitch and good players.
Now, we put in dunno how many millions and we get a crappy pitch and loads of crappy players who produce crappy results.

no, i'm not stuck in the old days....
sure...the stadiums u mentioned have decent pitches, but look at where our national team played our many 'last games'
i'm sure the pitch at the national stadium can be much much better.... teams go there to play football... not mud-slinging (literally)

it is waterlogged cause of our monsoon season.

i dont know exactly how much this foreigners are paid, cause singapore is not like england where they just publically expose their earnings.
but top quality foreigners wages might reach 5 digits.
big signings include nicklas sandberg, nelson san martin, even balestier paul cunningham who is top 5 of the foreign trials conducted by FAS.

when sg imports foreigners to play in the team, i don't think it is wrong for us to expect more out of the team...
of course we are not the only country that has non natives playing, but do name me a national team with half the first XI foreigners
i think the current u23 are not bad during the recent SEA games... most importantly, i dont recall seeing any FTs inside (maybe i'm wrong)
we may be ok in SEA, but i don't think the mere mention of sg will send chills down other asian sides
ctstalin 2 years ago
i said force not to be underestimated, yes the mere mention of sg might not send chills, but other asian sides are aware of our capabilites.
if you look at wikipedia, we do not have the most foreigners in at national squad, look at bahrain.
and hey, even vietnam is slowly having foreign imports coming in. one example, rogerinho.
