People like different kinds of music- get over it.
I've no idea how Wilco fans are 'sheep' though, sheep means following the crowd, and it's not like Wilco are one of the most popular bands in the world?
who cares about what kind of genre you could add Wilco to. To me it means so much more than that take it for what it is. I love Wilco. Thanks Jeff Tweedy!
I think this is the most underrated song Wilco does, I hold it right up there with 'Hummingbird', and 'I Am Trying To Break Your Heart'. Just below 'Jesus Etc'.
And saying Uncle Tupelo is country is very much stretching it; Tupelo wasn't country, there were folk new-timey music. Yeh, I don't see how A Ghost Is Born is anything country, honestly... well, Sky Blue Sky has some nice country-sounding lapsteel, but the actual song where the lapsteel is present goes completely in the opposite direction.
By the way, besides a lovely bunch of Cline solos and interesting lyrical Tweedy conventions, Sky Blue Sky has to be their most uninteresting album.
sky blue sky is by far the "worst" wilco record, but its still a solid album, on and on and on IG hate it here side w/seeds make for amazing live songs, outside of that though the album isnt even close to the past ones
Their sound is incredible and their infectious breakdown-riffs are always being played in your head, enjoyably. Why just think of "Ashes of American Flags", "Poor Places", "Handshake Drugs", "Muzzle of Bees", "You Are My Face", etc. If I had a least favourite album of theirs it'd probably be A.M.: anything pop-rock just makes me cringe. The reason why Sky Blue is uninteresting is because they had the money, the talent and the originality and they wrote songs about doing the dishes instead.
Oh, and one last ramble: you'd listen to Sky Blue for "Impossible Germany", and "Hate it Here"? If there was ever a cop-out in song or musical direction, Hate it Here would be it. Impossible German's lyrics are awful, but the solo section is quite reassuring: after a shit versus-chorus-verse theme, it's nice to actually hear some incandescently wonderful guitar-throbbing sounds.
JEFF TWEEDY owes me $50. When the SUMMERTOOTH tour came to LA a few years back I purchased two tickets for the 2nd night show and they cancelled [due to his mothers illness] they said 'we'll be back' and they never did. I held on to those tickets hoping they would
return. Eventually I misplaced the ticket and have yet to see Wilco. sigh......
Fell in love with this band over the summer because of Sky Blue Sky, beautiful album, listened to it ALL summer and it was all amazing and memories. But seriously, amazing album.

This album is actually simple compared to the other ones. It's also their worst album.
But it's still great

Wilco's 'A Ghost Is Born' and Jamen Brooks 'Sleepyhead' are my two favorite alt-country albums. A.M. and Summerteeth are pretty damn good too.

i tell you the genres people come up with these days are laughable

I wouldn't really call A Ghost is Born country, or even alt. country.
Dude421 3 years ago
i agree, id go with a.m. and being there as their most country sounding, but all in all they are a rock band with dashes of this and that

i think was folk/country, nothing wrong with doing country music
karmaman7 3 years ago
You're right, however Sky Blue Sky and A Ghost Is Born *AIN'T* country; 1995 Wilco could be reciprocated as "country rock", sure, but not 2004 Wilco.
