I don't know. To me, the comedy is on the social level, in the conversation and communication between 2 people. The British politeness is never stupid or bizarre like in this skit, and seeing it like this really IS the joke to me.

You're right though, if you look at it in black and white, it's a lame joke. But comedy should never be seen in black and white. It lacks logic, and that's why it's fun.
