I don't know why people are arguing. Both these cars a pretty much on the same level. From the 09' ZR1 and GT2, to the GT2 RS and updated ZR1. Look at the numbers and see that both cars are pretty much similar performance wise. So why argue? Why can't we all just act like men and admit that both cars are great at what they are built to do? And unlike most cars today, the GT2 and ZR1 are the only cars that don't rely on computer technology. These cars purpose built drivers cars.
One reason the porsche won was also contributed to the drivers and when they shifted and how smooth the shifts were and when they shifted. In a drag race you can never have consistency with the drivers and how good of drivers they are.
Check out Motor Trends drag race. It also has the ZR1 and the GT2 drag racing from a stand still. Its a very diff race. The GT2 gets out in front of the ZR1 still, but the ZR1 scoops em up very quickly. The GT2 comes in 3rd behind the 599. ZR1 comes in 1st and the GTR comes in 4th. If u want the bang for your buck. The vette is still a better car, and has a waaaaaay better sounding engine;)

As for slow acceleration..WHAT? The 60's vettes were capable of 0-60 in 5-6 seconds. The 90's ZR1 0-60 in 4.7 seconds, and the 97 Callaway vette had a faster 0-60 than the McLaren F1

The website I found called conceptcarz said the 94 McLaren 0-60 -3.2 seconds. The 97 Callaway vette 2.9 . I found other websites that said the callaway was 0-60 in 2.9 seconds.

I doubt the vette would get the Porsche around a track though, chevrolet doesn't beat Porsche racing experience (plus the quality and finesse). @Aspect2010 Depending on the track, the ZR1 would do surprisingly well against the gt2. That is, if the guys from this video were in no way involved. I own a Corvette myself and I know traction from standing starts is a big issue. The engine placement in the Porsche is a MAJOR advantage in off the line situations. The ZR1 is a faster car, it just takes a level of skill to make it work to its potentional. And quite frankly these guys cant cut it.

I actually participate quite heavily in track days specifically at Road America in Elkhart Lake WI. I have ran with a TON of Porsches over the past few years, and they are great track cars. However the C6 ZR1s I have played with are every bit as impressive out there as the 997 GT2s. I find 1/4 mile tracks to be an offensive and inconclusive method of testing cars.
I don´t think that the ZR1 is worthless, I don´t claim the Porsche to be king of the hill. But I can´t take your word for it. I can´t drive fast (faster than my Ms though), BUT!
I´m racing 2 wheels and it´s the same talk there (wich bike is the best or fastest yadda yadda). Riding bikes as good as the modern racers, a good driver humiliates you on whatever.
My point is, that all I heard you say is that you´re a better driver then the rest. Not that the ZR1 beats the GT2.

I meant that Ive done track days with many guys with both cars and talked to them a lot. So what Im saying is the c6 zr1 and 997 gt2 are pretty close on a real track.

A thypical drag track e.g. has so mutch ruber on the surface, that the traction is total abnormal and delivers unusual results. A 2010 911 Turbo was also tested with 2.70 secs on tests. In the US is also the kind of used fuel importand, because they mix a lot of weaker biofuel in the fuel. If you use pure standart fuel, you also receive better results.
@Rick2010100 ..Like the Porsche 911 very much indeed but your link shows it doing 0 -60 in 3.1 secs from standing start and 2.9 with roll out. The new 2013 GTR ( not on sale yet ) is 2.72 secs from standing start. Thats quite a bit quicker, almost 1/2 a second. It` 1/4 mile time is 10.88 whereas your link showed the 911 Turbo s at 11 seconds. It also does`nt achieve 1g around the skid pan but the GTR is over 1g.
@andwestuk I drive since ca. 1.1/12 year a 2010 911 Turbo and made the 0-60 in also 2.9 sec. (measured via a GPS) with regular summer tieres at 22 degree celsius. I also made the experience, that the performance in the Winter is much higer, because the intaken air is much more thickly and contains therefore more oxygen (feed for the turbo´s). But actually a 0-60 test in Wintertime is for me uninteresting, because i have Wintertieres mounted, witch are unsuitable for this test.

@MarcEibl I've had two z06's and have raced alot of cars only losing to a ford gt. This car I only bought 2 months ago and only put on 2000kms. Its in storage now. I haven't raced it yet, but it is much quicker than the z06.

And the fag driving the corvette just mashed it knowing full well it would spin uncontrollably so that the GT2 would win. There is nothing more dissapointing to Europeans than an American sports car laying down some pain on the Euro cars. The 997 GT2 was possibly the best sports car in the world when it came out, but corvette has built some serious track monsters recently,

I doubt the vette would get the Porsche around a track though, chevrolet doesn't beat Porsche racing experience (plus the quality and finesse). What I'll give you though is that the vette is two times less cash. Europeean cars are generally more expensive what can I say.

@Aspect2010 Depending on the track, the ZR1 would do surprisingly well against the gt2. That is, if the guys from this video were in no way involved. I own a Corvette myself and I know traction from standing starts is a big issue. The engine placement in the Porsche is a MAJOR advantage in off the line situations. The ZR1 is a faster car, it just takes a level of skill to make it work to its potentional. And quite frankly these guys cant cut it.

@SuperDukeSthlm When I say track I mean road course. Yes with corners. I have never even been on a 1/4 mile track. I actually participate quite heavily in track days specifically at Road America in Elkhart Lake WI. I have ran with a TON of Porsches over the past few years, and they are great track cars. However the C6 ZR1s I have played with are every bit as impressive out there as the 997 GT2s. I find 1/4 mile tracks to be an offensive and inconclusive method of testing cars.

I don´t think that the ZR1 is worthless, I don´t claim the Porsche to be king of the hill. But I can´t take your word for it. I can´t drive fast (faster than my Ms though), BUT!
I´m racing 2 wheels and it´s the same talk there (wich bike is the best or fastest yadda yadda). Riding bikes as good as the modern racers, a good driver humiliates you on whatever.
My point is, that all I heard you say is that you´re a better driver then the rest. Not that the ZR1 beats the GT2.

@SuperDukeSthlm Sorry I guess looking at my message it wasn't very clear. I dont have a zr1. I have a 2001 Z06 which couldnt hold a candle to the zr1 or gt2. I meant that Ive done track days with many guys with both cars and talked to them a lot. Theres a lot of sharing cars too and from the conversations Ive had, most owners of the two cars who can drive think they are pretty even on the [real] track. So what Im saying is the c6 zr1 and 997 gt2 are pretty close on a real track.

@MrPatschn Carbon fiber? The GT2 is a steel unibody constructed car with, yes, some carbon fiber elements. The ZR1 has an aluminum frame, with carbon fiber hood, roof, fenders, and tail lip. Yes it does use fiberglass and plastic in other places.I like you're attempt to insult me when all I said is the advantage in a drag race will go to the RWD/Rear engine GT2. I'm not standing by the ZR1 btw. I'd rather have the GT2 even if the ZR1 is a better race car.

Also most americans say that us british don't brush our teeth and that we arent clean, but I brush my teeth 3 times per day and shower 2-3 times per day. @andwestuk 0-60 times are only comparable if they wehre made at the same track and same weather conditions. A thypical drag track e.g. has so mutch ruber on the surface, that the traction is total abnormal and delivers unusual results. A 2010 911 Turbo was also tested with 2.70 secs on tests. In the US is also the kind of used fuel importand, because they mix a lot of weaker biofuel in the fuel. If you use pure standart fuel, you also receive better results.

The new 2013 GTR ( not on sale yet ) is 2.72 secs from standing start. Thats quite a bit quicker, almost 1/2 a second. It` 1/4 mile time is 10.88 whereas your link showed the 911 Turbo s at 11 seconds. It also does`nt achieve 1g around the skid pan but the GTR is over 1g.

@andwestuk I drive since ca. 1.1/12 year a 2010 911 Turbo and made the 0-60 in also 2.9 sec. (measured via a GPS) with regular summer tieres at 22 degree celsius. I also made the experience, that the performance in the Winter is much higer, because the intaken air is much more thickly and contains therefore more oxygen (feed for the turbo´s). But actually a 0-60 test in Wintertime is for me uninteresting, because i have Wintertieres mounted, witch are unsuitable for this test.
