the invis watch is the best of all sence there are no draw backs. 11 seconds of cloak time (from what i heard). the CaD is not that good. being invisable for the entire match does not win a game. the invis watch kinda forces you to do or die and you can get cloak from ammo boxes. cant recharge your cloak from ammo boxes with the cloak and dagger. i have seen some good spies use the cloak and dagger in effective ways. oh and the gead ringer is good. invis--->deadringer---> cloak and dagger

@Nazo887 Listen to the video. Look for the back person in the group. Try and kill isolated stragglers. Most importantly, use teamwork. The YER shines against the distracted, because there's nothing to make looking back reasonable. If you can convince someone to distract an enemy or two, even if it's suicidal for them normally, you should be able to get the first backstab. It's not all that hard.

I don't play spy much, but I did an experiment where every game I played I would disguise myself as a sniper, go to the enemy base, and pretend to be on their side by going to the high places to look as if I were trying to snipe for them. They almost always fell for it. Sure there may be that one pyro who spychecks no matter how innocent you look, but manipulation and insightful thinking is always a key role when playing the spy.
My favourite tactic as a spy, disguise yourself as an enemy sniper and pretend to be aiming at the enemy team and stand in a corner or something near an enemy spawn... when they walk past you, stab them in the back the press "B" to go back into your disguise but find somewhere else to stand ;) NEVER look at an enemy directly while in a disguise.

kamen is right, act like a teammate. if you are spy checked, act like you didnt get him (unless its a pyro. hard to fake that). if you dont run away from being hit, then they think it didnt hurt you and you are on their side. dont strafe around someone if they are going to bump into you. remember, people on the same team sometimes bump into each other too. running through teammates doesnt always work, especially if one is crouching (hint hint).
For people who are whining about playing spy these days due to constant paranoia and spy checking, here's something really important. Number 1, disguises don't mean they don't see you, act like the team and never look directly at the target or rush towards them. It took me a long time before I actually mastered knowing the distance when an enemy can hear your cloak. Doing that can make you the perfect ninja spy
the thing with spies is that they dont use thier revolver, or if u have the polycount one u have to use it if theres no kits around to refill ur cloak
i just HATE the absolutley shite hitboxes for the backstabs. its like valve went overboard with trying to get rid of cheap shots, but left in facestabs. a double fail. there have been times im literally pressed against an enemy, i hit stab, and either:
A. nothing happens. i die
or
B. it just slashes, doing minimal damage. i die.
VERY VERY VERY rarely will i actually get a fair backstab that is intentional... valve needs to fix this....
if any enemy has seen your disguise its great to switch to a different disguise right after so when they say "medic spy" or such, it will be too late.
I usually switch disguises after a while, because people get suspicious about that person more... and always make sure you a disguised as the same class as the person you're disguised as.
I find disguising as teammates extremely helpful. By disguising as one of your own, you are a phantom threat (literally) to the enemy. Example, if you disguise as a friendly Pyro and charge their base, chances are the Spies and Snipers will go running quick. Thats when you cloak and stab away.

In these days, nobody trust nobody, everyone shoots everyone, so you have to disguise, cloak and hide somewhere behind the enemy lines, and then when someone runs out, you follow them, so that if they notice your following them they won't bother because they are in a hurry.
I prefer the ambassador and teh dead ringer because i can sometimes critshot enemies far away, funny too cuz i do better than some snipers just with the ambassador, and i can always pull out the dead ringer in time to save myself.
It depends on your playstyle. Valve created the different watches and revolvers for different playstyles. There is no "best set", it depends on how much use you can make of the mechanic of a watch.
While I appreciate how your tactics work, there are some things you still need to improve on. Disguising as a Scout, for example,Is stupid. as you are extremly obvious to anyone who sees you. And although its good to not be greedy about kills, there are several missed opportunities.
The enemy spy at the start is an idiot. You should never run around disguised as an enemy around your own base. Easy to spot from a mile away. Instead when you are around your own base either cloak and get behind enemy lines or disguise as one of your own to give the impression of a lot of enemies. Then cloak and get behind enemy lines disguised as one of them.
Chaos is also good for a spy as it offers a distraction. Distracted players do not spy check unless the bump into you.

Good ole quickstabs..use to be a god spy when they were around, I could take down a heavy+medic in 1 second, thats all I needed before they nerfed the instant cloak.
I don't know if tf2 players were less paranoid when it comes to spies last February, but If I ever decloaked near an enemy when hes walking out of spawn, 75% of players would have heard me decloak, and turn around to pwn me.
I can say it does work, 25% don't turn around, but the 75% will get you. Decloaking close to them like that is very risky now ay days, try it if you don't believe me. Also, do you use the cloak and dagger, or DR now? Or do you still use the deault watch?

Well sometimes a lucky game glitch backstab, but otherwise, you can't persume, that every1 who get like 10 stab streak are just lucky! And btw wussupwithat, what's your best streak? Mine 20p., 7stabs, 1 destruction and 5 revolver kills. You also like blowing up really eazy stabs like 0:59. And 6:25, whatta eazy leap stab. Good ole quickstabs..use to be a god spy when they were around, I could take down a heavy+medic in 1 second, thats all I needed before they nerfed the instant cloak.

I don't know if tf2 players were less paranoid when it comes to spies last February, but If I ever decloaked near an enemy when hes walking out of spawn, 75% of players would have heard me decloak, and turn around to pwn me.
I can say it does work, 25% don't turn around, but the 75% will get you. Decloaking close to them like that is very risky now ay days, try it if you don't believe me. Also, do you use the cloak and dagger, or DR now? Or do you still use the deault watch?

I find the DR and the ordinary watch to still be reliable. If someone spots you with the cloak and dagger you're pretty much screwed.

Anyone is it worth getting the Orange box for just this game? i have the PS3 online but when i had the Xbox 360 i wasnt so all i could play was Half Life 2 and Portal.

I'm really good at plending in and staying out of sight but my main problem is knowing the right moment to strike. Sometimes I find myself taking to long trying to set up a kill. Any advice?

@Soyawannabeamasta dude, there's no such thing as luck, when you play as spy, it's pure skill! Well sometimes a lucky game glitch backstab, but otherwise, you can't persume, that every1 who get like 10 stab streak are just lucky! And btw wussupwithat, what's your best streak? Mine 20p., 7stabs, 1 destruction and 5 revolver kills. You also like blowing up really eazy stabs like 0:59. And 6:25, whatta eazy leap stab. Ain't seen part 2 yet, but hope that it's better than this 1...

@patepoju by the same token of what you just said, bad luck DOES play into things. sometimes you just round the corner as a pair of demomen or soldiers are lobbing their explosives in your direction and you get nailed.

Very nice, but i olny have 1 Q, since ur a spy and hte olny wep u have is like pistol and knife,when u disguse ur self as some1 els (enemy team besides spy) dont they see ur wepon as a pistol or knife instead of the regular wepon they have?, example, u disguse ur self as a pyro do they see u have a flame thrower or a knife/pistol?

@sprayern33b They see you as a pyro with his flamethrower but when you reload your pistol it looks like the pyro is reloading his flamethrower or whatever weapon the character you are disguised as has.
