Obama's redistributive policies are nothing NEAR socialism. In fact, had you looked at what other G8 countries' social policies were like, you would have seen that many of them, though extremely capitalist, have way higher taxation ratio for the wealthiest (in Quebec, it's 52%), allowing them to create equitable and accessible social programs for all their citizens, regardless of their income. I am for Obama, but this video is very biaised. McCain is in a press conference room and Obama is at the convention. The crowd adds so much to Obama's speech, which is already far more inspiring than McCain's.
McCain's was actually a speech in front of a crowd too, if you listen closely, you can hear light clapping and cheering. He tried to get an audience, no one showed up. Obama just happens to have people excited about him.

In fact, had you looked at what other G8 countries' social policies were like, you would have seen that many of them, though extremely capitalist, have way higher taxation ratio for the wealthiest (in Quebec, it's 52%), allowing them to create equitable and accessible social programs for all their citizens, regardless of their income. You guys are not realizing the reasons jobs are going over seas right now! Big business can already operate cheaper elswhere because of taxation. Small business is struggling to stay afloat because of income taxes, self-empployment tax, and workmans comp. Who is going to sign your checks and give you jobs if the cost to do business is so high due to taxes it doesn't make sense. Small business is where the vast majority of jobs come from. Make it harder to do business and jobs are lost!

It depends on who is running. There is at least one other candidate running this election, Ralph Nader, running for the independent party, but his publicity has not gotten a lot of attention.
There are usually more than two candidates on the ballot. But the major party candidates are Obama for the Democratic Party and McCain for the Republican party.

Its funny when you are a nation responsible for creating a MAJOR war (Germany), and subsequently losing your military, how you can afford to be a "successful" socialist riding on the security created by CAPITALIST USA. Its actually not that complex. Many republican sympathizers suggest that socialist governments = disastrous economy. Or the suggestion is that socialism = non-democratic regimes.
The truth, as exemplified by countless developed countries with socialist governments is that socialism is NOT incompatible with capitalism (in fact they go together quite well), and that socialism is not undemocratic - check the democracy index.

Socialism and capitalism can not coexist in the same government. Living with socialism means the government is supposed to take more earnings away from everybody, and with capitalism the government is supposed to stay the fuck out of everyone's business. "Free" anything is not free, it is government sponsored theft, known as 'redistribution of wealth'.

No, you TRIED to point out that Socialist nations that live under the SECURITY provided by the US have "better" economies than the US. That is short-sighted thinking as there are many things occuring in the world that involve international bankers, war, trade, etc. While some European nations do relatively well, when brought into the bigger picture, they lack any real DNA. For example, the device we are communicating through would not be a luxury living in Swedish "security".

I didn't TRY to point out that certain socialist nations have better economies than that of the US, I DID point it out. Its a fact. So much so, to be sure, that these countries are better equipped to deal with market failures and other issues than the US is. Does the US provide security in this capitalist system, sure. But what does that have to do with the fact that socialism can in fact be compatible with capitalism and democracy?

1. Among so called 'developed' countries the U.S. has a comparably weak economy. This is no lie and it is not deceitful. Its the truth. This doesn't mean that the US remains any less significant. It just means that people living in countries like Sweden, Germany, etc. make more money and have higher standards of living.
