@wbcjohnlennon understandable. Atleast here when people say stuff its not all hatefull and people have a brain they use. Yes ok i could see why its the most least fun. So what are you doing here may I ask? YouTube is big enough for all of us my friend. At least I appreciate your honesty mate, fresh change from all the haters going around.
Here is something i realized. These people Beethoven,Mozart, they will always be remembered through the history of music. Stupid modern music like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber will soon be forgot and replaced by something new. People now a days cannot learn how to actually appreciate music rather than just moving on from one music to another. People should learn how to appreciate one type of music.
One shouldn't have favorites with movements. They're all of one piece; you take one away and you lose the work's power. The 2nd movement might be "slight" if compared to the first and third, but it's equally as important for the Moonlight.
I came here straight from a Whacka Flocka thing that my friend made me listen to. I don't think I can describe it. Maybe ice on a wound? Times infinity?
@Acts123456789 So what? I have been playing since I was four, but if you don't have videos of yourself; only you yourself care about your accomplishment, now people just get annoyed (I don't, but a LOT of people do) by it.
If you upload some videos and contact me, I'll be sure to check them out though! :)
@Acts123456789 did they also abstain from the graduation exam for you like they did for wilhelm kempff at the berliner musikhochschule if you are such a brilliant pianist as you claim, as you "can play this as well as he can?"
@Acts123456789 This person(Wilhelm Kempff) deserved being applouded after all the years he had been playing. So, play the piano, get highly respected by the mass audience and one day, there`s a chance that we`ll be clapping to your performance. :)
Can all of you stop mentioning Justin Bieber! Can I go any futsin video that doesn't mention Bieber all the damn time!! FUCK!!! Go spam about Bieber on 4chan or something.. -______________-
@estarielevenstar Why wouldn't that be music? Just because you seem to have a purely biased and downright idiotic hatred for a celebrity artist, doesn't give you reason to discredit his work.
@N2Lucky If you are familiar with any technical terms in music you may realise that most of his songs are purely one progression of five chords repeated multiple times. His music is purely noise compared to beethoven and other famous artists of the past.
Although this is personally my least favorite of the three movements of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, and although I usually don't really like to listen to it, when it is played with this amount of skill and grace, and when it is played with the amount of passion Kempff pours into this piece, I really enjoy it. That's how good he is.
@MrSeanannersftw this man is a genius. with both parkinsons and alzheimers. AND can play this with what sounds like easy. if i can be 1 100th as good as him at some point in my life id be happy
@MrSeanannersftw Saying you don't like this movement is like saying you don't like the final movement of Hammerklavier. This is Beethoven being himself, being himself very well.
@MrSeanannersftw It's strange that I was browsing the blog entries to see if there was anyone else, like me, who loved this very movement even more than the other two. Anyhow, tastes differ. Best wishes !!
@MrSeanannersftw I agree. I like the 3rd movement though. but without the 2nd movement. The whole Moonlight Sonata would not be as epic as it was to be! :DD Keep listening to this music my brethren for we are the only ones who love what true music is!
If you just look at his mouth, it makes a frown. Somehow, even though his face resembles this :( , you can still tell he's smiling in his heart. Amazing.
Sólamente a una persona sorda no puede gustarle esto. A 50 personas no les gusta ??? Creo que no eran personas, teniendo sentimientos y oidos es suficiente para que esta sonata sea impactante y hermosa...
Thanks for posting this. This movement is not as popular. This Sonata has been played to death, unfortunately. I'm been trying to play the 1st movement for 20 years. This guy is awesome. When he plays, he takes you somewhere. Everyone should listen to the entire performance. Masterful.
well i haven't played piano but this music is true beauty! i've heard the 1st & 3rd mvt of this sonata (which is probably one of most famous of Beethoven, alongside with Fur Elise), but managed to go past this one %). truly great music!
Arthur Rubinstein once said that a live performance had to be something lively, something vivid. Thus mistakes may occur, but they dampen the listening experience in no way. It goes to show that perfection is not always the answer to a perfect performance.
I'm 17 and on Grade 8 piano. It is my dream to play all of Beethoven's Sonatas before i die! I study with John O'Conor (search you tube for John O Conor Beethoven Bootcamp) he is a concert pianist and gives a wonderful masterclass here on you tube! Check it out and tell me what you think! :)
@arnihockey do the math: x-a-b=my comment, where x=number of views, a=likes, b=dislikes, (I'm sure the numbers have changed since I made that comment...)
This is one of the few performances of this movement that I have heard that does NOT make me want to gouge my eyes out. This is played lightly and with liveliness - exactly what the music calls for. He could have used a little more rubato, but otherwise a very enjoyable performance.
@xxyx88 What does being able to play the piano have to do with appreciating Beethoven, I can't play the piano but I love classical music. What are you implying?
@xxyx88 What you said means nothing, I can't play any instrument, not even the triangle, and I like this sonata... Don't need to know about music to like it... Same thing for cinema, or any art
Wow so much ppl are trying to find mistakes in his playing cause they are just jealous but he is awsome playing at such age, such piece AND WITHOUT SHEETS....he must be music god =D
@star123753 Lol, you know you don't need the sheet to play music. You need sheets only to learn it. If you need the sheet when you play pieces you 've learned, then there is a problem.
@taghazog no you didnt get what i mean that he is old and he have amazing memory i meant this LOL i dont play with sheets after i learn piece too XD....dont worry about me...NO PROBLEMS, HAPPY LIFE ^_^ "
Such a delightful change from the first movement. Then descending into frustration and ferocity in the third. Moonlight is genius. I wonder what Beethoven's composing process was with this. Did he spend a lot of time working on it or did it flow simply as his mood let it. Either way, genius.
@jointz999 at the time he was going deaf, eventually he had to be turned around at a concert to see that the audience was clapping, for not hearing them he started to cry.
If you can play as well as Wilhelm Kempff, then maybe you can complain about a few small mistakes, but if not, it's the pot calling the kettle black. I think that his renditions of all three movements are amazing! If I can ever play them like him, I would be content to play nothing else.
The best interpretation on here, hand's down. I don't care what you say this guy is a musical genius!!! I will not reply or indulge in informal comments. If you don't think this is great then you need to study up on music (In all of it's aspects) and then learn how to play it. If you can bring to light all of its perfections with your imperfections ... then you are still not as great as this man. And if you think otherwise... send me the link because I truly want to be proven wrong.
Kempff didn't make any major mistakes. He had his own way of interpreting things, and that wasn't always the way the music was written, nor was it like anybody else performed it. If you listen to his other performances of the same work, you may be surprised to hear the same "mistakes". Artur Schnabel was somewhat the same way, as was Glenn Gould.
As good as Maestro Kempff was, few people quibbled about the supposed errors. There doesn't seem to be a good reason to do so today, either.
OK people, forget your criticisms - all I can tell you is that it is almost impossible for me to listen to this (and watch him) with a dry eye. Isn't that what it is all about? How the performance of the piece affects the listener? Well, if that's true, then there is NO way that any criticism of this will ever make an impression on me!
He puts his emotion into it, and you can tell. I'm not a musician, just someone who loves playing piano, so I guess I wouldn't really know...but just listening to it, I can somehow tell.
Please note that the man playing was at the age of 75. Some poeple were saying there was a mistake or two during his play. Of course the guy is playing without music sheet, he's playing with his heart and not like a machine and if I can still have that level of dexterity by the age of 75, then I will concider myself a super hero. Stop being jalous and instead of focusing on 1 bad note, please listen the 3121 other notes (no I didnt count). Grow up poeple, for you own sake.
@xDyonx or he can just hear it's sounds, you know those people that can hear one song and then play it without notes or anything, man I would love to have that gift!
@xDyonx well that is muscle memory, and if you didn't have that... you'd be a pretty bad musician.
But at the same time, music without expression is like breathing without air. And in typical youtube style... I'd like you to stop being a keyboard warrior and post a video reply!
@Davetheplugg jealous people have a target, to be like him, or to have what he has or had in his life. These people are simply idiots....... he is not only perfect, he also has no mistakes.......
@Davetheplugg rly? I have found no other version played by a human on youtube, that was this good. Kempff is the only one capable of playing Beethoven's stuff at the moment (feel free to correct me here). People underestimate the difficulty. Kempff's 3rd movement is awesome!
Yeah, you have my thumb up. You can have both my thumbs, too.
@Davetheplugg You could use a spelling lesson but I definitely agree with what you said nonetheless. Some people just can't sit back and appreciate beautiful music.
Wish it was in HD Quality! That makes the sound better.
Amazing!

Quien puede ser por dios el inadaptado social o el suficientemente descerebrado como para ponerle votos negativos?

OK people, forget your criticisms - all I can tell you is that it is almost impossible for me to listen to this (and watch him) with a dry eye. Isn't that what it is all about? How the performance of the piece affects the listener? Well, if that's true, then there is NO way that any criticism of this will ever make an impression on me!

48 ppl were so amazed by this performance especially at this age that they clicked on the dislike button

As a classically trained piano player, I appreciate the poster's name. I guess most don't get it.

Lots of spirited debate going on in here... well, I'm instrumentally retarded & wouldn't know an allegro from a bar of soap, but I know what I like.
And I like ALL of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 14. (hits 'thumbs up' button for this video)
DoggTheFrickFrack 1 year ago

Please, thumbs up!

@Davetheplugg theres no playing with heart... thats bullcrap. when u play a song enough times you remember the movements of the fingers blindly.
xDyonx 1 year ago
@xDyonx or he can just hear it's sounds, you know those people that can hear one song and then play it without notes or anything, man I would love to have that gift!
sweden360 1 year ago
@xDyonx well that is muscle memory, and if you didn't have that... you'd be a pretty bad musician.
But at the same time, music without expression is like breathing without air. And in typical youtube style... I'd like you to stop being a keyboard warrior and post a video reply!

Thank you for putting, apparently uneducated, people straight. Could´n have said it better.
indaba1234 10 months ago
@Davetheplugg rly? I have found no other version played by a human on youtube, that was this good. Kempff is the only one capable of playing Beethoven's stuff at the moment (feel free to correct me here). People underestimate the difficulty. Kempff's 3rd movement is awesome!
Yeah, you have my thumb up. You can have both my thumbs, too.

@Davetheplugg You could use a spelling lesson but I definitely agree with what you said nonetheless. Some people just can't sit back and appreciate beautiful music.
