Cool demo! Thanks for sharing! Listen to that cheap keyboard... sounds like the battery-operated Casio I had when I was a kid, but I was a kid in the early 90s! The main riff is there. That's what made the song. Glimpse into something that evolved into greatness!
They weren't signed for this version. They rewrote and reworked the song into what would eventually become their signature song, "Take On Me". "Take On Me" was originally recorded in 1984, but that version of the song flopped horribly, but rather than rewriting it all over again, Warner Brothers Records took an interest in the boys and invested money in them, and A-ha started working with Alan Tarney, and the third version of the song is the one we have all come to know and love.
Sorry. I mean "had". I found it on a compilation of demos. I think it was called "Demos & Unreleased Tracks". Of course, it's not official, it's fan-made, but quite interesting 'cause it features demo versions from differente songs like "Train of Thought", "Touchy!", "The Swing of Things", etc. and very rare songs like "Telephone", "Something's Real" or "Nothing to It" (the song from the guys took the name of the band).
It IS a naughty word!!!! If you listen really really REALLY close Morten says, '...so here's a ____ing lesson'. Pal, Pal, Pal I am disgusted!! Lol only messing, but that was a swear word, I know it!
Pal you are a BRILLIANT lyricist and my favourite out of a-ha, but i swear, you must gotten poisined by those stolen plums when you wrote this! Just kidding, it's a great version, but why is Morten screaming at 0:42??? So glad you developed it into the treasure that it is today. J'aime tu!!!!
Wow, where did you find this? It's fascinating to be able to trace the evolution of a great song from this half-baked early version to the hugely successful classic pop record we know and love.
Lesson one for musicians everywhere: if you've got a mish-mash of wonderful ideas that aren't quite coming together as well as they could, stick with it, nurture it and you never know what it grow into.
Btw... at 1:05... is that a naughty word with the first syllable omitted? :-O
it sounds like they were not serious at all. It's like a joke... but good enough they made a difference which made it really sounds so good that it lasts until now.
Yeah, that is hilarious!!! But he did not have his pants down, so he just faked.... I love to see them joking like that!!! They are so much fun - and they also enjoy it!
0:42 now we know where little Britain got their infamous catchphrase from.

Good material, although bad-regular quality.
