My cousins have been repeatedly chased and attacked by bears (they live up north and they like hiking - and they're apparently insane), and black bears are more dangerous than grizzlies. With a grizzly you can at least hope they can't climb trees.

Most of the comments seem to to imply like she put the cat out but I'm pretty sure that she was opening the door to let the cat in. It ran at the bear when she opened the door so I think the door opening scared it. I'd be filming it too if there was a bear outside my house and if my cat ran at a bear I'd laugh too, at my cat's stupidity! Leaving your garbage out in Canada where bears exist is illegal. Whether polar bears in the arctic or on the little black bears on the coast, human garbage+ bears = problem bears, dead bears and abandoned babies left to starve.

you don't know much about bears do you ace ventura. A black bear can run 30mph. that's 50kmh. And it did not save the day. The bear was after the garbage that was left on the patio. This does not mean that its not crazy courageous of a cat - munchkin sized compared with the bear - to attack him.. nor does it mean it cannot happen that a black bear unfortunately is less of a coward and harms or kills a pet or human.

Metaculture. I live in a forested area. We have lots of bears.People don't keep their garbage under safe containment. The bears have become so bold, that no noise drives them away. They've stopped to nap on the school grounds One day, one of those folks will piss a bear off with their banging and screaming and they will become the new lunch.That woman will have trouble with that bear for a long time and he will grow quickly. Her sliding glass door will not stop him. Then she'll be laughing.

Obviously the woman knew that and has been visited by this bear before. She was giggly right from the start. Had her kid giggling too, who was obviously too young to know better. A black bear is a dangerous animal. Not as dangerous as a grizzly but when hungry or protecting her young, they are deadly. This laughing woman is an absolute idiot. I am sure she put her cat outside just to take this video. I hope the SPCA removes her cat and puts it in a home where the cat will have loving owners. This woman is a fool! The comments on this video make my head spin. First of all, cats LOVE to fight, and small black bears are timid and not very dangerous. I'd bet my money on the cat every time. This is likely an outdoor cat that can take care of itself, something you city folk don't understand.
This also highlights the cultural differences between Americans, who get their panties in a twist over everything, and French-Canadians, who have a much more relaxed take on life, live longer, and report being happier.

@TheOninnino black bears are known to be cowards. residents and hunters of areas where there's relatively much contact between the black bear and humans tell a whistle or a stone thrown at the bear normally suffice to make them run. This does not mean that its not crazy courageous of a cat - munchkin sized compared with the bear - to attack him.. nor does it mean it cannot happen that a black bear unfortunately is less of a coward and harms or kills a pet or human.

1.The woman should have kept her garbage secure and away from the porch. This is basic common sense. It is a civil legal requirement in many places
2. It is a juvenile Black Bear approximately 2 years old probably already on its own. It should be hibernating as there is heavy snow around. This means it will be very hungry and desperate. Black bears will kill life-stock and small to medium sized Mammals. lIt will be back
