  • post-hardcore evolved into emotive hardcore, normally shortened to emo. this is emo.

  • This song gives me the biggest nostalgia feeling EVER. I love this band<3

  • coooool.

  • The term emo. It was short for emotive hardcore and started floating around when punks stopped talking about politcs and anger and got in touch with their emotions. The term was fiddled with in the 90's and started something beautiful and then finally in 2003 we got bands like atreyu and later came black veil brides. So 80's peak of emo 90's emo took off, 2000's the term emo was corrupted and turned into a fasion scene. So all those bands people cal emo2day r not. lsn 2 cap n jazz and jawbreaker

  • @FredLeaf1 Check bands on topshelf and count our lucky stars records. we are reviving this genre. let's do it!

  • lead man, nate mendel. currently doing whatever dave grohl tells him to for the last 12 years......

  • The guitarist looks like Jesus, and that makes me smile for some reason.

  • the term emo is emo and shouldnt be used except in the title of a blink 182 song

  • stop to say this band is EMO, in this age the term EMO doesn't exist, this is just hardrock alternative band with lyrics that touch your heart and make you think!!!!

  • @dahasp1 actually it does, its a genre.

  • @dahasp1 this is early emocore.

  • @GreatUntilYou yes early EMO

  • @GreatUntilYou no core, just emo

  • @edgefanforlife14 aaah okej :D

  • I dream to heal your wounds...but I bleed myself

  • is the drummer breaking out a madman t-shirt?

  • SDRE <3 Takes me back to the good ol' days for sure. Great band, great sound.

  • Dude this is soooo old school!! LOVVVEEE this! Been a damn long time!!

  • Yeah Nate Mendal

  • dis shit is dank HOes.

    reminds me of growing up.

people seriously look up this song just to comment emo? thats sort of sad, its like they never had emotional lives, or memories. to not be able to understand or relate to thsi song is just really sad

  • How I dream, to heal your wounds... But I bleed myself. I, bleed myself.

  • @snowwhitesdildo it's amazing the effect that comma has.

    PD: 2:11 - 2:15 drummer's face jajaja

  • emocore...!!

  • The Godfathers of good music

  • the first time i saw sunny day .jeremy was wearing a "seaweed" t-shirt check them out also check out "garden variety" song is called harbored real cool .......

  • I'm happy that Nate didn't leave Foo Fighters when SDRE got back together. He had a better thing goin with Foo Fighters anyway.

  • loving the bass

  • @ant0586 i love it when people pick out the bass. its so awesome. and how about that snair drum? nuts...

  • I need to listen to more SDRE. I've been slacking lately.

  • i donn't know if this has been mentioned, but the place where they made this video is the same place stone temple pilots did "sex type thing"!!!

  • Man do I wish this style of music would make a comeback. Grudge rock.....emo rock....I don't care what its called, its great music!

  • @raidercity I totally agree with that ...a great era for songwriting and great sound quality be it bass, guitar, drums or vocals..'Grunge' was the evolution of and blend of metal and punk rock. Plus it always sounded cool in the car. ;-)

  • @raidercity Its still around. You just need to go to specific bars / cafes

  • @raidercity It sort of is!

Listen to the band Joyce Manor for starters.

  • @raidercity this is not emo.

    D, ,

  • @raidercity There is a lot of it. Look up Title Fight, Daylight etc.

  • @raidercity Actually it's out there and alive.. look up chillwave bands like: Cloud Nothings-Male Bounding-Wavves-Best Coast-No Joy

  • creed stole the beginning of this song. what a shit band creed is. this sounds great tho.

  • Now I know them from looking the Foo Fighters Back and Forth dvd

  • 0:05 - BEST BASS HOOK EVER.

  • one of my favorite bands to listen to in the late 90's in High school.

  • so strange: i've heard this in radio last night, and it felt like i've been knowing this song ever since, though i probabaly have never heard it before. it's absolutely great! "new" good band discovered!

  • For decades I believe that this is this best ever!!!!

    Thank you!

  • Dude thats the best video i have ever seen!

  • nate mendel is such an underrated bassist

  • Amazing song. I heard had this on a cassette that I recorded from the Radio 1 Rock Show back in about 1999. Haven't heard it since then until a few days ago!!!!!

  • @PieChipsAndGravy7 sweet, all i ever hear is crap on radio 1

  • Weird. Sunny Day wrote a song about Google+...like, 20 years before it even came out

  • @personM4N wow what a lame comment and 15 mindless marketing reps to agree

  • @NYstateofCons

You're not cool for thinking you're rebellious.

I'm sure 15 google marketing representatives were watching this video, you're a god damn psychic.

You're comment was just fucking stupid, you meant to be hurtful.

PersonM4N was trying to amuse people.

  • @wevor4tard Dude just cause your vag is bleeding over your boyfriends weak comment doesn't mean I need to be the subject of your hissy fit. Save it for your shrink. Cheers to this song I had this cd in 7th grade. RIP to your bloody vag; it has run its course.

  • @NYstateofCons lol y u mad?

  • @personM4N =). I'm not it just seemed like something a marketing rep for google would say. Or someone involved with the midwest poser wannabe rocker scene that fakes its way throughout Williamsburg. Either or.

  • @NYstateofCons

you're not some superior human for listening to a band for longer than most.

but if you wanna play that card, I've been having sex since before you were born, and one day you'll find your unlucky lady.

What you said didn't even make sense, are you retarded? (not even trying to be mean, that was serious)

  • @wevor4tard No. I doubt you have ever engaged in consensual sex sans credit card involvement and or/ a heavily summed cash exchange. Further, my previous comment DOES make sense but all your lame flannel shirt wearing hipster posing has rendered you inept. Why are you concerned with my sex life anyway and if you are so old what the hell are you doing with yourself all day? Those are rhetorical questions. peace out ugly.

  • Respond to this video... This is what emo used to be actually. rites of spring was the first emo band of course.

  • @personM4N Wow, that is one of the most douche-tacular comments I have ever seen!

  • @evenrane u mad?

  • @personM4N how is it about google+?

  • @FritosAndMtDew its called "in circles" its meant to be a joke

  • @personM4N lmao

  • The original rhythm section of the Foo Fighters here.... NAte Mendel on bass and William Goldsmith on Drums. Shame William didn't meet the expectations of dave really, but his expectations must be pretty fucking high!!!

  • Diary is the best alum ever!

  • awesome song but cant help but notice drums are occasionally out of time

  • @bosox14

True, but a lot of bands around this time period found themselves hitting the snare drum just a fraction of a second late, and even though it's imperfect I think it sounds great that way. In fact, when I drum there's some songs on occasion that I want to do the same thing. Another good example of this is The getup kids' four minute mile album, although that's the only album I got into by them.

  • @bosox14 the drums sound like that because it's a grungy style.

  • What does this song mean? I just want to know.

  • A lot of the beginning Emo bands where still pretty fast, as far as playing. The lyrical content was what separated them. Sunny day and many other bands started playing more technical and slowed there sound a bit. Still keeping elements of hardcore into there music. Like old emo? check out Rites of Spring, Gray Matter and Fugazi.

  • I first heard this song on a mix tape my friend made me in 2001 or so. Also included were songs by Red House Painters, Rainer Maria, Rufus Wainwright and Nick Drake. It was my gateway drug into the world of indie music.

  • Mad respect to dave grohl, but trav straight jams and probly could have made those early foo fighters albums sound a little less like pop music radio hits. Love dave, i just dont think u shud write songs, play lead guitar, sing lead vocals and drum! Either way sdre are still jaming today and sound great. SEATTLE Represent

  • Texas knows shit from apple butter

  • God damn, its not Emo! This is good fuckin 90's grunge. And Guess what, they used instruments to create this, not a fucking apple device! Born in 83 represent. Kanye West is a gay fish! And I will fuck lil wayne up worse than Katrina!!

  • @wakensled Actually, this is Emo. "Emotive Hardcore" in fact. Why do people get insulted by that word? This is deep and well written, that's what Emo is. And Sunny Day Real Estate hates homophobia. Stop using the word "Gay" as an insult.

  • @MrMcGale Fuck you! U know shit!

  • @MrMcGale Yeah, this band has been around for while. I first found out about them in the mid nineties. Yes, they are classified as early emo. You are correct MrMcGale. Early SubPop stuff.

  • MUITO BOA A MÚSICA E A BANDA...

  • hahaha nice, I remember at least a handful of bands trying to copy them arounf my area back in the 90s..

none ever suceeded, but it was a nice way to pay tribute to a descent band

  • this band/album is amazing.

  • Comment removed

  • @samosborne37 nothing wrong with pointy shoes XD

  • @samosborne37 I love sunny day real estate, but don't understand your insult. Are you referring to a specific band or genre with the "curly hair, pointed shoes" comment?

  • @samosborne37 what's wrong with curly hair?

  • @samosborne37 pointy shoes, curly hair, and random screeches, are you referring to witches?

  • Can we all stop arguing over 'emo'. It's a style of music. That's been established. The youth of the nation is also musically ignorant (mostly). That's been established, too. I am 14 and I understand (:

  • i fucking love this song

  • every one shut the fuck up and enoy the MUSIC !! itsa balst from the past so enjoy

  • @punkbeech2008 i love how you said no its not emo and tell the guy to do research on emo on wiki... when a big portion of the emo wiki talks about how SDRE is emo...

  • @texasisfunny they defined the "emo sound" that's all

  • @texasisfunny Hahaha (: It Does, dude!

  • @texasisfunny there are so many bands that defined the genre before the term became widely accepted by mainstream media. rites of spring, embrace, cap'n jazz, mineral, christie front drive, boys life, etc...were the innovators. not to mention the more diy bands- julia, current, indian summer, portraits of past...good luck finding those records.

  • 0:00 - 0.04 that sound is legendary in the grunge/alternative scene.

    I love this band.

  • so sweet.

  • mmmm mmmm good

  • @s4ur2fe0r Erm... no it's not. Don't believe me then look up the page 'emo' on wikipedia. Do your research before making false accusations, retard.

  • @punkbeech2008 Saying "emo" is not an accusation, man. Emo was a really nice musical genre back in the 90's. Do your research before making yourself look like a fool. Take it as a friendly advice :)

  • @JoMCaR3193 terms such as "emo" are just attempts by the media and the industry to pigeonhole a band into a certain category. what it really comes down to is your own personal taste. i by no means am an "emo kid" but i love this band and that's that.

  • @punkbeech2008 welll mr poserbeach, ill have you know that sunny day real estate is widely recognized as the first emo band to define the sound.........faggot

  • i sure miss these days. I didnt even know this was "emo" 14 or so years ago, i just liked how they sounded (and still do) we didnt care as much about distinct genres then

  • @s4ur2fe0r that's because it is just plain good passionate music. "emo" is just a made up word used by the musically uneducated.

  • lol some guy thinks they sound like blink 182

  • i keep coming back to this song... driving in my car down dark country roads, immersed in the misery, immersed in the circles of my own life. SDRE was my favorite band when I was 13... and at 29... it still moves me. Does this mean that I never grew up? Or is it cross generational awesomeness in misery? Think I'll get happy with TPR next... happiness is all the rage...

  • this song makes me want to slit my wrists

  • Again...so distant and haunting like made from the winds voice...its perfect

  • I love this song, but damn this is such a creepy video. It would be kinda cool to be that ginger kid, you'd be able to say you were in a SDRE vid in all, too bad he will always be ginger though hahaha

  • one of those few moments where idea and execution become more than the sum of the parts. An iconic song.

  • Nate Mendel is one of rock musics under appreciated musicians. Diary is a classic album. SDRE rule. Props to William Goldsmith for rocking the Captain Marvel t-shirt,

  • that video set was used by nirvana for come as you are also. i love this vid better though, sunny day and jeremy rule.

  • @kalfrain, lol'd heartily at you insulting someone's "grammer" and not their "grammar" (or more appropriately, their spelling).

  • Soooooo GOOOOOOOOOOD!

  • great band... dont care for the drummer tho very blah

  • @Mirthfull same drummer that formed foo fighters along with the bass player and dave grohl. he is a great drummer, you just have to hear more of his stuff. or then again you may still not like his style, to each his own.

  • @CountStoczkowski yeah i admit i havent heard much of his stuff outside of this band and the foofighters. I think its fucked up that Dave Grohl rerecorded all of his drums. He left the band after that i think. Has he done anything since then?

  • @Mirthfull it sounds like william was a perfectly good enough drummer

  • who cares if you think bands sound a like -_-

I LOVE THIS SONG! SO BUGGERR OFF!!

  • Good voice, melodious, haunting etc etc...all goods things but that still won't cover up the fact that they sound like a mix of Blink 182, Smashin Pumpkins and whole lot of others.

  • @kalfrain actually it's the opposite. those bands sound like them

  • @synkciu ---I look like my mother ...my mother doesn't look like me. A new band can sound like an older band not the other way around. But it's cool I can see you're a big fan...

  • @kalfrain you realize blink 182, SDRE, and Smashing Pumpkins all came out at roughly the same time? SDRE and Blink were both started in 1992, and both released debut records in 94. Smashing Pumpkins released their debut in 91...so it seems to me that these 3 bands were probably working separately considering they all got big at roughly the same times, and therefore were not influenced by/copying off each other

  • @superdude019 dude, those are all my favorite bands.

  • @kalfrain your stupid

  • @FOXHOUNDSTRIKER92

    @kalfrain

Firstly it is......You're stupid not Your stupid....you need to brush up on that english grammer as well as give a reasonable argument as to why you think I'm stupid instead of resorting to name calling...or did you not come out of that neanderthal cave yet FOXHOUNDSTRIKER91?

  • @kalfrain you're an idiot.

  • @josephmarshall ...Mr. Marshall, How enlightening...such pearls of wisdom. You don't know me well enough to determine that I am an idiot. If you don't like my comments there are other ways of responding to them OR you may join the list of neanderthals...you know the ones who can only curse or resort to abusive language.

  • @kalfrain Yeah sorry dude, I should have said you're ignorant. My mistake.

  • @josephmarshall You gotta find something to do with your time...go find a closet, a wall or a tree...something that won't talk back. Dude?? NOT! Dudess maybe...if there is such a thing. Now stop with your kiddie comments or you'll have to go sit in the corner or wash your mouth out with soap...no, not soap...lye. I will not be responding to any of your comments...I know you'll be disappointed but...sorry...over and out!

  • @kalfrain You are the king of the trololots.

  • @kalfrain That was a great observation, both of those bands were influenced by Sunny Day Real Estate, so it would make sense that they sound a like, I really enjoy Sunny Day Real Estate and its interesting to listen to bands that were influenced by them, and make the connection, also interesting to find Sunny Day Real Estate's influences and do the same thing, music really is a wonderful thing :)

  • Jeremy Enigk's voice is one of the best.

  • i think that all music sucks. i don't like it. this song is cool though

  • My opinion is 70, 80s, 90s and early 2000s..but everyone does have their own tastes, and I respect that.

  • @1970JHendrix Maybe for you, I personally can't stand the 60s. The 90s and 2000s were best imo.

  • their best album ever.

  • très belle voix qui donne à ce rock à la fois une tristesse et une énergie

  • I've always known this band existed but this is the first time i ever actually bothered listening to them. great music. worth buying an album. which should i get? Start with the first?

  • @nwhitey10 If i could recommend one, its definitely "Diary".

  • I love this style of music from the early 90s. Man I wish it would return!

  • Okay. so is SDRE releasing a new album or is that just rumor?

  • Hipster cat doubts all you haters credit

  • Boooring

  • @PACHPACK2 No you

  • i love this song (and this album) but GOD, that drummer is so shitty. ..... i really wish it were played better...

  • Second wave emo was so awesome.

  • i heard this band for the first time yesterday and thought this totally fits my taste :)

  • still such an amazing song from an amazing record.

  • the drummer kinda not really looks like tom delongue

  • @aragoth95 dont juged what u dont understand

  • @aragoth95 let me guess, you listen to pop :P

  • @ParaEatCambria I listen to heavy metal, not emo shit, tyvm kthxbai
