Everybody needs to be careful uploading these videos. I had an entire playlist of music that got taken off for copyright. EMI took it off. Beware everybody!
Such clarity of sound even if the quality is of an old recording. Not many pianists today, with all the modern recording and broadcasting technique, can do the same.
I am a professional musician who has listened to thousands of recordings and live performances of some of the greatest pianists in history, and I can honestly say that Dinu Lipatti was probably the greatest pianist/musician who ever lived. His astounding technical mastery never drew attention to itself but was always in the service of the music, always put to use in the most simple, noble, and vulnerable terms, and always played with gorgeous tone and magnificent phrasing.
this kind of playing must stem from who you are .every note means not an empty gesture allpart of something.A concerto easy to make sound cheap here it is honest and mighty always exhilarating like NATURE.Grieg's music has a naturalness to it and needs a refined uncommon player or it can sound childish, naive yet it is really the most touching like a romantic Mozart. That kind of noble simplicity rare in virtuosi.
best performance of the Grieg concerto... Dinu Lipatti is my idol, the best pianist ever... I am proud that I am Romanian, I am honoured that Dinu Lipatti is Romanian... and, in my work of becoming a musician, Lipatti is always the main source of inspiration.
A great pianist like Lipatti can breathe new life into old classical war horses like the Grieg. I can only wonder what his versions of the Tchaikovsky 1&2, the two Brahms concertos and Rachmaninov's would have sounded like had he lived long enough to record them.
One of the best renditions of this concerto I've ever heard. Sometimes these old recordings are the best. Lipatti was truly a gifted pianist. Many thanks.
The pianist, teacher and writer Cella Delavrancea said about Dinu Lipatti: In the plenitude of his development, Dinu Lipatti became a lyrical brain and " He reach the top with a touching simplicity, clarity and dignity"
I want this video on my MY C-6 unit.

I believe this is the recording with Alceo Galliera conducting the London Philharmonia orchestra.

how did he died?
sushyanlin 2 years ago
Unfortunately the cause of maestro Lipatti's untimely death was Hodgkin's disease.
But the way I see it is that he will live on through these documentations of his career. Many thanks to marcbarbu for sharing them with us.

God of the piano! Had he lived longer he may well have been considered as the greatest ever.
Bravo! TY.
