  • Really good tip, but only really helps when your cutting basic audio. As you get more complex sound waves, you need the transient markers in the warping function. But props still.

  • @Fo0O0oTBall this is just basic chopping, not warping, thanks for the comment

  • Nice! Wish I would have watched this a week ago! Thanks man.

  • @HarmonicInventions glad to help

  • Wasted so much time going on tutorials of people telling me the basic shit that I already knew and didn't tell me fuck all that helped. This video however just got straight in and helped me out so easily. You're a ledgend dude, safe.

  • @TheSixthQueen glad to help fam! Hope you find it useful in your workflow.

  • Good job...you saved me a lot of time...thanks!

  • @PerfectSoundsDJ glad to help fam!

  • @BIGJUNE509 dope man, that's whasup, glad to help!

  • how can I make my samples play without having to hold the pad down?

  • @tdo23487 change the release/sustain time on them in the sampler

  • @SoundsAndGear Excellent thank you, now how would I cut the sample off when another one starts? Basically I want it to keep playing then stop when I hit another pad. They just will play over each other now.

  • @tdo23487 choke groups

  • @SoundsAndGear how would I go about that? Thanks.

  • @tdo23487 set it in the drum rack settings

  • @SoundsAndGear legit, Thanks for the help bro, I appreciate it.

  • Thanks man!

  • good video thnks!, hey man what sample pack is that?

  • @MistaMase102 glad to help man, video is old don't remember where the sounds are coming from and I'm at work so I can listen right now.

  • sj do you put the choke to "1" so they can play like an mpc i have a problem doing that on live

  • @entyce66 they have to be in the same choke group

  • thx!

but my problem is i cant slide the drum pack into the big screen! why `????

  • @gugioren because u might be running a demo or lite version

  • @thatskaterdude199

righti have ableton live lite..but how can i get the whole? how much ?

  • @gugioren you can try downloading the Air version which is just the cracked software. and ir runs for about three to five hundred bucks:/

  • @thatskaterdude199

    ok..thnx

  • the best teachers are the ones that can make someting complicated seem simple. thanx for the post.

  • @ghostduster1 glad to help fam, thanks for the comment

  • amazing tutorial...thanks so much !!!

  • @deejaysoulution glad to help fam

  • thanks!

  • ea man just wanted to say thanks for these videos... seems like nothing to people who know but for those who don't its a big help...

  • @dinnerboy20 no problem bro, glad to help!

  • Do you know if its possible to chop manually the way you did and load into a drum rack preset?

  • @The85thkid not sure what you mean by a drum rack preset. You can have presets that work anytime you drop a sample into the drum rack if that's what you mean.

  • love the videos. what pad do you use? MPD? maschine?

  • @anthropologist maschine, rarely use ableton anymore at all.

  • can i chop a sample that has a tempo of 160 and use it on my project that has a tempo of 88? or do they have to match.. 160 seems kinda fast for a hip hop beat

  • @RomansEmpyre you can stretch the samples in ableton to fit your tempo

  • @SoundsAndGear how do i stretch the samples to fit my tempo? i already have a drum pattern laid out at 88 bpm.. do i have to stretch the whole sample to fit 88bpm before chopping them into slices?

  • @RomansEmpyre yes, you warp it in live and you would stretch it before you chop it.

  • is ti possible to warp a song first to get it on tempo with your beat, and then slice them to a drum rack?

  • @KATOMATE01 yes I believe so

  • Thanks for the help s&g! I had about 5 open samplers O_O! This helped my workflow a lot.

  • @r1e2y4 no doubt, glad to help!

  • can you pleassse tell me how to do that! iam now doing all the drumrack slices manually!! Thanks!

  • @ninjahtunes you have to create your own preset for dropping samples into drum racks.

  • Are you using a drumrack preset with this one (Oneshot)

    thanks fo the tut btw!

  • @ninjahtunes yes, thanks

  • Seriously bro this was great. A huge help.

  • @satch402 glad to help fam!

  • Can I ask how you record the audio into your screen recording software? I'm assuming Live is running in ASIO mode. When I have Ableton or Studio One running, Camtasia won't recognize any audio input. Do you route the Line Outs of your interface to a separate input for your screen recorder? I'm trying to make some vids and having issues. Thx for this channel, btw...been a subscriber for a while now.

  • @deadhenderson my interface has a loopback recording feature, some call this stereo mix or wave out depending on the device. If an interface doesn't support this, Camtasia will not see it and be able to grab the audio.

  • Can I dump the slices to midi from drum rack?

  • @Jannto I'm not sure what you mean

  • @SoundsAndGear Okay, sorry about being a bit unclear, I was in a hurry. So, say I have a loop sliced, which I have dumped into a midi track. Then you know how the slices are arranged into a midi track automatically. If I delete taht midi track, can I make Drum rack make a new one?

  • @Jannto you would make your own track using the sounds in the drum rack, you'd play it in yourself.

  • @SoundsAndGear No I mean, can I make the drum rack dump the midi loop back to the arrangement view.

  • @Jannto if you deleted the midi track, there is no midi track for you to dump, so once you get rid of the midi track, it's gone, the only way to make new midi data is to record it.

  • @SoundsAndGear Oh, I see, that's too bad, I wish they implemented it. It's not that big of a feature, but it would be useful. Thanks for taking the time to expain this to me even though I'm a bit hard headed.

  • Hey man much love for the tutorial, Appreciate it tons!

  • @Serial520 glad to help fam

  • Really need an answer!! Does ableton live come with the drum rack and all of the drum samples or will i need to get suite for that???? I'd really appreciate a response! THanks!

  • @AggBlasters regular version comes with drum rack and some samples, you get more content in suite but you don't need suite to get drum racks.

  • @SoundsAndGear thanks man ill sub!

  • @AggBlasters no problem, you should download the ableton demo to see what all you get with it

  • how do you actually get the mp3 file into the software when i go into my music folder from ableton it dosn't show any songs?????pleasee helpp!!

    thanks

  • @killerfly1 just drag it into ableton

  • @SoundsAndGear wont let me it comes up with a cross sign

  • @killerfly1 not sure then, never had that issue, maybe it's a format issue?

  • @SoundsAndGear And do u know what other instruments live comes with? Maybe its just me but i Have trouble finding the specs on the site haha

  • @AggBlasters they tell you everything that comes with it, and compare it to suite. you don't get any of the extra synths unless you buy suite, so you don't get operator, the ep, all that stuff, that only comes with suite, you get drum racks and simpler, with presets for both.

  • Yes. Simple and exactly what I wanted!! big up.

  • @eliphino22 glad to help fam

  • @def4d thanks, glad to help man!

  • I understand this video, but I don't understand how I can change the pitch of a sample in the drum rack. From arrangement view I can change the transpose and it works, but once I drag it to the drum rack it sounds like the default sound.

  • @GashisDX think this is limitation of the drum rack, go into the simpler for each pad and try to change it there.

  • @GashisDX

to change the pitch of a sample, drag the audio into arrangement view, select it, edit>consolidate, then chop it up. when you drag it into the drum rack, it will keep the new pitch

  • Great tutorial man, I'll probably be using this method now. Didn't know if you knew but you can also drag all of the split clips to the drum rack at the same time. Anyway, thanks again for the video.

  • @DeftFlow word man, glad to help, yeah, sometimes I don't chop in consecutive places so you may just want to grab different parts, etc, but thanks!

  • Great vid! Is there any way to pitch the chops differently to get different sounds or to slow down the sample?

  • @xr4idx open up the simpler on each pad you can tweak them there

  • can anyone help me out??? i cant drop my drum rack like the way dude did for some reason do i need to create an empty drum rack somehow first?

  • 4:44 lol

  • @Tomskate22 lol ahahaha, my bad! lol

  • i like the video i never knew u can do that way that's tight i am still learning how to use ableton live 8 i been using logic for so long you should try pulse by sonivox st. joe take it easy homie i watch alot of your other videos ?

  • @972youngwhite cool man, glad to help...I have pulse as well.

  • Changed the way I look at ableton. Just dusted off my mpd24 for the first time in months. Much appreciated!

  • @criffyred glad to help

  • dude thankyou! i didnt know if this was what i wanted to do it wasnt.... but it solved my problem anyway! so thanks dude keep up the videos!

  • @totalyruben cool, glad to help lol

  • Man thank you so much you don't even know how much this helped me out, been trying to do this for a while now and couldn't figure it out. Once again thank you. PEACE!

  • @Lakers4life714 glad to help fam

  • @KidWuzi you can expand each drum rack spot, show the device which will be a simpler, and adjust. I will say I don't use Live much so there may be other ways to do it.

  • @KidWuzi you would have to go into each individual simpler/slice and change it I believe

  • definitely much easier to do this in the session view using warp markers and then hitting slice to new midi track.

  • @t1mTV already did a video on that, this is for people that like to slice manually instead of using slice to midi, thanks for the comment

  • @SoundsAndGear Using the warp markers is soooo much easier though. you can create such accurate slice points.

  • @t1mTV lol, everyone doesn't work the same, some people like to make their own chops, not use warp markers, they just like to chop it where they want. Neither way is hard lol, it's all easy really.

  • @dannyhance18 either try to eq/filter it or don't use the part with the drums if you don't want them

  • can you chop this way and still have your pads cut each other off like the mpc doesÉ

  • @swoopsleezy yes you just need to set your choke groups

  • Hey man, you are cool to take the time out to offer these peeps a clear and simple way to do something that you know a lot of 'em are trying to do but having trouble with. Keep choppin'!

  • @squatterbeats glad to help yo

  • dope thanx man

  • @djhaiezone glad to help yo

  • Yo,

Didn't know you could do it that way, Thanks for the vid mane

    KIR

  • @itsHeebz Glad to help, thanks for watching

  • What is the best way to, from this point, record? Do you use external drum kits or the ones in Ableton? Kinda gettin stuck here...

  • @jaguarblack1 I have varous drum samples if that's what you mean, there is no best way, it's whatever you're trying to do at the moment.

  • Thank You So Much ! This is a Fabulous (and Much Easier and Quicker) way to Chop up Samples; giving you (me) Much More Control; which is Exactly what I need; Thank You :) :)

  • @tillyferrari glad to help yo

  • Ah man thanks like the 1st time some has shown it that way! Meen lookin for months!!

  • @jaguarblack1 glad to help fam

  • thanks a lot man

  • @undefeated1000 no problem, thanks.

  • you organized your music very well~~~

  • @a125983467 thanks for watching

  • thanks bro, this saves so much time and helps me really control what and how i want to sample, and it more control than using fl studio to me, because its harder to control individual paramaters of each sample in fl studio . this is just like the mpc 2xl to me. the only issue i have is i rewire ableton into cubase and the midi keyboard is disabled in rewire mode so i have to chopp in ableton then import into cubase.

  • @lexxon11 glad to help yo! that's whasup!

  • Thanks man!!! Been doing slice to midi and its not always perfect with longer loops like 8 measures exc. But this is where its at... Crate diggers key to the city!

  • @smoke1witOb11 that's what's up man, glad to help yo!

  • Hi all,

    Dope preset!

I need a little help. I'm using the Ski beatz preset for slicing. I like it a lot. The best part about it is it uses one sampler. This way I can select the start point only onces with my mouse, then edit each slice startpoint indivually by triggering them on my midikeyboard en left/right arrowkeys. Very nice way to edit.

But my problem is it is not possible to autoset macrocontrols in the preset. Then it uses a sampler for each chop.

    Anyone who knows?

  • @Bathmutz thanks for watching, I never messed with that preset before so I'm not sure how it works or what would be possible with it. Maybe ask on the Ableton forum.

  • I've just started playing around with ableton, and this simple lesson has been a big help.

  • @SubversionArts glad to help yo!

  • thanx so much man!

  • Concise, simple, and effective. You made it easy, thank you

  • @sextronica cool, thanks for watching it, glad to help.

  • Thanks a bunch. I'm learning a lot from people like yourself.

  • @shahram72 cool yo, glad to help.

  • Thanx Bro

  • @graphattic no doubt, thanks for watchin.

  • thanks! I been doing this with the regular Impulse but this is way faster! I am on it

  • @djkoopz yeah it works wit impulse too, good stuff!

  • thanks for all the videos you make to help! peace!

  • @dregz01 no doubt yo!

  • @kbow38 glad to help bro!

  • What do you do to stop the pads from overlapping over each other in Drumrack

  • @tcw00 put them into the same choke group

  • @SoundsAndGear Im sorry im pretty new to ableton. Im not sure what the choke group is

  • @tcw00 it's in the manual, choke groups let one sound cut off the other, read the manual about the drum rack settings, it's real easy to setup.

  • @SoundsAndGear Ok Thanks

  • @tcw00 no problem yo

  • You are a genius, I learn more from you than any college professor. Thanks for the education.

  • @planitmusic lol, cool glad to help!

  • Youre a lifesaver man! Thanks. Great software. Now i can make proper beats when the mp isnt avalible.

  • @terminatorandre cool man, glad to help!

  • excellent technique.

I never thought to chop this way.

    Abelton Live is very versatile.

  • @lordtoranaga thanks bro, yeah man, ableton is that joint lol

  • Yo i like your vids man... keep em coming please

  • thanks man

  • cool, whasup?

  • no problem, it's all good yo!

  • u have everything you need. I used "simpler" it comes without the suite.

  • how do you save each hit you take from a sample as a wav or something you can use in the future without having to go through the chopping process again? cheers

  • I never tried that I usually save it as a kit. I'll have to look into that.

  • good stuff - thanks!

  • no doubt fam! thanks for watchin.

  • here is another DOPE trick for you from alwayzambitious on im. guys u can select multiple chops and drag them all to the drum rack in one shot...

  • nice!!!

  • and Im gonna say more...thanks for showing the visual way to do it and pushing that...this is how I do mines...I dont even dump em to a midi instrument most of the time...I match the tempo then chop, drag n drop in the session view unless im unsure of my arrangement...people dont understand that live has a new and easier way to chop n slice...well let me say MANY easy ways to chop and slice...I started with live 4...there was no slice to midi...lol...anyway im rambling peace bro

  • no doubt man, I feel ya, it's all good yo! thanks for the comment.

  • good stuff

  • thanks bro

  • Thank you for taking the time to do this.

Everytime I find an easy way to do something in ableton, youtube shows me an even easier way! I love this software!

  • no problem! enjoy!

  • ay sj what is the choke number @....is it #1 thx

  • yeah...you can set it to whatever you want, the number represents the groups...so you can have various choke groups

  • It's a lot simpler than I thought. I'm really feeling your tutorials. Keep up the good work brotha!!

  • awesome! glad to help!
