When you would die at the castle, the airship would move to a different part of the world.

The anchor prevents that from happening

If you use an anchor before going after an airship, but fail to complete the airship in that life, it doesn't move the screen after you lose. It stays on the same spot.

And yet we never saw it, or the Tanooki and Frog suits again, and after Super Mario World we never saw the Koopa Kids again.

That's right up there with letting the Metroid series lay stagnant when it comes to Nintendo's biggest fuck-ups..and at least Nintendo made up for that with Fusion and Prime.

@megagrey It's a bit funny. The Koopa Kids returned a year later after you posted that comment. Then, in 3D Land, the Tanooki suit returned, and the Frog Suit is scheduled to return too. It's almost like Nintendo read that comment and said, "We can fix that."
