  • hopegully he can go another church that will tell him to pray and take it th lord to overcome his problems, hes in a trap by the lds that tells him he cant overcome his shortcomings.

  • Awesome

  • Beautiful to see a man honestly repent and with such compassion and honesty. I'm not Mormon, but I am a religious studies student (UNM). Profound speech, sir. You make me want to believe in God. Thank you!

  • I WANT IN ON THE CONVERSATION!!

  • I didn't think LDS Bishops were allowed to have facial hair. Is this a legit Bishop or a media production?

  • @hoosier4life555 I don't know whether this video is legitimate or not but to answer your inquiry. Bishops are allowed to have facial hair. Full time missionaries are to keep clean shaven and students at BYU cannot have facial hair (just part of the dress code).

  • @holidayrap why??,is that christ like??? sounds like a middleman between a person and god telling them what to do....

  • Bishop Kloosterman, THANK YOU! I am a straight ally for my GLBT friends and was so hurt over the mistreatment of these children of God that I left the church over their inviolvement in anti gay legislation. Thank you for using your voice to open hearts and minds. Bless you.

  • bishop are you going to the pedophile conf too? How about the serial rapist? The thief who can't help himself? God loves them too. He loves the LGBT"s too but will not tolerate practicing homosexuality anymore than he tolerates adultery. You seem to be making God, his duly appointed leaders and the church in general to be intolerant . The Church needs to repent? Very dangerous. How is it you are so inspired on this issue but the brethren just "don't get it?" Ever hear of Sonia Johnson?

  • @tsfab4 I don't really know what he was trying to accomplish with this talk, but I don't think he is saying that the Church has to repent.

Hopefully he is thinking about the loss of people and the sadness of sin. Perhaps he is thinking about how mean people can be toward homosexuals.

I don't see anything in this talk that is contrary to the Gospel nor does it seem to encourage sinning.

BUT.. his condemnation of straight members is bigotry and he needs to repent of that.

  • @tsfab4 As an aside, I don't think he will remain in the Church for a long time. But I hope I am wrong.

  • @tsfab4 And his analogy of animals is all wrong. If I were his Stake President, I would definitely have an interview with him to confirm his fitness to me a Bishop.

  • Bishop you are swimming in deep, dangerous doctrinal water.Of course we love our LGBT members. The only message an LDS Bishop should be giving these folks is one of repentance.Trying to "understand" every nuance of homosexuality doesn't help. The brethren have told us there are no males spirits trapped in female bodies and visa-versa.Your "accept yourself, be who you are" tone is very damaging. The temple creation analogy was stupid. Two males lions having sex would end the pride. Repent bishop.

  • My church, the LDS church, does a very poor job dealing with sin, diversity, and inclusion. I'd much prefer a more open church where one is accountable for one's own sins and faith practice.I'd rather let God be the judge rather than the brethren judge each other. I love my church and I love the gospel, but I hate the feeling of being in a church in which certain members have Jesus taken away from them. That is the way I feel, as a politically conservative believing Mormon.

  • Thank you...

  • Go search for my blog 'The Ultimate Loss of Innocence!' Go to Yahoo and it will be the first to come up!

  • Outstanding! Despite not having to deal with the issues these brothers and sisters have to face; Prop8 really shook my faith. We should have known better. After coming to the realization the problem was the pride of the people in the church and not the gospel it'self, I was able to reconcile. Remember the greatest commandment. Search for what sets it apart from other commandments, and why it was taught as such. It will change your life when you get the answer.

  • This man isn't honest or truthful.

  • @BornAgainstMormons

I think he is... but he is puting his guilty on everyone... it is his issue that he judged gay people... It is ignorance to try to make you personal issues include everyone.

  • @BornAgainstMormons You are not honest or truthful.

  • @GohModley I am unable to cry on cue in front of cameras.

  • @BornAgainstMormons You could take Lessons from Henry B. Eyring.

  • @BornAgainstMormons How so?

  • Beautiful!! I'm so proud of you, Bishop Kloosterman! God Bless!

  • @6860zm

LOL... So you can say it... but if someone puts it back in your face it is confusing and they are just looking to polarize people... Really... get out of grandma's basement.

  • June of 2010, I joined the LDS church because two very nice and motivational missionaries came to my door. I knew very well the churchs' stance on gays, lesbians, transgendered people, but I still wanted to join because I knew LDS members are some of the kindest people out there! My ward in Vista, CA let me in with open arms like a family should. I had never been religous before, but this church has so much love for its members and community, so I just felt so compelled to stick with it!

  • I watched this today and cried! Such a good man!

  • Wait... so do the non smokers need to repent and make restitution to the smokers?

All sin is sin. Gay people should not be looked down on... but Gay people should not be giving a bye because they did some good PR on behalf of their desires.

  • Nothing wrong with bro's helping bro's.

  • @6860zm

Seems like you would fit that ignorant neglectful blind dangerous religion stereotype.

  • The bottom line is this. The LDS church is just a man made cult that was cojured up by it's founder Joseph Smith to serve his needs and ambitions.

The next dangerous clown that came along was Brigham Young and he taught some wacko nonsense to gullibles who thought he was called by some creator god.

The fact is he was full of BS. No calling, no nothing and a legacy of abuse of people in the name of god.

Get out and live a cult free life if you are able without LDS cult family shunning.

  • @ElderJoseph

You are a clone... but not dangerous... well maybe to yourself.

  • @Sk8er408 " You are a clone... but not dangerous... well maybe to yourself."

Don't respond to me anymore Brighamite clown.

  • @ElderJoseph

Truth hurts? Did it cut you to the bone?

Too bad i'm not a Mormon... your put downs are elementary and really are not geared toward me... sorry. Come up with something new.

  • The day it becomes commonplace to see a bishop smile like Kloosterman did when he said "queer", for the same reason, is the day I'll consider returning to full activity.

  • @shuckslbj

    ?

  • @shuckslbj as a bishop for years I've heard some whoppers about what it will take to become active again. This one is really good. Don't make excuses brother, come back and find peace.

  • This wonderful outstanding true-blue Latter-day Saint bishop is my hero. :-D

  • Check out mormonstories website for information about the conference

  • Circling the Wagons was a conference we held to support LGBT Mormons.

  • What is circling the wagons?

  • If there is anything in this world more disgusting or more reprehensible than the swill who call themselves 'prophets' of this church, then I've yet to come across it. Their doctrines and views are reminiscent of the dark ages, and the fact that Kevin has said what he has said is testament to his strength of character, and to the so called 'prophets' lack of character ... and lack of integrity ... and lack of humanity ... and lack of any form of modern day intellectual sensibility.

  • @sporran66

    What's with the rant?

  • @Sk8er408 I hate the LDS church and all of their bullshit world views ... not to mention their lies and deceitful behaviour(s)

  • @sporran66

What lies and what deceitful behavior?

I think you need to get over your issues of not everyone accepting you are agreeing with your world view...

  • @hawkeyery, from my understanding, the conference was designed to promote discussion, share stories, and give advice on how members can treat the LGBT community with greater respect. I do not believe there was much advocating for the church to change its doctrine.

  • This is obviously a very heartfelt sermon. Unfortunately, I don't know what the underlying premise is or what specific goals he (or Circling the Wagons) has. Is the goal equality in the sense of the LDS church recognizing gay marriage & lifestyles, or is the goal simply to treat the LGBT community w/ greater respect, love, etc.?

  • ive asked this before and have gotten no response. but is this channel pro-mormon or anti-mormon? It seems silly but I can't really tell. And it seems as if you support fundamentalist mormons as well. I just think you need to clarify because this channel sends a lot of mixed messages and I don't think it can totally be classified as pro-mormon.

  • @clearpathtofollw The channel is directed toward helping people (mostly from within the mormon community) grapple with some of the more thorny issues that many religions (and mormons in particular) face. Basically its an effort to help mormons understand mormons.

  • @clearpathtofollw From what I understand this site is being managed by a semi-active member of the church. I don't think he has any ill motives or intent against the church. If anything he's just making people, in particular fellow members, aware of some of the more taboo topics and some of darker parts of heritage and history. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing by any means, and I think some members of faith need to be more aware of who we were as well as who we are today.

  • @clearpathtofollw This channel is owned by John Dehlin, who also started StayLDS.com. Overall I consider his efforts to be a benefit to our church.

Like Bishop Kloosterman, John is a psychologist. I think this goes a long way in explaining why they feel such empathy towards anyone in despair, why they advocate doing whatever it takes to make the aggrieved feel better about themselves, and why they would never advise a hurting person to question whether their hurt is justified.

  • I believe this man is sincere. It remains to be seen if he is strong enough to hold fast to his new realizations to survive the potential, if not inevitable, inquisition by the Brethren or their priesthood deligates.

  • @Eugene1133 I think this man will be able to stand up whatever challenges come his way. :-)

  • @belledame3, I am so glad to hear this! Thank you. We need men of true courage in the ecclesiastical system who can express themselves so honestly and heartfelt as he did.

  • @Eugene1133 Now you see you're using your code phrases to make anyone who doesn't hold to your view as being intolerant. If you are LDS and think that of the Brethren, then why are you a member? Need to ask that question of yourself. If you're not, then please take your anti-Mormon rhetoric elsewhere.

  • @tsfab4 Born and raised Mormon, brother. Excommunicated twice. Got to really be committed to come back for more. Ever hear of "unrighteous dominion"? If the LDS Church leadership can admit to having been guilty of this behavior, then perhaps it can set an example for other ecclesiastical institutions. It could be a major national and international game changer during the current presidential campaign. I'm counting on it. Stay tuned.
