Semenya is a hermaphrodite. There is no contravention in the ITFA rules, protocol or procedure manual against herms running against men or women. Semenya could technically run in both men and female 800 meter races if she wanted. She can do this until the ITFA rules are defined clearly around herms running against single gender runners. She was born with a penis and a vagina but the it is only the vagina that is operational.
Whether she should be allowed to compete against more normal females is another question entirely. But, yeah, Caster is a hermaphrodite who is, anatomically & genetically, primarily female. The problem is not about umfana/ intombazane.
There are lots of males who can participate in female competitions, as long as they have certain medical conditions, related to testosterone effects.
The problem is that certain men, dishonestly, use other unrelated medical conditions, like having ovaries, uterus and vagina, to participate too.

Semenya is a hermaphrodite. There is no contravention in the ITFA rules, protocol or procedure manual against herms running against men or women. Semenya could technically run in both men and female 800 meter races if she wanted. She can do this until the ITFA rules are defined clearly around herms running against single gender runners. She was born with a penis and a vagina but the it is only the vagina that is operational.

Whether she should be allowed to compete against more normal females is another question entirely. But, yeah, Caster is a hermaphrodite who is, anatomically & genetically, primarily female. John, with all due respect, I have to disagree with you on this one. (Remember, I'm among the ones who re-subscribed when you had to setup a new acct!!!). Caster would seem to be a hermaphrodite who is, despite her voice (and, to some extent, demeanor) is indeed primarily female, but with embedded testes as well as ovaries. So, yeah, she's got a bit more testosterone goin' on, but she's still (primarily, anyway) female, not male. Now, whether she should be allowed to compete against (cont.)

I have no idea what gender Semenya is. She/he could be both due to having XX/XY chromosomes. If that is the case, she shouldn't be able to run in a gender-specific category.
