when U are tailgating you are not aproaching the car in fron of you with such a high speed...u just move along with it...the system only kicks in when you are approaching the car in front with an X amount of speed higher than the car moving in front of you...
@Apjooz I don't need (thus I don't have) any system that helps me drive... I don't hesitate driving close to the limit when there is safe enough around me, so I know the behavior of my car and how far I can push it when needed. I'm not speeding all of the time, I drive more like a slowpoke, yet seen many bad moves taken by other drivers. Learn Your vehicle, learn Your limits, learn the rules, be aware.
"yet seen many bad moves taken by other drivers." I think that is enough reason for these kind of systems.
I am slightly surprised that the ABS brakes didn't raise any objection, it is after all a system that helps the driver to stop the car and avoid objects while doing so.
@Apjooz those bad moves are mainly very risky overtaking and forcing drivers from the opposite side to drive to the side, so the stupido can overtake more cars. I doubt there'll be any systems other than front bumper made of rails or roof mounted machinegun, that would made such bastards change their drivestyle. Sometimes they make me feel very pissed off. But I teached those sons of a bitches a few sweating lessons. And guess what? They started to drive more carefully... at least for some time.
ahh another system to malfunction. In the video the truck came to a complete stop, what of the cars behind him. People tent to look in the rear view mirror and under these sudden deceleration situation manage space in both front and back. We have been driving for about 117 years now with out all of these things, they are making us worse drivers! I bet almost all of the next generation will not even know how to get out of a skid, straight line break or counter steer for high speed lane change.
I feel the same way. They are now making cars that morons can drive so morons WILL drive. Honestly, I think the whole thing started with the automatic transmission where less coordination is required to drive.
@LostInPhilly89 Morons already drive. No one here signals, everyone speeds, there's a serious accident every day on the same highway. I was in an accident recently just because some genius decided that yielding to traffic was just an option.
lol, whats next? A t-bone avoid system? Does it gas it or brake to avoid t-bone? Lol, are they gonna make a system to turn the wheel in a up sized vehicle to avoid rollover? Man, it seems like soon its gonna be impossible to crash ur car. =)
@KuostA i think its automated... cos i have seen many vids and they all do the same... by the way thats not how the real horn is... i think this comes with the breaking system
Imagine how hard it must have been for the truck driver and the driver of the car to just let the ABA work on its own. Either place I'd lose an instant 10 pounds
What if the driver is tailgating a car and the 'ABA' system decides he is too close, and jams on the brakes at a high speed? The cars inevitably following the truck too closely are going to hit him, or swerve to avoid, potentially causing a massive pileup. At least thats what would happen in the US where 97% of cars on the road are driven by people who should not be behind the wheel.
@EricsiPhone I believe this function is based on sudden decrease of distance between the truck and the cars in front. If the truck driver was to tailgate another car in front, there should be a form of logic to deactivate the system since the difference in distance is already low for a period of time. Such systems do not purely activate brakes just because they sense a car in front.
@EricsiPhone, the system measures the rate at which the two vehicles are coming together and then makes the decision. so generally, while tailgating is bad, the distance is being maintained and the system shouldnt go off
@EricsiPhone Which is why I believe all road drivers should be trained like fighter pilots. People act by instinct way too much when presented with an emergency situation on the road, which is simply not the right thing to do. If I were presented with a truck making a sudden stop, I'd try to stay behind it and stop there, rather than dodge into another lane of traffic. If I found I couldn't stop in time, I'd swerve toward the shoulder. It's just common sense.
the sensor picks the rate of the gap closing not just the distance of the car and truck and the driver has to press brakes for full application of the brakes
@BigBuck237 according to another vid on this truck the drivers foot remained on the fuel pedal and the system still took control and stopped the truck.
@EricsiPhone I don't think the system "jams" the brakes as you elegantly put it by the distance to the front car, it probably gets activated by the speed differential to the front car.
@EricsiPhone ABA isnt activated based on the proximity alone... It's based on calculations of distance plus speed/velocity that you are approaching the vehicle in front of you
macht voll sinn wenn mal wieder einer zu langsam auffährt auf die autobahn und dann nach links wechselt....ich seh schon viele hinten reindonnern oder die ladung verrutschen :>
recently I watched this video several times and there is even the same answer. this brake assisting package from the german truck builder shows up how to protect about unsafe and uneducated truckdrivers. Professionals never need stuff like that for they know how to keep their eyes on the road and either they running a safe distance onto fellows like shown in the video.

why not just simply get rid of the driver and let systems drive the truck?
Terrible times are upcoming :/
