This scene is a demostration of the bandalism that all civialian in the wordl suffer all day by the shankys armed force. In this case the vietnam war. Fuckin americans..."Branwasheds".
@misterkill27 im glad my cousin killed 50 of ur communist pigs in north korea. he was in the special forces, the scariest mother fucker in the jungle and i really hope he killed even the innocent gook children and women there, we can only hope
@2plus2equalsu woah woah woah man my I was a soldier at the DMZ as a South Korean soldier, and my uncle served in Vietnam. I have a feeling that you don't even know what's going on in North Korea. They are being brainwashed. Gook offends North AND South Koreans. Please have some censorship
@Spiritualseeker2007 it was because america wanted to stop the spread of those terrible soviet apartment blocks they build all through the 60's and 70's. Herman Miller was actually part of the CIA and was the chief architect of the containment of the soviets in Vietnam. Without him, Ikea would never have been. We should all give thanks.
The Viet Cong were guerillas, using whatever they could get. It's not that easy to get RPGs, contrary to popular media. They're mostly using Norinco Type 56 rifles, with some grenades, flares, and a DSHK heavy machine gun.
@DesertEagleKiller you don't even know the real FBI all u see is how TV and new age hippies who need to grow up and get a life portray the FBI so what I'm saying is grow up and get a LIFE!
Let's go American boys, let's INVADE other nation just to show to the whole world that we are GOOD people who loves FREEDOM.
Japanese concentration camp? Yeah, let's make some!! but now, with vietnamites, because they're EVIL, WICKED and just want to free themselves from a moral-corrupted and injust nation called U.S.A.
it wasn't a real good war there offlineri I Corps 1970 in fact it was a rather shitty war. but then again, you were probably not even born in 1970 as the grand kids would say "Whatever" BTW, i was in a Marine Corps Helicopter Squadron and I NEVER saw any whit like what is portrayed here. but that might have been just my experiences.
my very best army friend was in the unit with that patch as seen in the movie. i have to ask him if that kind of a hat was worn in such circumstances. that said, i was not hating just commenting the Cav was a very fine unit with an impressive combat history. leastways back then out of USMC for 35 yrs
agreed. that's why firepower doesn't always win the war! there are lots of examples in history - you heard of Tito's partisans in Yugoslavia in the 2nd WW? war for independence in US also... but partisans have to display greater courage&sacrifice. their morale must be strong at all times, otherwise. there's no military power in the world that could defeat well organized partisan force!
Your question wasn't necessary, my friend - As a modelmaker, also like the history of warfare. The Titov's partisans were in fact a 800.000 army itself. Only thanks to the Italian Black Shirts and other Balkan nations who resented Communists (like Muslims from 'Handschar' division), the German could put more of their precious divisions to other fronts.
This scene is an excellent example of how modern war ends up with civilian casualties exceeding military. I use this in my military history classes to demonstrate the phenomenon. The fighting inevitable is drawn to centers of communication, namely towns. The safest method of attack involves surprise application of massive suppressive fire which renders timely evacuation of non-combatants impractical. Finally, one has to ask the question: who is the enemy? Soldiers or all CITIZENS who resist?
Yes. Those f****ing civilians who resist are the enemy. That's why they need to be brought down. Noone should resist, or even thinking of resisting. Am I right?
Oh, and killing civilians had nothing to do with our withdrawal from Vietnam. Killing civilians always works. It was those goddamn bleeding hearts back home that made us lose.
wtf r u talking about? there was no chance Us could ever win a war in Vietnam! morale was extremely low, as opposed to VC. I think you should watch this movie again. it's not real and all, but it perfectly describes the state of US army at the time.
Duvall taking a sip of coffee during the chaos of the attack was classic. He improvised that after the first rushes. It was not in John Milius' script.
well ya but see the thing is there are allot of old Vietnam movies and allot of them not this one but allot of them lack the realistic emotional experiences and allot definitely lack batlle realism movies like platoon have a point but its not exactly true this movie is for sure one of the better old ones though.

In fact, this is very strange...U.S.A is a democratic nation, but she acts a WAY different.
Being controlled by imoral politics and spied by the FBI or another agency everyday is freedom?
Being tortured by secret agencies is right?
Manipulate lifes like dolls is right?
Let a secret organization, like the Illuminati, fuck up your mind, and even KILL your president just for power and influence is right?
Money for lifes is right?
Please, i beg you, think about it...
Are you really free?

True also i might add Apocalypse Now is so much more than just a war film its hard to define what it really is, its kinda one of a kind
EFK1990 3 years ago
...which ones lacked realistic emotional experience?
Platoon? Hamburger Hill? Wasn't the whole point of those movies to focus in on the emotional experience?
Full Metal Jacket took more of a surreal approach to the genre, but was still better than any film produced this side of 2001.
