That's a tough situation when a tornado forms in the middle of the night when most people are sleeping & anyone awake & outside can't see it due to the darkness. Sometimes a tornadic thunderstorm will produce almost constant lightning that will illuminate a night time tornado.
The national weather service cannot issue a tornado warning unless they have distinct evidence of one. This can be a confirmed police sighting, a trained spotter, a radar signature or the news showing it with their own radar.
Plus, seriously - people are stupid and ignore tornado warnings anyways. If it had been issued 30 minutes ahead of time, they still would have said "We done an had no ideer ther was nuthin' headin' our way". Natural selection at work, I guess. The dumb get killed.
National weather service: " Um, yeah..... there is a tornado located near Gaston County. And its at a near 110 mph wind speed so, seek shelter and stay away from windows. You could die!" People in Gaston County: " NO FUCK!"
wow i want to know how the fuck do you sleep through a tornado with trees falling cars flying i got a clue they a frats they were drunk passed out on the coach
It's sad & unfortunate that Americans have such a high level of expectation to be warned. Any & everything, natural or man-made disaster, we expect to be warned, in just the right way, far ahead of the event, so that we are kept in total and complete safety at the hands of others. Responsibility is handed to others & we get mad when they fail. Sick.
During the tornado in August of 2009 that hit Vaughn, Toronto, Ontario, Environment Canada didn't issue a tornado warning until about five or ten minutes after the fact.
im from illinois not exactly the south but ppl talk like that here too its annoying cuz I have a lil bit of a southern accent and i get made fun of but im not a redneck
when one of them was in south carolina it was heading twoards usut it was so dark we couldnt even see anything outside the next day after no damage to houses but the creek behind my house about 15-30 yards from my house thats really close now and there was a huge tree riped out of the ground and oh my god it was huge theres a clay bank and it got washed away a few days later two trees fell off the bank because they where really hanging there in (gastonia)
when one of them was in south carolina it was heading twoards usut it was so dark we couldnt even see anything outside the next day after no damage to houses but the creek behind my house about 15-30 yards from my house thats really close now and there was a huge tree riped out of the ground and oh my god it was huge theres a clay bank and it got washed away a few days later two trees fell off the bank because they where really hanging there
Maybe the damage that was reported 15 minutes earlier wasn't from the tornado. Straight line winds, maybe? The NWS noticed it at :23 and a warning was out 2 minutes later. Oh so you just didn't think anything of that tornado watch that was out. lol Fucking dummies. Yeah, sure. Let's blame your stupidity on the NWS. And if you saw a tornado warning 20 minutes in advance, you would have taken the same action as most people do and as you did to the watch. Not paid any attention to it.
National Weather Service people seem to be like morons when it comes to severe weather in the night like last year around june we had a tornado that came thru here with no tornado warning no tornado watch nothing but then they put us in a tornado warning at like 8pm when the tornado came thru at like 4am
It happened here in Lorain Ohio a few years ago, just a minor F-1 that blew a few trees over and ruined a garage, but I saw the radar and rotation within when the storm was near Toledo, about 60 miles west of here. It had a very prominent hook echo. The NWS didn't issue a warning until the storm was nearly 20 miles to my east. I got it all on tape somewhere...I should be a weather forecaster. Plus it happened here back in 1924, killed 80 people-look up Lorain Tornado.
You can have all the damage in the world, but a tornado warning can't be issued unless NWS employees see definite rotation on radar or unless a spotter, a NWS employee, storm chaser, TV weatherman or law enforcement official calls the NWS and tell them he/she saw a tornado.
Residents could have also called 911 about the tornado if they saw it and they would have relayed it to the NWS.
its simple tornadoes are unpredictiable in there movement and some can appear without warning its the same with earthquakes they can appear out of nowhere a hurricane you may have some warning but it can change its direction without warning a lightning strike is unpredictable, allot of natural hazards are very hard too predict its not the experts fault at all they just don't understand them enough
Thats why they always say that during a severe thunderstorm you should always be alert that it can produce a tornado with little to no warning so always be alert! It's not up to the weather service to protect you every minute of every hour of every day. The No.1 severe weather rule is- Noone is going to save you only you can save yourself and your family by how serious you take the situation. If people realize finally that their own safety is in their hands maybe there would be less deaths
Thats why the work that storm chasers do is so important and the reason behind the Vortex project. Its to understand the dynamics of tornaodes better so they can look for them and warn ahead of time. Problem is that now we're so used to tornado watchs without things happening, that if a warning happens because a storm is capable of putting down a tornado and it actually doesn't, then that gets us to let our guards down a bit more. Tornadoes at night are so dangerous cause you can't see them
ok, first problem was the guy knew there was a tornado watch and thought nothing of it. Another thing was this happened at 2 am. night time tornadoes are so hard to predict. You here damage, but without confirmation from the ground, it could have just been a downburst or gust front that caused the damaged. Night time tornadoes are extremely dangerous and very hard to spot.
Yes. Thats exactly what happened. The Republicans decided not to give out the warning. I'm sure there was no actual reason, just Republicans because only Republicans work for the National Weather Service.... Damn them Republicans! ...
are you sure this wasn't in Florida, they do the same thing here, stupid , just plain stupid people who don't know their jobs, and here it is 2010 almost
Unless you understand how things work like not all weather can be seen by the radar then you will understand that sometimes tornadoes and other severe weather will happen without warning. Want to make it better? VOLUNTEER to be a storm spotter....
Only liberals would wait for the government to say something before they act. "No warning"?!? How about the massive rotating dark clouds, trees snapping, and (oh yes) the "sound of the frieght train" approaching?!?! Or is it the government's fault that you've never heard the sound of a passing frieght train, or what to do when you see trees snapping and rotating dark clouds approaching???!! PLEASE!!
Oh yes, all these people in a small North Carolina community who had a tornado rip through their houses at 2:15 IN THE MORNING are all liberals because they didn't pay attention to the dark clouds and waited too long for the government to do something... You're ridiculous.
Why WHY is it that following any natural disaster in the US -- tornado, hurricane, earthquake, you name it -- the people they interview are always speaking with a "redneck" accent and shirtless?
I swear if Harvard or MIT ever got hit with a tornado, the one person they find to interview would still be only in sweatpants and high-tops, saying "Yeh, I'z was slaypin in th'celler, but thuh yunginz were a scraymen at may to git up an' den I sawz thuh tarnayduh oveh thar."
@rugbynimbus Jeff Foxworthy wondered the same thing. In fact, I think one of his redneck definitions is people who are always on the news describing the sound of the tornado as it hit their house.
@rugbynimbus The climate in the south & southeastern US is ideal for tornado formation, and that's the regional accent. (Eyt sawnded des lahk uh fruyt truyn!) So many guys are shirtless because it's hot as hell there, and it has to be hot & humid for tornadoes to form. Atlantic hurricanes also usually make US landfall in the southeastern states. I've never heard that accent describe an earthquake though.
Now UFOs and Bigfoot are another matter. Why they follow the rednecks I'll never know...
@rugbynimbus Because most natural disasters don"t happen in urban areas. But if a tornado or flood hit NYC or Chicago, the one person that would say they saw everything and wanted to interview would be from the south or mid west..
@rugbynimbus it's the media's way of making it more dramatic than it really was. Our local news tried this BS with a storm that blew through NW Wisconsin the other day. People claimed they had no warning, yet every weather station was right on top of the entire event, The SPC, NWS and the Weather Channel were all over it, and every local storm chaser (including myself) had been watching the models for days! All storm warnings were issued in perfect fassion, yet these DUMBASSES still whined !
@rugbynimbus I KNOW! It's as if tornadoes rip the shirts off all their victims and knocks them on their heads so hard they speak differently for the first few days after the storm /-:
@rugbynimbus its b/c most tornados occur in the south or in tornado alley. many people in those areas have strong southern accents. i agree tho. they should at least put some clothes on when bein interviewed XD it makes us southerners look bad
@rugbynimbus It's part of the code, if you get hit by a tornado or some natural disaster, you're automatically made a redneck. In fact, if you look closely you can see Carl Sagan in this video.
@rugbynimbus nah if it was in Chicago theyed interview a nigg in a white tee, some saggin ass pants and some Jay's "mayne dat mafuckin tonayfdo finna come thur dis mofuckin citay nigga i wuz lyke ayee trey trey ayll we finna dipp dis mafuckkin tiwstuh nigga we finna die joe awwwweeee hellll nahwhwhwhwwwwwwwwww
ooh southern boys. anyway, that's kind of how it is here. in a place where we get tornadoes probably once every five years nobody knows what to do. you should see where they put us in school during the drills. hopefully there never is one because everyone at school would be hurt
Well, they say that sometimes tornadoes are hard to predict. Thats probably why they didnt get a chance to warn you because also another possibility would have been that it formed fast and they didnt get time to even warn people before it hit. But it was an F-2, and F-2's are sort of weak.
Hm, just because they live somewhere that might not be the best place in the world, doesn't mean you have to make fun of them for it. You should stfu anyways because you're the one who probably lives somewhere worse than that and your just trying to make yourself feel better.
I was awake when that hit, hit one block over from me. Noticed that the wind was blowing sideways, thought it was weird but didnt freak out or anything. Next day, trees everywhere and the cemetery was tore up. Didnt hear a thing.
That happened here too. I remember it, I actually tracked the storm as it developed a hook and moved right over here, a weak tornado was spotted a few miles east; they didn't issue a tornado warning until the damage had already been done.
That's why I keep an eye to the sky anytime severe weather is around. I predicted the storm's tornadic nature a half hour before they did.
What an arrogant and elitist thing to say. Just because people can't afford to live anywhere besides a trailer park, doesn't mean they're automatically trash. Let me guess: You're an Obama supporter?
According to the video, Doppler indicated at 2:23 AM and a warning was issued at 2:25 AM (that's a difference of only TWO minutes). It takes at least that to type up the warning itself. Not to mention the lag in getting it to the local authorities. Second, it was in the middle of the night, which is especially dangerous, because so few would have actually received the warning. Third, the NWS's biggest enemy is public indifference, i.e. "It can't happen here."
Um you're kind of arrogant...its called the NWS...that's why people were angry, because they are supposed to be able to tell when something like that is going to happen. :(
That's a tough situation when a tornado forms in the middle of the night when most people are sleeping & anyone awake & outside can't see it due to the darkness. Sometimes a tornadic thunderstorm will produce almost constant lightning that will illuminate a night time tornado.

It is obvious to me and the network media that this is George Bush's fault.

what i hate is how they say it hit without warning....of course there wasnt a warning "hey everyone im a tornado, i think ill come by next week"

Um you're kind of arrogant...its called the NWS...that's why people were angry, because they are supposed to be able to tell when something like that is going to happen. :(

Radar can't always see a tornado immediately. Why they waited 15 minutes though is beyond me. I think someone at the NWS might have screwed up.

No tornado warning issued?
Another example of government incompetence. I'd be extremely surprised if the person who was responsible for this huge mess-up was not a Republican.
