I actually asked him during one of his Q&A sessions during the Birmingham gig why he changed the lyric. He said that it was because it was kinda gross and that he wasn't comfortable making "dick jokes" in the songs anymore. I can't blame him, honestly. But yeah, just putting it out there from the mouth of the man himself.
Wow, these (camera) cuts are so distracting and unnecessary. Maybe I'm just used to La Blogotheque and Yours Truly. Good to see Bazan back on stage, though.
@catesong huh... takes some of the grit out of it. Though "bubble gum" does have a commercial/corporate/consumer culture feel to it that nicely preserves the overall gist of the song.
@bittabuffalo I agree complete, I also feel like "corporate cum" fit in with all of the sexual imagery that was so prevalent in Control, but feels more out of place when played by itself.
@mp0ppe omg, I totally heard that lyric change at Brooklyn Bowl the other night and have been trying SO HARD to get someone to confirm it!! This is my proof! None of my friends caught it... but then again, they didn't know the original lyrics.
I saw Pedro the Lion at the University Theatre in 2001. Later saw them at Off the Ramp in 2003. Then later at the Ballard record store in 2004.

I think "Bubble Gum" is an appropriate euphemism for the original lyric. David has a precocious 4 year old, so I don't blame him.

@mp0ppe Heh... guess this is the radio edit.

@bittabuffalo oh no, that is no radio edit. Heard him sing this at Brooklyn Bowl last Friday night. That is no PG venue.

@mp0ppe still love the song either way, but interesting nonetheless!
