Over 5 years, it came out in November 2006.

A lot of game engines haven't really changed that much, and the 8800GTX was just so awesome back then that all games still support the 8800GT/9800GT.

@Usul573 thing is there has only bin 2 drivers out so far lol.when i look at my gpu usage its only at 30% in some games itll spike to 90% and wen that happens the fps goes up.i play gta IV with enb series and sometimes gpu usage will 50% constant and the fps will be at 25fps, but then sometimes ill boot the game up and the gpu usage will spike back and forth from 80% to 97% and giv me 40 fps..drivers are not refined yet, the future drivers will stablize the card, and keep gpu usage 90% constant.

@Usul573 just tried crysis warhead with everything maxed and 8xAA with my card and im getting 35-40 fps....but gpu usage is 60%...once the new drivers are out the gpu usage needs to be 95% constant so that i can get 60 fps constant with a friggin 4 yr old game

I always play with 4 of this cards at the same time, but sometimes when I really want to play, I use two gtx 795 (which came from the future). If you want to play some latest games such as Crysis, GTA4 etc.. you want a GTX260, GTX275 or GTX295.

Prices from UK, in GBP. You might be able to get it cheaper than this isn't just a rough scale:

9800GT - £70-£100

GTS250 - £80-110

GTX260 - £100-150

GTX275 - £140-180

GTX295 - £300+

Any of these cards would be good for games, but obviously the more money spent gives you best performance.

I had overclocking slider all the way to the right. Now I'm adjusting it to the middle. Set fan speed at 65%. Hopefully this won't be a problem again. Better not be more screen tears when playing Fallout 3 also. Definitely an improvement of the slo-mo gaming I had before with that 8400 GS garbage.

Nope, my friend. I have XFX Radeon HD 4850 installed in my tower. I have the other card, it's just not installed in the PC. I don't think I can have them both in....hmm since there only seems to be one slot that will fit the card type. I'll try to sell it, but I don't think anyone will buy the 8400 GS or if they do I'd be lucky to get $20 at most.

It's ATi by the way that 4850....the 8800 GS is GeForce. ATi is just as good if not better than GeForce. If they (GeForce) had one as powerful as the 4850 and about the same price I probably would of got the GeForce in this case....

Hmm I actually got it now. I'm having an issue though. Not sure of what the wattage is on my power supply so was afraid to connect it. If my wattage is too low it could damage my computer. Trying to get more info. After shipping I got a good deal on ebay for about $85 and change. Worst case is if it's not compatible with my computer I'll have to resell it on ebay or craigslist. If anyone knows how I find out my watts on my power supply I'd appreciate it.

hey man- it should say right on the PSU itself on the sticker info on the side of the psu chassis. You can run the 4850 on around 375 watts of power.

Ya your power supply is rated at 500 Watts. Its plenty to run your video card with ease. Even tho its a no name brand, it still is a healthy enough margin over the 400 watts requirments that it doesn't matter.

If your Motherboard isn't SLI- then it shouldn't matter what card you have, even if it is an Nforce Chipset. If its not SLI then you should be able to go either ATI or Nvidia. Try downloading the latest Bios updates for your mobo. Maybe theres an update patch out there on Internet Land.!

I guess it's more expensive than the one I installed a little over a week ago. Using XFX branded ATI Radeon HD 4850. So far with this my only complaint would be that it's been restoring the settings and I would get a blank screen for about 8-10 seconds before I'm notified to send or don't send error. I find that to be ridiculous because it's similarly useless (sending report) like Windows asking to send them an error report. Nothing gets fixed with that....

Yes, you're right, but what about when the shuttle wants to come back to Earth, what then? You have to re-enter the atmosphere to get back to Earth, and re-entry is thermally stressful on the shuttle. That is why you would want to cool the shuttle with Thermal Electric Cooling.

I have the PNY NVIDIA 9600 GT GeForce and I would recommend the 9600 to 9800 GT because your're getting a lot of performance out of those. 8600 ones may not give you the power that you need. Gamers need power for games.

Uh you're highly wrong.

8xxx GTX is the G90, it gets much hotter than a 9xxx GTX.

The 9xxx GTX has much higher speeds, and is much more faster (G92) than the 8800 GTX.

If you look at benchmarks, the 9xxx series is always 5-10% faster than the G90 series.

the 8800 GTS has a G92 Version, which keeps it up with most 9xxx/8xxx cards if you overclock it.

Grandtheftauto4123- When the 8800GTX was first released it was a nasty card.- It was the card that put Nvidia out of ATI's reach for a VERY long time- The 8800GTX nowadays isn't anything special. With the release of the G90 core, the 8800GTX immediately became obselete and a poor bargain. The G90 8800GT and GTS were the begining of the end for the 8800GTX. Costing hundreds less and relatively the same performance once overclocked. Buy an ATI 4850 or 4870 if your in the market for a new GFX card.
