Yes, it needs to be jailbroken. If Categories does not work, get "Categories SB" from Cydia and that should fix it. For the fastest easiest jailbreak, use Greenpois0n RC6. Works only if you are running iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 3GS and up, and iPod Touch 2G and up. I don't know about iPads. I am not responsible for damage done to your iDevice.

second, you have to jail break it. Alot of people don't want to or know how to.

And yes it does void the warranty. If they crack open your iPod. They can find out. Also cydia slows your iPod down soo much. I think the jailbreak is Blackrain or something of the like
