Raw Power the song.......there's a version of it with the band singing a chourus where they go oooohhh raw power'......it gives such a another image of the band in your head...like they're a "gang".... i think that level is missing from the record....who the fuck they are..its not established auraly (sp) .......with just that little bit of fleshing out (the chorus) you can see them besides a Drag Racing track.....love to James Williamson
Los Stooges estarán girando en la Costa Oeste sin su baterista original (lean el informe en nuestro sitio en español), pero igual son legendarios… y siguen estando encabezados por Iggy, por supuesto!
naah i was wrong i meant another documentation... it used to be on youtube.. its maybe still there... it had 6 parts and you see iggy sometimes wearing a tanktop.
Brilliant! Best I've seen in a while. Iggy would be way cooler if he died young.........but that's just me. No I'm kidding, glad he's alive he's an inspiration, someone who went to the edge of the abyss and survived it. Love you Iggy!
@sheena742: They're definitely store bought. There are a couple vids from the 80s that show his teeth and they look almost rotten. Glad he decided to start taking better care of himself -- the world needs *real* rockers!
I've seen thousands of live acts. Iggy is the best. Some artists need a canvas, others music. Iggy's canvas is the stage. He is the Picasso of live performance.
This needs to be a full length movie. I've always liked this band but thought Iggy was a kind of show off poster boy... no, the dude is totally smart, with it and right to the point.
this is a good document, but wear is all the old footage from the 60s and 70s where iggy is doing all this crazy stuff on stage, thats what i want, and i dont want it cut down, or shortened, the full length thing
Agreed... Mike Watt deserves a HUGE round of applause for his contribution. Also, what about Dave Alexander? the original Stooges Bassist. We all have heard about his getting "fired" from the band, but what about his HUGE contribution on BASS HEAVY songs like "Down on the Street" I don't think Dave ever received the credit he deserved!
your right dave needs more credit, to there defense though he was a burn out. kinda a sad guy you know. he didnt really wanna play rock that much he just wanted to stay home watch tv and do drugs. i felt really bad when i found out he died in 1975
bass players are so under appreciated. There have been alot of them that make such great music, Paul McCartney, Steve Harris, Geezer Butler, Cliff Burton, the list can go on and on. I agree. RIP Dave Alexander, and cheers to Mike Watt, a cool cat.
i like the way mike watt is treated like invisible man........not even given credit on the cd for playing bass.....the original band -- "with mike watt'......c'mon give the man credit.
The above is a quote from 'Open up and bleed' by Paul Trynka, a brilliant Iggy Pop Biography made from interviews with Iggy and hundreds of the characters who made it through the story alive. An insane read it. How Iggy has come through all that abuse in seemingly good physical and mental state, god only knows. Maybe he is the second coming and he's out to have a laugh this time.
Kurt Cobain confided in his journal that Raw power was his all time favourite album. Bands like Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The White Stripes openly acknowledge the inspiration they got from listening to the Stooges audio assault.
"..and as Black Francis of Pixies, those vital precursers of grunge, puts it: 'I wanted to find the most true, pure rock and roll available from this time period of, say 1968 to 1977, and Iggy is it.'
Most Punk, Metal, Grunge and Indie bands can trace the roots of their music back to the Stooges, which makes them legends in my book. No other guitar band can lay claim to an influence as large as theirs.
Not hugely appreciated by the record buying public in the early years, it has taken the emergence of the genres they virtually created, and hence the praise of the bands they influenced, for Iggy and The Stooges to get the credit they deserve.
The best 8:48 Stooges footage. There´ s ALL you need. I think if you send that to Mars...and far away, even the aliens understand the power of the Stooges....
of all the music in my ipod all i ever play is every fuckin stooges/iggy pop album and a little of velvet underground every now and then. i can't explain it, man. iggy is a fuckin god..this guy makes me wet everytime i hear his his voice
WOW,, thats just brilliant ,Ron staked out his territory and mined it for all it was worth ,you only get one stooges in your lifetime ,where are the geniuses that could ever replace Ron, i cant see em on the horizon.
I completely agree, Im a guitar player and Asheton was immediately added to my top 10 favorite guitarists upon my first audio introductions to the Stooges. It was Funhouse. I know some say he really couldnt play wel in the begining, but hell, it was different and passionate. I was very saddened to learn of his death.
I completely agree with both of you, but at the same time we have to bring back real rock and roll. This is real rock. Ill bring it back, we need a musical revolution, music sucks now. Lets go back in time.
Iggy Pop is now a spokesperson for Miami city. That's good for Miami He will sure make the 'senior citizens' in Florida feel younger - maybe lose weight.
And did you ever think HOW good a name IGGY POP is. And he is not a pop singer! Punk. Is the the American punk, par excellence?
I wanna look like Iggy Pop. What is his fitness program like? Does he do weigths and cardio. And how about his diet? I think IP is vegetarian.
true that..a combo of narcotics and jumping around to rock music i recomend it..ive never looked so good and guess what im invincible...so fuck off...
hey bkk66 iggy got the name pop by looking like a local celeb in ann arbor call pop, and his diet was beer and heavy drugs alota sex and what not and he ate alota meat in fact his diet was mainly meat. you should look up the book open up and bleed gives alota info p.s glad to meet another fan

Great legends with a great legacy! shall i bring your slippers Sir Pop?
thats a real nice white smile that ig is rocking. am i wrong to smell just a wee bit of bullshit? before i get hated on...allow that i am from metro detroit and have spent much time in ann arbor. ig is just another sold out jerk wanting to make some money off of his youth. he doesnt give a crap about the stooges. wake up folks. now demonize me for saying what is....he is just another washed up never was just like joe strummer
what's wrong with that? It's called capitalism you socialist prick! Wahh, wahh, go whine in your pissed stained ghetto of a dwelling and continue to have the "integrity" which you claim the real rockers have - BS! Leaving a LEGACy behind is what life is all about, loser! Joe Strummer is one of the most important icons of music history. Go Ig, cash in (he's even lucky to be able to).
it's not about income distribution, it's about honesty, ig seems like he's bullshitting, when those of us who dig the old stooges are keen on not being bullshitted.
honestly, who isn't full of shit at this age?? Y'know, The stooges, the MC5 w/ Wayne Kramer and Sinclair back in the late 60's were Detroit's punk-pioneers, but also they were financial failures. Record companies invested in both bands hugely, but they failed due to plitics and personal problems. What's great about Ig is that his image has stayed the same, his hair, his stage act, his dancing, etc. He still rocks-out today. Recommended reading, "please kill me".
I agree with you. Of course the reunion and the record "The Weakness" was only money affair, apart from that Iggy always let the Asheton bros. as some ridiculous and stupid musicians....There´were no "brotherhood feeling" there...
the new cd would've been good if the drums were mixed lower, had reverb taken off them and someone decided to mix mike watts bass up and bother eq'ing it......and maybe iggy needed to scream a bit more, get less intellectual .....otherwise it's fine.
@jun7per erm... im just an ignorant english guy but wasn't the mid-sixties the beginning of punk? All those groovy mid-sixties trashy bands inspired by the beatles /stones n god knows what else? Like the 13th floor elevators, the Seeds and so many more that I used to listen to in the late 70's on 'Nuggets' compilations? Check it out, that's what we all thought of as the first punk wave... 60's american trash guitar bands coming out of nowhere.. loved it all!
The one thing making Iggy amazing is that he is genuinely humble without remorse for humility. Iggy talks for real and we're in a world where that's just not happening. Iggy talks BS he talks with real personal sh*t. And he's been doing it for almost 50 years. America talks BS, and it's all about avoiding reality.
He might awe us because of how insane he is when he plays, but anyone who's ever done a gig knows that it's the one time and place where you rip off self-control and go streaking with nothing but your heart, dreams, ideas and instincts on -regardless of your uniform. Keep it going, I hope to shake your hand someday.
"there are certain bridges made between the sound of the group and the commonality of current consciousness" fuck u iggy i'll fuck u dead hahahaha. another year wit nuthin ta do
The 'beginning' song is 'I Got A Right 'and I expect you know the others.I'd give you more info, but I have to say (again)Jesus Loves The Stooges,But GOD worships them.
this is the first punk band ever i had a raw power shirt on and this kid said the stooges look gay cus he had no shirt on and he liked bands like fallout boy and i told him there would be no fallout boy if it wasent for iggy and the stooges!
hell yeah im 15 and ive been listining to the stooges for years i really dont like all this new music that is out and im sorta wierd so i stick out like i sore thumb at school
When i first saw them in 1970, I did'nt grt it. I do now.

it's not about income distribution, it's about honesty, ig seems like he's bullshitting, when those of us who dig the old stooges are keen on not being bullshitted.

honestly, who isn't full of shit at this age?? Y'know, The stooges, the MC5 w/ Wayne Kramer and Sinclair back in the late 60's were Detroit's punk-pioneers, but also they were financial failures. Record companies invested in both bands hugely, but they failed due to plitics and personal problems. What's great about Ig is that his image has stayed the same, his hair, his stage act, his dancing, etc. He still rocks-out today. Recommended reading, "please kill me".

"Please Kill Me" is a wonderful book. (The MC5 are still one of my top bands, though)

Iggy made it in England.

Iggy is a product of the USA.
Hes the alter ego of rockin roll.
Punk began in 1970 way before it began in England
and it was Iggy

Although that's a bit OTT, I do think Iggy gets too much of the spotlight - Asheton was a master.
