I wanna add - the theme may be great - it's just that for me, the actual sex scenes would DETRACT from the message and not enforce it. People say this is a universal theme - but unfortunately, WATCHING the gay sex can be discordant for a straight - and this defeats the entire purpose. A Dichotomy (sp?)

It was based on a short story by Annie Proulx.

Their first 'encounter' in the story they did engage in anal sex. There you have it. The movie is pretty true to the story, which is gritty and not some fluffy romance. They both struggle with their feelings in a time and place where such feelings were disgusting to society. The core part of that belief was rooted in the coupling of men.

And as for your labels: I always got the impression that Jack was gay. He only married Lureen for appearances.

Watching scenes, i don't wanna see it. Heath's mumbling is irritating. Duh, is that how he reps a Cowboy? Why not use Americans with American voices? Because Heath is pretty like a girl? Sex scenes leave me bored and repulsed. Being honest. Seeing entire film would not change that - we are too desensitized to be "moved" when we don't want to be anyway.
