Sometimes I think Teena just tries harder than she has to. When she calms down, it's beautiful! Those really pitchy high notes that she's been doing for the past several years annoys me. I have footage, but I can't even watch because of those HIGH notes. My original post wasn't so much about vocals. Out of the people I named, Teena has the most feeling. That's why people love her. She puts her all in everything she sings. If you haven't seen her live then don't bash her. I've seen them all but Teena is the one that sticks out the most. That person that said if you put Mary J., Anita, Chaka, in a room and tell them to write a song, Teena would write books worth of them while the others wouldn't know where to start.
Only reason why people bash Teena is because of her skin color. If Teena Marie's skin was black(I said skin because we all know she's black), people would definitely put her on a pedistle like Chaka or Anita. Anita and Mary are good singers, but they can't touch Teena musically and they know it. What I mean by musically, Teena has written, produced and play her own instruments on her albums going all the way back to a time when a woman having creative control was never heard of.
Y'all gotta realise something Teena is the only singer in her class that still has her voice. She still sound the way she has sounded since the 70's. Picture Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, Evelyn King, Teena sounds the best. She sings with passion and that's why she still get's standing ovations. She sang it alot calmer and better than she did on BET. Unlike Celine DIon or Taylor Dayne, Teena is a real soul sista and was one before it was even popular. Go Teena!

And another thing...didn't she sing this same song and wear the same outfit for another TV event? why? why? why? I need to be Teena's stylist, cause repeat outfits for a celebrity performing on TELEVISION makes no sense what-so-ever!! And don't get me started on the hair!! She's a classy Lady, so she needs a classy doo. She'd look fabulous with darker hair. She looked beautiful on the 2005 BET awards...just beautiful. That outfit suited her just right!! Her hair needed 2 be pulled up, tho

Sometimes I think Teena just tries harder than she has to. When she calms down, it's beautiful! Those really pitchy high notes that she's been doing for the past several years annoys me. I have footage, but I can't even watch because of those HIGH notes. Somebody called her the "SCREAM QUEEN" and Tee-fans jumped all over him/her without considering the fact that it wasn't bashing, but the TRUTH. How do you constantly LIE to someone in their face, but have the nerve to say you LOVE him/her?

Co-sign. Teena was always in a class of her own (that class being timelessly soulful), but her last two albums made me cringe.

My original post wasn't so much about vocals. Out of the people I named, Teena has the most feeling. That's why people love her. She puts her all in everything she sings. If you haven't seen her live then don't bash her. I've seen them all but Teena is the one that sticks out the most. That person that said if you put Mary J., Anita, Chaka, in a room and tell them to write a song, Teena would write books worth of them while the others wouldn't know where to start.

Only reason why people bash Teena is because of her skin color. If Teena Marie's skin was black(I said skin because we all know she's black), people would definitely put her on a pedistle like Chaka or Anita. Anita and Mary are good singers, but they can't touch Teena musically and they know it. What I mean by musically, Teena has written, produced and play her own instruments on her albums going all the way back to a time when a woman having creative control was never heard of.

Y'all gotta realise something Teena is the only singer in her class that still has her voice. She still sound the way she has sounded since the 70's. Picture Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, Evelyn King, Teena sounds the best. She sings with passion and that's why she still get's standing ovations. She sang it alot calmer and better than she did on BET. Unlike Celine DIon or Taylor Dayne, Teena is a real soul sista and was one before it was even popular. Go Teena!

This shows that "old shool" can clearly hold their own with the new singers. Lady Tee sannng that song..and she didn't scream either in it. The high notes were beautiful...i felt that so much

Teena was good but Deitrick Haddon was fantastic. Will someone please post his performance of "A change is gonna come." In my opinion he was the best out of all the performers.

I like the way Teena sang this on Bet gospel show dont get me wrong i love me some MS LADY T but I think the piano ruined it she should of just sang it with no music and a part of me felt like she was holding back...ha ha ha but I still love watching this

Teena is great but just like her other performance of this song...its just out of sync to me! the high notes just dont work with the song, almost like it was out of key through out...i cant be the only one who hears this! luv her thoe but just not feeling her version of this!

I do agree with u, KVocalist, but I just keep it to myself because other Teena fans will jump all down ya throat if EVERY LITTLE THING u say about the TEE isn't totally positive. Just cause u tell the truth doesn't mean u love her any less.
