  • 9th doctor looks like a binman? he's so cool.

  • I don't care if no one's called him, he's still part of the legacy. A HUGE part of the legacy. HE'S THE DOCTOR!!! And a seriously underrated version of the Doctor, too. People talk about Davison, and both Bakers, and Mccoy, and the really dedicated fans talk about Hartnell and Troughton, and EVERYONE talks about Eccleston and Smith and TENNANT (best Doctor EVER), but no one ever talks about McGann, and they SHOULD, because HE WAS AWESOME!!!

  • @Morality124 I read it on a website or something, something about TimeLords. Either its bull, or true. And 9s costume was lame. A Leather jacket and pants. Yippe.

  • yeah u done doctor who audio plays for radio don't lie paul!!

  • The reason Chris had short hair, after a timelord dies, they mourn by shavin their hair have an inch from their head. Eccleston was mourning the Timewar and all his people. Paul mcgann rocks!

  • @IAM907yearsold And you heard this where?

  • Somebody get this guy a wig!

  • He was amazing in the Doctor Who movie

  • I would really like to see what happened to make the 9th Doctor so... dark. Eccelston may have been my least favorite Doctor, but I would certainly want to see what happened to him in his previous incarnation that shifted his psyche so much.

  • LOL! "It's all about the hair." He's right, really. I don't think the fans were ready for the military look when the film was made, but a lot of people didn't like the movie anyway, so what would have been the harm? Well, to be fair, I guess that's clear when you're looking backward. But he still looks great, doesn't he? I had figured if they had him back on for one of those overlap episodes or the like he'd look bad by now, but he doesn't at all! I hope they come up with something.

  • Timewar series FTW! I would love a season or two that comes back to this guy and shows the events leading to #9. I liked him in the movie, I liked his Tardis (alot more than the new ones) and I like the story he is involved in. (the timewar) Bringing him back has epic badass written all over it. I really hope they address it somehow. The series deserves to be bridged, the loyal fans deserve to see it, and McGann deserves more air time as the doctor. It would definitely sell.

  • Paul McGann is SO freakin' HOT!!! If only he had been kept as the Doctor instead of Christopher Eccleston, who was OK, but resoundingly ordinary.

  • @Nemesis7293 Ordinary? Eccleston gave Doctor Who the shot in the arm it desperately needed. He's an underrated Doctor. Frankly, I love all of them. Each Doctor brings a different spin on the part, and each is fantastic.

  • @TulseLuper

Agreed. He's tied for my favorite.

  • @TulseLuper You love all of them, huh? Even Colin Baker?

  • @Forthelemon What's wrong with Colin Baker? I've never understood the derision for his Doctor. Both he and McCoy were badly served by the material, by a BBC that was trying to sabotage Doctor Who for years. Eventually, they succeeded, of course.

  • @TulseLuper Might have been something to do with Six being an ass who dressed badly.

  • @ReverendSyn Colin Baker wasn't the costume designer, nor did he write any of his scripts. I thought he did a fine job with what he had.

  • @TulseLuper I thought you were talking about the character.

I have no problem with Colin personally. Hell, Id say bring him back to voice Six in an animated feature

  • @ReverendSyn A misunderstanding then. Anyway, I didn't mind those things so much. I liked his irascibility, I thought it was a nice change following from Peter Davison (Also a good Doctor.) It's a matter of personal taste but I think an argument can be made in support of all 11 Doctors.

  • Many of the details of a Time War mini-series are already in place. Such a series would offer a real treat for fans who would like to see the old and new DW's bridged finally. Of particular interest would be the story of the descent of the Time Lords from autocracy to despotism. Paul McGann seems ready to be cast as something other than a dandy - he could convincingly carry off a transition to cold-blooded warrior defending the multiverse from the depredations af the Dalek-Time Lord nihilism.

  • A Time War film (or even Trilogy or short 5-episode-series) would be totally great.

Or, now that Sarah Jane Adventures are over, Doctor Who "missing years" with the 8th doctor could be the new childrens tv-show.

  • kay paul was a great dr but the movie mest things up a little yeah i liked the film but it mest it up

  • a multi doctor story with the 11th and 8th would kick ass.

or a interequal the Time war is pretty much glanced over in the TV series I would love to see a series that bridges the movie and TV series (ending with the 8th doctor regenerating in the 9th.)

  • A funny thing... When asked if they would return for the 50th anniversary... Every single doctor has been vague in their answers...

  • @JamHam64 I wish Eccleston would be vague... it would give me more hope than the interviews I've heard where he flat out says no way, no how.

  • @almatric Apart from him. Eccleston seems to have turned his back on the show for good.

  • "Looked like a bin man". LOL

  • love how he calls him "little matt smith"

  • What would be cool is having guys who have never done a teamup (That would be McCoyt though Eccleston and Smith) do a team up at least. Tennant should be included, since "Timecrash" was only a little 10 minute thing.

  • Of course, I'm not saying that he couldn't pull it off anymore, because he still is the same person and actor. Yet at the same time, it would be a bit more difficult as the years go on to explain how he matured so much since.

  • @Googlagahummike He hasn't stopped playing the eighth doctor in 10 years. He still plays the eighth doctor as part of the Big Finish Audio Dramas. I definitely think with the effects of the time war he could have it explained how he's aged, especially since there's no regeneration to say "THIS is hot he looked when he died"

  • @MatthewSychantha Yeah which makes me think it's worth taking his comments in this vid, and other places, with a pinch of salt, he's seems to have a lot of fun with his position as the Doctor who has so little screen time. :)

  • I really hope Paul is brought back again in some way. We probably won't ever see his regeneration into Eccleston because Chris has no desire to do Doctor Who again, but if he were brought back, perhaps as a flashback to the Time War, that would be awesome. There have been rumors circulating recently that he will return in Series 7, but they're just that. Rumors. Regardless, I'm crossing my fingers that they will see that they need to bring him back while he can still pull off playing Doctor.

  • ya know i never really saw the eighth doctor regenerate

  • i know people say Ecclestone doesn't want to come back, but in an interview for the 50 yrs of DW, he said it depends what he is signing for, i.e. for charity or for profit. so its possible if an "8/11 Doctors" episode is for charity, Ecclestone may reappear.

  • @InhabitantOfOddworld He meant signing stuff such as memorabilia for charity, not signing for shows... he clearly said in that interview he'll never come back.

  • Comment removed

  • But the whole reason Russell chose not to regenerate Paul McGann is because to introduce him at the beginning of the episode and then kill him would have been pointless, as it's a character we don't know very well. But, I'm sure we'll see it eventually, maybe a short Children in Need special?

  • @Gallifrey103 That is a fair point, it would be ridiculous to bring back and kill off a character, but I can understand why McGann would be peeved that he never was even asked. RTD also vetoed an idea to show the regeneration in the last episode of the DWM Strip, "The Flood". I think we'll either see or find out how he regenerates for the 50th Anniversary, or in one of the many audio stories McGann does? I hope we do see it or hear it in some form though, one day :D

  • @Trayusstudent1 Hopefully, we'll see a Children in Need special where we can see the regeneration scene. Maybe not the cause, but perhaps the actual regeneration itself...

  • Agreed they should have used Paul to bring back Doctor Who. f your reading this Paul they short changed you. You have so much potential. I would really like to see you back for a Four Doctors or something.

  • As much as I liked Eccelston he has made no secret of not being that interested in the show outside the little that he did.

In retrospect it would have been better to have Paul in Chris outfit with Chris's backstory. It was a real dick move just to skip him altogether.

  • ecclestone has announce he absolutely doesnt wanna come back

  • He had sooo much potentional!!

  • Thumbs up if you would like to see all of the living actors who have played the Doctor (that includes Paul McGann) on the 50th anniversary special!!! :)

  • @drwhotimelordify Hell yeah

  • @zzzombie888 They really should. Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul MacGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith together on the big screen. They should put them all in a MOVIE. Oh, that would REALLY get the ratings for Dr. Who up! Think of all the wackiness and brilliance 8 Doctors can create! :D

  • @drwhotimelordify what about all 11 doctors

  • @MrSlashblaster Oh, I see your point there. Well, I guess they COULD reel in three more actors for William Hartnell's, Patrick Troughton's, and Jon Pertwee's roles. It wouldn't feel right to me though, and probably to a lot of another people, seeing completely different actors playing the role like that. I don't know, to be perfectly honest. I wish those three were still alive, those wonderful chaps. You gotta' love the Grumpy Grandpa, Cosmic Hobo, and Karate Master all very much indeed! :)

  • @drwhotimelordify most of them are too old now.

  • I loved the movie SO much! He was the best thing in it, in my opinion. They should've made episodes out of some of the Eight Doctor novels, I think. Heaven knows why the BBC didn't! I bet he feels cheated, not starring in multiple episodes like the all the other 10 have. I would feel kind of wronged if I were him. I agree with keriandjesse69, they SHOULD make a movie about the Time War. How awesome would THAT be?! I would so totally watch that! Poor guy, I feel sorry for him. =.(

  • They should make a movie about the Time War and have Paul Mcgann in it!

  • "The BBC never phoned me".... >:(

  • "Little Matt Smith"? I'm not even sure what Mcgann could have meant here. Is Matt Smith short? No; I'd bet he's taller than Mcgann. Young? 29; he's obviously younger than Mcgann but he's no child.

Sorry, and I'm sure you didn't mean it, but that bit made you sound like a bitter prick, Mcgann.

  • Is he saying 'Let's explore the Doctor's inner Bin-man'? haha XD

  • He reminded me of the 6th Doctor.

Not in their personalities, of course. They're the exact opposites of eachother.

But each actor gave their best. They commited themselves 100% to the role they were given, and were able to turn it into something watchable. Despite their script being rather poor.

  • I AGREE 100% WITH THE 2 TOP COMMENTS YES HE SHOULD RETURN 4 THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY ECCLESTON WON T AND HE WAS A GOOD DR AND THE MOVIE DID SUCK BADLY CAUSE THE YANKS ALWAYS TRY 2 TAKE THINGS LIKE DR WHO STEPTOE AND SON AND OTHERS AND REALLY SCREW THEM UP, U CAN T BEAT THE ORIGINALS AND ALSO MAYBE WE CAN LEARN A BIT MORE OF THE TIME WAR? DAVID SAID HE D RETURN 4 THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY I SAY THIS DR S NO 6 8 10 &11 THE 4 DOCTORS IF CHRIS WONT DO DR WHO AGAIN (HE AIN T DONE MUCH SINCE HAS HE)?? BRING IT

  • @299storm Fix your caps lock and use punctuation, it's really hard to read your comment and take it seriously.

  • @299storm excuse me your majesty

  • @299storm Caps Lock!

BRING IT

  • It would be good to see a storyline about the time war, either in a movie or a series finale or something, to fill in the gap, I think most Dr Who fans would like to see that. And I think @felipe0mange is right, it wasn't Paul's fault that the movie was so utterly cheesey. I personally would like to see the current Doctor (atm Matt Smith) attempt to re-enter the time war to try and save Galifrey, and maybe include seeing the 8-9th Doctors in the same story.

  • Paul McGann needs to do a regeneration episode, so we see why and how he regenerates.

  • the 50th anniversary should have doctor 7,8,9,10 and 11 that would be cool

  • @tkearton15 That would have to be a pretty long special, I think just 7, 8 and 11 would be enough since we don't really want to loose to much focus on each Doctor and with 5 on screen at once that would be pretty difficult.

  • A Time War miniseries with McGann would not be bad at all!

  • little matt smith?

  • lool did he very briefly say that eccleston looks like a bin man in the middle of a scentence?

  • I want to see the regeneration! Seriously!

  • Rather see Tom Baker return as the Doctor first and foremost.

  • A wig, his old costume and not even that much make-up, and he could return to the show... just for a little bit.

  • Paul Mcgann rocks.

One of the best Dr's , at least in audio drams anyway.

  • I can tell this dude wants to go back to doctor who.

Personally I haven't seen him at all but I do hope he returns, I want to see him play the doctor with Smith and (hopefully) Tennant

  • i hope he returns for a crossover in 2013 with david tennant, christopher eccleston(dout it), and matt smith, and if tom baker is up for it, then lets get the show going, cause hes to only earliest doctor still alive

  • @kylephantom4

    and sylv peter and colin

  • I like Paul McGann! I like his own hair, too. Of course, if the fantastic ever happened and they rang him up, I'm SURE hair isn't going to be an issue. :3 So was this before the audio adventures then? Or are they not directly associated with the BBC?

  • Wow, he looks nothing like he did in 1996

Barely recognize him even by his facial structures

  • He's on drugs, gurning away and manic.

  • @petarphyle How dare you! I know him and he is a perfectly nice guy, so leave him alone and get some facts before you go around saying stuff like that.

  • @ShatteredxSpiritx

Stand down from Def Con 1 babes, I was only making an observation.

Are you about to have the Painters & decorators in ?

  • @petarphyle

No, he is not. Please get your facts straight.

And considering it has been 26 years since he starred in "Withnail And I" I think he

looks pretty damn FINE..he really doesn't look that much different now than he did then.

  • The movie was pretty badly written, but McGann made a brilliant Doctor. I wish we could have seen more of him. Maybe one day we'll get our last great time war movie!

  • It's funny, America made Doctor Who a high speed chase, with a Grand Theft Auto effect.

  • @Pizzaboyzmvp Well, FOX did that. The same channel that brings you reality TV. So whose expectations could really have been so high? Aww, we miss Paul McGann!

  • Hell! I've got frikken hair! Give ME the key to to Tardis!!!

  • Bring back Eight and put him with Charley for the 50th anniversary!

  • @XxCarlieCullenxX Or even better...A TIME WAR MOVIE!!!!!

  • @Drwhofanindatardis how about this then? youtube.com/watch?v=UILzDdOnU_U

  • Paul McGann should have been given a chance for the new series... I mean Eccleston was great but I think Paul could have been a fantastic fantastic Doctor with decent scripts... The perfect mix of endearing insanity, commanding presence and humor.

  • @Lee86Cr I think you're right, but i also think it would have been far to risky for the bbc, after all, the film didnt get a great response.

  • @Lee86Cr i deeply agree

  • Paul McGann was the best Doctor. The Eighth Doctor Adventures and the Big Finish Productions series are awesome.

  • A great Doctor, and indeed one of my favorites, who fell victim to that terrible 'movie'.

The fact McGann didn't get a British made series is criminal, what a shame.

  • it was like when he was talking about doctor who he was really sad about it just look at his eyes

  • It'd be interesting to see a tv movie where they explore the last great time war with the eighth doctor

  • Moffat, get on the phone to McGann!!! He needs another stint as the Doctor! The movie wasn't enough!

  • Wow, he's quite good looking! I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have it on my Netflix queue.

  • he has a lovely smile :)

  • Paul McGann was excellent as the Doctor. The 8th Doctor got short changed. Hope he makes a comeback to the tv series.

  • I like the beginning of the movie, I like Paul's early scenes. He proved to be a wonderful doctor. I'm glad he's "official", and I'm sad that the movie is the only way to recognize him as Doctor Who. He really needs another shot somehow.

  • Moffat should make a plot arc detailing the Time War in more detail and have two doctors, the 11th and 8th, somehow.

  • @bandofbrothersmovie

Moffat has stated that he will not show the Time War on-screen, claiming there isn't enough money in the world to show it AND do it justice.

  • @TheEndlessWarlock Fair enough. At least I still got the River Song arc to look forward too. Any bits of enough on if she will be a full-fledged companion in the future?

  • @bandofbrothersmovie

No, but if I did, I wouldn't share them publicly. Some people value the surprise of the plot twists.

However, if you have something to share with me, please PM them to me.

  • @TheEndlessWarlock I got nothing. But if I ever do come across legit info, I will :)

  • They should get him to do a film series of the Time War and he regenerates in to the Ninth Doctor at the end

  • @Whacko23

Moffat has stated that he will not show the Time War on-screen, claiming there isn't enough money in the world to show it AND do it justice.

  • Steven Moffat RING HIM UP!!

  • I find it really really annoying that they cut it after one movie, I mean it's not like other series's had terrible movies and still continued on to make more Seasons. It's also kinda silly that they don't even try to give him a chance as the Doctor for at least one season, then the word would've been complete.

  • Is it just me or does Paul McGann and Christopher Eccelston look similar

  • @DrLeonardBonesMcCoy They have the same eyes but the mouth to McGann is square and eccleston has a straight chin

  • @drwhomasterfan They have a longish nose

  • Just one episode, that's the least I ask of you BBC!

  • Should do another movie about the time war with him

  • They could have at least made a couple of movie sequels for him. Look at Police Academy! That had way WAY too many.

  • he was a good doctor, but the movie script sucked so bad...

  • @felipe0mange audios of his are the best of all bf

  • @felipe0mange it was more like a bad redo of "Time After Time" lol but you could plug his doctor into the series and he would have been good I think.

  • @phantom12321 exactly.

  • @felipe0mange, the trouble is, it was a hit in the UK, but it didn't sell in the US, which is the reason why bbc didn't continue, but all theses storys about the great time war, this is suppose to be Paul Mcgann doctor that was involved, where he dies and turns into the 9th doctor, but I don't know if the bbc will ever approve of this.

  • @felipe0mange My thoughts exactly.

  • Yeah i agree but!!!, The script was 79% Good!

  • I didn't like him too much.

  • He should return for the 50th anniversary

  • @ytmndman The TV movie wasn't *that* bad it was ok. I think McGann helped make up for some of It's short comings as did his chemistry with Daphnae Ashbrook (who was gorgeous I might add). That said I am glad it never went to series as it really should stick with the BBC as eventually the American studios would have killed it. The best thing overall had to be the inside of the TARDIS. It looked amazing!

  • @ytmndman I'd love for the 50th to have 8th through 11th Doctors getting into shinanegans. Maybe throw The Master in.

  • @ytmndman have a look at this then;

    youtube.com/watch?v=UILzDdOnU_U

  • @ytmndman i think it would be cool for him to come back but i think for the 50th anniversary they should bring the timelords back or the master

  • He and his other actor brothers are very talented.

I am surprised that the BBc hasnt even approached him to see if he would be interested but then the BBC is kind of infamous for missing opportunities and spectacular home goals. Fingers crossed they will do a cross over... eventually.

  • What is banging around in the background? Someone doing the dishes?

  • LOL! "Little Matt Smith". HAHA. Great interview. He seems rather eccentric. I think he makes a marvelous Doctor and looks like an Adonis so handsome. They really need to bring him back at least to explain the 8 to 9 regeneration and Time War.

  • I think it would be interesting to have McGann's Doctor be a pathological liar. The reason this would be a great idea is that it would easily get rid of the "I'm Half Human" nonsense.

  • @mrbobbyh Yeah, that half human thing bugs me. I've tried rationalizing it to myself. Maybe his doctor is half human because the regeneration got screwed up from the anesthetic. What was the crap about him being able to change species when he regenerates too? "Hmm... I think I'll regenerate into a platypus this time."

  • @fireyf ok. so in the comic "the forgotten" the doctor explains that he tricked the master into thinking he was human. and also the only way a timelord can change species is with the chameleon arc which is linked to their fob watch.

  • @JugglinJuggaloJuggla I know the chameleon arc thing from season 3 but in the movie I remember him saying he can change species when he regenerates. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong.

  • @fireyf who knows. that movie was all kinds of continuity raping mess. Dont get me wrong i love the 8th Doctor but that sucked as a who movie

  • @fireyf The Time Lords are a species within themselves I think. It's not like they take human forms randomly.. Like The Doctor said! "No, you look Time Lord.. We came first" (;

  • Maybe they could do a series based around the Time Wars starring Paul

  • ANOTHER two doctors episode with Matt Smith,THAT WOULD BE BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry for yelling :)

  • THEY'VE GOT TO DO THE REGENERATION.

It's mandatory. I don't care how they do it - flashback, multiple-Doctor episode, whatever - they HAVE to do it.

  • shame he didn't get a proper chance on tv, one movie isn't a proper chance to make the character your ownin a role where it so often changes... the audios are good. id like to see his character properly developed in a tv appearance, possibly for the 50th annversary in 2013 as a special. that wud be awesome.

  • @drwhotrainfan yh, in Doctor who he was wearing a wig

  • I think Mcgann was amazing as the Doctor and I'm gutted that Russel T didnt wrangle him for that first series of his - it would've been incredible - one of the best...'his inner bin man' - pure gold

  • he had a great doctor look, but lacked the mercurial, eccentric personality. But I'd like to see him guest in an episode to see some kind of continuity.

  • IMO, a golden opportunity was wasted in The End of Time. Paul McGann should have been part of that production; more specifically, we should have seen him on Gallifrey, doing whatever Eight did to end the Last Time War. McGann and Tennant wouldn't have had to cross paths, and it would have given McGann the opportunity to play the Doctor as an older, tougher, war-weary version of the character.

Considering how much padding went into End of Time, it would have made a nice improvement.

  • Wow! Paul is really charming, and I think he even looks better here than in the Doctor Who TV movie. I would love to see him in a movie about the Time War. But yeah, it's clear from Eccleston interviews that he hated being the Doctor.

  • I think there's a potentially interesting story if they bring Paul McGann back. The Eighth Doctor started off wide-eyed and innocent, and we see how he becomes darker and hardened as the Time War goes on. And then this would explain his personality when he regenerates into the Ninth Doctor. It could really be HIS story, about how someone with so much optimism can have it beaten out of them by the horrors of war.

  • @JamesOhGoodie Well if they bother contacting Paul when they decided to return the series then the producers managment or whoever have alot to answer for. That's a disgrace. Paul McGann was brilliant as the Dr, he fitted the Edwardian appearance well and the fact they wasted a whole regeneration on one bloody movie then changed actor was a waste. Then to add insult to injury the guy they get in to start as the new Dr only does one fucking series so two regenerations wasted in barely a series

  • @bluejeckett least he dose audio stories

  • "Little Matt Smith". Heh.

  • @bravogolfhotel hahah yeah i laughed at that too

  • Qualifiactions for being The Doctor: Hair

    "It's a hair job!"

  • Qualifiactions for being The Doctor: Hair

    "It's a hair job!"

  • HE'S 50?!? Jesus Christ, he looks amazing! That's un-fucking-believable!

  • @AnemicChia Oh yeah. He still looks as imnpossibly sexy as he did back then

  • Apparently Colin baker got fired from being the doctor! :O which is why when the BBC filmed his regeneration into sylvester McCoy the end of Colin bakers last episode they used him. But at the start of sylvester McCoys episode they used an extra!

  • @KRHIRCIHSATRODS No it wasn't an extra, it was just Sylvester McCoy with a wig on. Colin Baker refused to return to film his regeneration scene, Which even if I got fired from the job i wouldn't do, it's like THE thing you have to do as a Doctor

  • @RandomShinigami7 @TorterraMan3000 It's called sarcasm, dude.

  • They seriously need to bring Mcgann back! He only got to be the Doctor for one movie! They should just do another Two Doctors type thing or just a special episode set during the Time War!

  • @blackphoenix77 Something like the movie Star Trek: Generations - but with two Doctors instead of Captains. :)

  • Moffat isn't a very talented Who-writer. I would hate to hear Mcgann say lines that Moffar had written. Haven't any of you seen Timecrash? Moffat is very good at making the doctor sound like an idiot. If the 8th Doctor returns it should involve the doctor waking up from a horrible nightmare, where he regenerated into 3 bad actors and then Doctor Who could continue where it left off. As Moffat always said: 'Time can be rewritten.'

  • All I'm saying is: 50th Anniversary Special.

    Come on Moffat, please! ^_^

  • @RandomShinigami7 What are they going to do? "The 11 Doctors"?

  • @Geekout1 No.

But he could bring back on or two...

Maybe the 8th and 9th need to help with the 11t? Or something. It's just a theory. I doubt Moffat is going to be looking around youtube and say "That RandomShinigami7 has a good idea!".
