  • Was wondering if u could give me sum pointers on setting my alesis dm5 and triggers up?..

  • Your slave pedal is cracked?

  • thats like 3 inches from the pad haha

  • lol, it seems your a very nervous person. When recording, just breath slowly and try not to get all tense and tweaked out XD RELAX,

    Happy Drumming,

  • hahaha damnn i hate you! so neat

  • How you gain speed? without getting tired, I mean.

  • @azazeldrummer ever heard of just practice mate?

  • Hey mate, what is the pad called that you use for your 808's? And how much did you pay for your Alesis DM5? Thanks alot man.

  • So I have Pearl Eliminators. Can it be done on mine?

  • What kind of case do you use for you axis?

  • Blah to trigger haters. Get with the times if you want to play extreme music. Who gives a crap, and why? Drummer for 15 years here, hitting my physical limits without extra volume boost from triggers, at least for now.

Triggers are cheating as much as any processor/device is for any other instrument. None at all.

  • Man, thanx a lot for taking the time to explain all this stuff, there are not many videos of this new way of playing, i ad to figure all that our for my self, specially all that trigger stuff!!

Anyway, u are comming soon to méxico,if money isn´t a problem for me, i´ll be glad to watch you play live

    peace!

  • hi could you do headshot please on drums im trying to learn that song

  • I wish they would be more videos showing people how to do heel-toe like this. Not actually hitting the pedal with your heel, then toe. That's impossible without long boards.

  • sorry it was your dad my bad

  • i went to get my first double bass pedal and your lead singers dad works there and he told me to look this up haha

  • incredible techique

  • i have size fifteen feet...does size of feet have any matter when trying to do this techniqe

  • @rockinrandy1234 I don't know but your old lady must love you...

  • hi,

i use the #8 KICK / Speedmetal and pitched it down to -3

parameter: gain about 70, decay 20, xtalk 20 noise 40

snare# 63 /iblid same parameters but noise is up to 65

did you put the kick or other triggers into a group ?

manuals says cymbals to "multi" for example

i think it will be right tu use kick = group 1 and snare group 2

because if you play fast blastbeats, the upcomming stroke will abort the rest of the played midi sample to play the new again.

no double or missing triggers ?!?

  • he's in mcmb?

  • hey man would you know if u could still do heel toe even though ur feet like overgrow the board bc i can't do heel toe that well but thn again ive only been drumin for 3 years no lessons what would u suggest? for pedals for monsterous feet like mine?

  • what about if you sue click pads will the triggers still work properly if you stuff the bass drum

  • Great job man! I use the same technique with pearl eliminator!

Really confortable expecially to play solos and other hard pattersn with the hands..

  • shyt, Axis longboards are great for heel toe. but now, DW made some 5000 series pedals without heel plates and extended boards, so now you can do heel toe easily on DW pedals. looks like there will be some competition. ahh, anyways, thanks @BrianH00D for making this video. it really helped.

  • .....uhh.... why spend so much on an expensive bass head, if the tone from it doesnt even matter???

  • do you find the ddrum trigger good?

cus i always been told roland triggers are the best for really fast playing.

    the ddrum cuts out alot

  • is that the Xl or Al version

  • should i buy the axis longboards or the pearl demon thingys, cuz right now i got some shitty tama double bass pedals nd yea so which ones better for deathcore/breakdowns/super fast bass.

  • @Jackash257 Axis longboards are way better! :)

  • best socks ever, thats his secret we all have to go to wall mart and buy those socks

  • best socks ever

  • this has helped me a lot brian, thank you so much man!

  • Whats up dood!!!!! its clay from java jays. i talked to you about busting my bass head because of my beaters!xD we should keep in touch man

  • hey im learning new technique on double bass how long did this take for you to learn :D

  • Comment removed

  • Consider buffing tha axis logo lols

  • wow i didnt knew that axis pedals were ''killer'' pedals ???? harharhashr

  • really come on do any of you plays drums hes doing a goofy ass slide NOT heel toe

  • thanks a lot! helped me a lot, i think your a good teacher haha, and i think you explained it well :)

  • sounds like paradiddles =D

  • I do it with Iron Cobras... basically slamming my heel down on that 'butt' at the bottom of the pedal.

  • in my opinion regular RLRL technique and DW 9002s are the best combination for double bass.

longboards, triggers and (most importantly heel-toe) don't seem very good for technique to me

    guess i'm old fashion lol

  • How much time take it learn Hell toe?....

  • Nice!

  • I like the Michael J. Fox joke. And thanks, this is really informative. I was debating buying a DM 5 and an AXIS pedal.

  • Use to do these, but at slower tempos I didn't like the unevenness of them, they are doubles, I wanted singles. Saw John Longstreth (Origin) play, now I work on using the constant release.

If you slow it down, exaggerate the leg movement you'll just about have the constant release method and you'll go from doubles to singles.

  • if you wanna do heel toe on traditional pedals and not the longboards. it's a different technique, it can be done, but it's harder to do and you dont get to use your heel.

you just follow the motion going down and when you come up slightly you go down with your toes. it does work, but for the extra power, use your heel and the longboards.

  • nice tension, thats how I like mine, tight as you can get em!

  • 808? 5:02 5:03

  • Hey Brian,

This is a very similar technique to what I've been calling "Pressed Doubles"...the only variation I have is I dont emphasize the rolling of the toe, I actually rely on the lifting motion of the heel to provide the toe stroke... but ya...great job and keep up the good work.

    Mike

  • hard to do on my PDPs...

  • is his method only good for axis or trick pedals or can they be used on any standard pedal?

  • i've seen them done on other pedals(DW and Iron Cobra), but it doesn't really work for me on those. I guess it just depends on the person and playing style

  • alright thanks, im looking to upgrade my pedals super soon from my junk ass Gibraltar pedals. Any suggestions?

  • im not brian hood, but i do have a set of the pearl demon drives....great pedals....bit pricey though..

  • @BrianH00D why aren't you in mcmb anymore ?

  • @joshjdrummer my teacher can do that perfectly on my iron cobra and his dw 5000's so i guess its also good for pedals with heel plates.

  • nice video.. but i would like to hear how does those settings sounds like?

  • haha i have those socks lmaoo from walmart. but thanks for the tip man its awesome im deff gonna try it out!

  • trick pedals yessss

  • Are you really that fucking stupid? They have two sides. Nylon plastic and felt. Both have different sounds and bounce and feel. PLEASE die in a fire.

  • @mitchranalli Awesome comment. The last sentence made me lawl.

  • @mitchranalli I don't know anything about drumming but won't the Nylon Plastic hitting the plastic from the bass drum head make it break easier?

  • damn it,i can only go as fast as his slower version!haha i better go get axis

  • i do it like you!

  • I have a cheaper version of iron cobra's (stagg) and size 12 feet (13 in US i think) and i can heel toe fine, admitedly its hard to go super fast, but I can go as fast as he shows and it is do-able on any set of pedals VERY easily, you just need to find the right spot to do it

  • i am sorry but you are very negative about this and i think this might be rel bad but then it is really good i give you props

  • Dude,thanks! I think your a great teacher....

  • i have those fucking socks.

  • hey Bro why arnt you in mcmb anymore

  • @yeppxlive123 i think its between him and the band members.

  • Juss got iron cobras todayy, thx for the adviee (:

  • your variable drive lever is all the way up??

  • I've seen Matt Sorum using the heel on the floor (off the pedal) technique. Superfast. He places the foot at an angle, like a race car driver, and uses the toe tips to control the pedal.

  • was the 808 "rap wave" sample already on the module? or did you import a sample?

  • i think its in it under kick sounds

  • doesnt leche from ABRB use RLRL?

  • This is just me, but I prefer the leftrightleftright technique, simply cause it's cleaner and you're also working out your legs for better stamina and precision speed.

    And it feels more legit.

And the triggers. No offense man, but you might as well be playing an electric drumset.

And I've seen alot of drummers fall into alot crappy habits on elctric drumsets cause they act like triggers.

    But that's just mee.

Good job getting that technique so clean. Props.

  • punkrockpoptart you have no opinon here he is from fucking mcmb and the rightleftrightleft cant go that fast

  • Dude, all I'm saying is the rightleftrightleft is cleaner while the heeltoe is faster but with less precision and power.

I've seen people go about as fast if not faster just going rightleftrightleft.

  • I know exactly what you mean about the bad habits of an electronic kit. lol. I play one at my church and then I play an acoustic at home. It's weird getting used to.

  • Heh, yeah, man. Dude, try triggers and you'll see exactly what I mean about it being almost exactly the same. XD

  • @PunkRockPoptart if you watch the faithless video, he doesn't only use heeltoe. he switches off between that and LRLR

  • sounds sickkk!!!! awesome

  • i mean tension in the springs

  • how should i set the tempo

  • what do you mean by 808???? is that the "booooom" for breakdowns?????

  • do you have a video or blog stating as to why you aren't in mcmb anymore? lol (sorry if you get that asked alot)

    -nicky

  • the band should probably post something, because i get asked that every other day, and from what matt told me, they get asked just about every day on tour. I guess they're waiting until they actually get a new permanent drummer before they announce the member change

  • ah, i seee. thanks :]

    -n

  • Hey, I've been playing drums for about a year now and I have only standard Pearl pedals and I'm trying to figure out whether to get either Axis, Iron Cobra, or DW7000's next but I'm not sure which would be best, could ya help me out? Thnx man (:

  • dude get axis

  • no definitely get the Iron Cobras. Much better for anything that isn't heel toe.

  • it's not too soon for that Fox joke

  • HAHA! Michael J. Fox feet.

    lawl.

    You dog, you.

Wish I had those pedals. about how much did those cost?

  • wayyyyy too much. Like $600

  • wow you have pretty good control.

    thanks for the help

  • wow dude THANKS! ALOT!

  • ive watched almost every heel toe video on youtube... and i could never get it.. then i watched this and i nailed it in a few hours. AMAZING explaination. THANKYOU!!!

  • your amazing man. your heel-toe technique saved my life!

  • this makes me want to be a drummer,

but then I remember my hands and feet don't coordinate well x]

    I'm sticking to guitar!

Hate that you're out of MCMB

I doubt they'll be able to find anyone as good :P

and I do believe that a local band, for me, rest assured from NC recorded with you. AMAZING recording.

  • what heads do you use?

  • I hate dw beaters!!!

  • those are the best socks! they don't sell them any more! :(

  • I thought you had 3 rack toms. D: Btw, you're amazing. Haha. Everytime I try to play Faithless or Circle I want to just kill myself.

  • yup i do! 10,12,and 14 toms. I'll post more video's when i have time:) waaay to busy at my studio right now...

  • sweeet!

But what's going on with MCMB? D:

  • Yeah, did you quit or what?

  • in your faithless cover did you use the dm5 for triggering your set?

  • My buddies Change Today! will be recording with you soon. I also am very interested in you doing my band recording. Can i contact you through myspace regarding recordings?

  • thankx for the tips. i have two axis singles im gonna try out your setup and see how it works for me. once again, i appreciate it man.

  • brian your the man ive never seen a professional drummer in a band thats not dave mathews band put any effort into going in depth to help his fans.i appreciate this and love your style

    be easy

  • ear sex by brian and or bryan

  • nice work man.

it looks like your heel toe technique is more of a ball of the foot - toe technique, but its impressive.

i've been saving for the Axis X-L2 Longboards. right now, my heel toe isnt too great on my double pedal.

  • it's still heel toe...just an evolved version i guess? What kind of pedal you have right now? I can't do heel toe on any other pedal besides axis and trick(and probably pearl demon drive)

  • i have an older version of the gibralter intimidator II.

its old, but doing well in every area except heel-toe.

  • yeeeeeeeeee demon drives haha

  • Invest in a tripod, lol.

  • thank you sooo much for that tip.

    /s

a tripod cant move the camera around for different angle shots...

  • lol, I actually feel cool that Brian Hood responded to me. :)

    Maybe a camera man, then?

  • yes, i do definitely need one of those:) haha

I'm not that legit though...i dont get the full production video like ABR's drummer lol

  • Why? You're better.

    /hushed voice

  • down to earth as shit dude.

but it took a while for matt to get their, and your band will get their, but think of it like this

last time i saw any picture of you

you were running an iron cobra with gibralter rack and like mixed hardware now you got the icon rack and axis pedals,in my eyes your more legit than matt but both of you are my heroes

  • Wow man!, really nice!! seriously.. sound is good and you are really tight and fast with your Heel-toe technique!

  • nice dude.

did you JUST stick this up here?
