The white #73 was johnny beauchamp my great uncle,and to 1||||||||1 your right about not being talked about because he plays a big part in nascar history and of coarse they do not respond to my emails.He was plenty famous and if that wreck didnt happen he would of been one of many champions of nascar.
After that crash Lee Petty raced about 6 more times but at martinsville he got out of his car and said "I'm not having fun anymore" and that was the end of his racing career.
More on the crash as reported by the Daytona Beach Morning Journal:
AB Kelly, spectator, was injured as Lee's car turned over on his hand while he was trying to help him out.
The crash description which I summed up:
Banjo Matthews swerved, hit Joe Weatherly and spun out, but he was alright. You can see his car at 0:57. Lee swerved to avoid Jim Pardue in #54 and Beachamp hit him and they both went through the rail. They flew 350 feet and landed in a car park.
I was in the infield that day and will always remember it. We could see the wrecked cars on the way out.

I knew about Beauchamp and Lee's crash, but I didn't know Richard went over the wall in the same race.

@MrPingPongSr
Richard went over the wall in the first race...Lee went over in the second. I'd never seen footage of Richard going over.

Lee would live for a good 39 years until 2000 when he died of a stomach aneurysm.
