@PennyDreadful1 Hell yeah, first band I thought of when I heard this song. Like Skyclad mixed with old Manowar or something. Check out Clan destined if you havnt already =)
Mike Scalzi sounds absolute unique, there is no Bruce Dickinson in his voice, and Helloween???Are you kidding me???There is no other Band in Metal like Slough Feg,every Album is absolutely new and unique, but its always slough feg with the cool hooks and long solo! You cant put them anywhere cause Mike was influenced by musicals,Punk(!!!),Hardcore,Epics(Manilla Road,Brocas Helm,Thin Lizzy) and...up to a point Metal Bands of ourt youth, but the only sing you REALLY can figure out,is Manilla&Thin.
eh i beg to differ, i could hear how someone might think there is a similar sounding to bruce, but only in the true uniqueness, i guess the tell all would be for Slough Feg to cover a maiden song, preferably a vocal strenuous, like Run to the hills or Hallowed
First of all, Dickinson sounds nothing like Scalzi. The riffs are not even similar, for one TLWSF have much more memorable and more folky riffs which draw inspiration from epic metal greats such as Manilla Road and Brocas Helm. Even the atmosphere and the lyrical content of the two bands is vastly different. The "galloping" bass? Bolt Thrower has galloping bass, so do many death metal and even black metal bands.
Like most metal bands Slough Feg was influenced by Iron Maiden a fact they proudly wear on their sleeves. I also hear a huge influence of Helloween, who are themselves influenced by Iron Maiden. Also you hear an influence of "Epic Metal" which was a genre that came out in the early 80's (Mannila Road, Medieval Steel). Great band!

I wish they were still The Lord Weird Slough Feg in its entirety. Either way, they continue to put out the most epic classic metal I've heard lately.
hilariousgas 8 months ago
@hilariousgas I second that. I feel a little of their edge has been taken off with Mr Cobbett going.

Great sound. Reminds me of Psychotic Waltz, not in terms of style, but in uniqueness. Glad to have stumbled upon this band.

It doesn't sound anything like Iron Maiden.

You need to train your ears better.

@HikoSeijuroXIII Perhaps you need to listen to Maiden a bit more.

Nope, I've listened to them extensively ever since the early eighties.

@HikoSeijuroXIII Just for clarification I was talking about the whole album.

Doesn't matter, I was talking about the whole band.

@HikoSeijuroXIII The galopping bass? Bruce sounding a lot like the singer? The riffs?

@HikoSeijuroXIII Listen to the verses in The Evil That Men Do and compare it to this.
The riffs I don't have an example for at the moment, but I will in due time.
The lyrical content is different I'll give you that, but I'm not agreeing on the atmosphere, since Maiden has tons of different ones.
The galloping bass was because Maiden use it the same way that Slough Feg use it.
frididjurhuus 1 year ago
Nothing alike at all. IM has different sound and style.

@HikoSeijuroXIII We obviously have different views on music, so lets just leave it at this.

But they still don't sound anything like them. Not even Helloween sounds anything like Iron Maiden. Get that straight first.
