I hope the third movie will be called: The Caped Crusader (TCC). And that Batman's identity will be exposed. And that the two main villains will be Roman Sionis and Edward Nashton Nygma. Oh! And that Batman will get a new flying machine.
The Dark Knight was as about as artistic as a comic book movie can get. In fact, Dark Knight was as about as artistic as a movie can get. If you didn't like the Dark Knight, you must only be interested in pretentious esoteric arthouse crap with endless tedious dialogue and meandering nonplots. The Dark Knight was superb in every aspect of film-making. 1. Story was consistently gripping. 2. Acting was excellent across the board. 3. Score was epic. 4. Direction and editing were tight. So stuff it.
Just because it is a 'comic book' film doesnt make it any less impressive or relevant. The Dark Knight is much better than alot of the films they had that year; Frost/Nixon, Benjamin Button. To disregard it as only a comic book movie is snobbery. You may have gone to a film school but film school cannot tell you how a movie makes someone feel or believe;, only how it was made and how well it was made.
I promise you--in the history of cinema, this will go down as just another summer blockbuster comic book film....better than most, absolutlely, but nothing near great...not in World Cinema, not even in American Cinema.
And as everyone I know (many in show business) agrees,
Heath (bless his soul) was only awarded because of his untimely death....he did it very well, but it is still just a comic book character, folks.
But with all due respect, I studied Film at University and have travelled all over the world--trust me, "Dark Knight" is NOT a great film in any wider sense than American Blockbuster Cinema...which is a very narrow, uninspiring category!
Frankly, when I read your post, the message I got from it was "You're entitled to your opinion, but you're wrong and I'm right, because I'm better than you."
You may have more worldly experience than watchinginaz, but that hardly makes your opinion any more valid than his. Time will tell which of you was close to the truth. As for your comment about Heath Ledger only being awarded Best Actor because of his death, well, I actually wish we DID know if this was true. He died far too soon.
Not trying to be a troll, but what would you consider to be a great film? Ihonestly can say that the Dark Knight is the only true MASTERPIECE I have ever seen, and I have not studied film in college, but did at high school. Just curious.
@eldiran2 Kind of an arrogant response, but please, I want to know, what do YOU consider a masterpiece? And I don't know if this is your reasoning, but I think that it's bullshit that this film isn't taken that seriously by some people just because it's a "comic book" adaptation. No Country For Old Men was adapted from a book, and that won best picture. I honestly believe this should have beat Slumdog Millionaire. The pacing in that film is just AWFUL and the performances are forgettable.
@NothingSpecialMusic1 Strongly agree with you. I don't know what people were raving about the slumdog millionaire. It's just a mediocre movie. Let's just see. TDK will definitely stand the test of time and will be considered one of the greatest films ever made. While Slumdog will be forgotten.
@eldiran2 Sorry, ran out of space. And I'm not exactly sure what you meant about the "masterpiece" thing, but you disagree tha this is Nolan's best work? The Prestige and even Memento are great films, but this is s much better. Although Inception is looking pretty good...
I like the Dark Knight the best because, its so realistic. Its not people shooting webs while forming the horns of rock, or talking to dolphins or anything (Don't get me wrong, I LOVE spiderman. :P) But its crime that could be believable at this age (Yes I know Batman is wayy too strong, and has gadgets that are unbelievable, but its not too fake, just a lil' bit)
It's interesting because when I cast my mind back to Spider-Man 2 I remember the hype surrounding that film, and I felt the same way you did about this - good, solid, efficient film, but let's not get carried away with ourselves - yet at the time the consensus was S2 was superlative, and I've still not been convinced of that.
Now I do have reservations about TDK, but in general I think we're talking about a different league of filmmaking altogether, played at a very high level of intelligence.
im not a batman fan, meaning i dont dislike batman but havent really gotten into it but even i say this movie was AWESOME. To bad most action/drama movies cant be half as good as this movie was!
Before this movie, i thought iron man was the best superhero movie of the new millenium. But when this movie came out, thats it, the greatest superhero movie of all time.
This movie was marvelous, people of all ages could watch it and fall in love with it. I know some 12 year olds, 20 year olds, 37 year olds who LOVE the movie. I thought I would hate this action-packed movie, but I love it, and I've seen it about 6 times.
True. Even I wasnt expecting Heaths rattling performace as the Joker. I still remember the shake I got in my seat when he got into his "Story" about his wife, and when the camera was spinning around, that scene was really capturing his insanity. And also when he kid-napped the Cop and dressed him up as Batman, that was so disturbing and twisted. I was quite litterally blown away by Heath alone, aside from the very strong cast and script, and dialogue that was as subtle as it was explosive.
It's a rare occasion when practically everyone loves the same story, there's no shame on the bandwagon this time. I can't wait to see more of Nolan's work.
That's very true. Some movies become a divided house of like and dislike(Cloverfield), it's really rare when most people can agree and be on the same page. Let's just hope the next Batman can do this film justice without Joker or Ledger as he is already sorely missed, and his performace simply cannot be outdone. Im fairly sure most people would agree that his performance alone was so genuine, who else could reach that caliber?
While you are entitled to your opinion, Dark Knight was miles better than the first film. I think the problem with the first film, while it was a major improvement over the Joel Shumocker fuck ups, it got lost in it's own story trying to make it so believable. It's like the story was trying to convince it'self. Maybe you get where im coming from. But the direction and style was more thought out in Dark Knight, Begins felt like it kept trying to find its style. But Begins is a great movie though.
What do you mean insert humor into it - why do we need to laugh all the time? (If we had been serious about some of this generation's problems ten years ago, then maybe we wouldn't be in such a need to laugh right now.)
r u kidding me? i mean they are two different kinds of jokers they both are very well done as the role but jcks joker is more funny and silly when health's is more dark and sadistic and evil. and the penicl thing was way funnier but they are both great versions of the villian.
so did i and i didnt hear the next line becuase everyone was laughing. what day did u see it after it came out cuz i saw it on the saturday after it came out and everyone laughed.
yeah great comparison jackass...comparing Heath Ledger to those other guys is an insult of epic proportions. He's always been a terrific actor. And his performance in Dark Knight is oscar worthy...and far better than Jack's. Jack will even tell u....
Come back to reality. Critics, journalists, people in the film world and general film fans all loved it, it's one of the most acclaimed films of all time. You thinking it sucks doesn't mean much. Even the AFI is adding it to their list of best films of the decade.
I agree with u StaticJak!!!!!!!! The movie is a classic sequel, just like "Godfather 2" & classic crime drama "Heat".... Christian Bale is the perfect choice being Batman/Bruce Wayne since the beginning of the first movie, "Batamn Begins." I was like, Sorry Tim Burton & Jack Nichlson, but Heath took the joker a huge level of JOKERS!!! He raised the bars as funny & psycho...Brilliant Christopher Nolan & Heath Leadger (R.I.P)!!!
I would guess 121595 is his date of birth...in american format. Definitely missing out. Great film, heath's anarchic performance is amazing and he is so much like T-bag outta Prison Break, don't know if anyone else thought that.
How can you rate a movie properly. You can't even spell "arguably" correctly. Its the best batman movie ever, it takes an adult mind to appreciate it more

@NothingSpecialMusic1 Sorry, but if you actually consider Dark Knight "a masterpiece", there's not a whole lot to really discuss about Film.

first it went on for a little bit to long
then the ending wat was that all about wit the two boats
and the scarecrow is in it for like two seconds wat happens to him u never find out
i think spiderman 2 as a comic adaptaion is better than this
note as a comic book adaptation
