It's not alive, the internal organs are all removed and the spine is severed -> doesnt feel pain. The nerves make it still move. While I wouldn't eat that and I find it gross, the fish is not alive.

This is not a common practice in any country. I wouldn't say all Chinese or Asians are cruel. Only select restaurants offer this. It's nature, people are the only ones to season, cook, and make their meals look pretty. Other animals eat their prey alive. Fish are not mammals. Second you can't generalise the west not everyone in the west eats or uses G.E and the east also uses it so you can't just point the finger at the west.

The west can't just spot making freak chickens and breed organic happy ones, it would be awesome if they could/ did bit it's not that easy to change millions of businesses at once if it was more people would do it because you can sell organic for more! In most cases at lest some people in charge aren't willing to take the risk and expense of change unless pressured, they wont feel pressured until people get off their asses. Also not everyone kills their chickens the same way or injects them with hormones!

In Japan and other asian countries, the freshness of their sushis, sashimis and other seefoods is very important. And in order to show that their food is as fresh as possible, they serve the fish while it's still alive.
But anyway, the fish isn't alive for a very long time. Anyway, when we eat meat, just remember that the animal has been killed and has suffered too. And more of that, when we cook a lobster as exemple, we boil it alive.

It can't be cooked and alive at the same time. Carp will move long after they're dead. Fillets cut away from a dead fish will sometimes jump or flip if you nick the lateral line. It's a party trick, nothing more. The fish was dead the second it hit the oil.

This is not a common practice in any country. I wouldn't say all Chinese or Asians are cruel. Only select restaurants offer this. It's nature, people are the only ones to season, cook, and make their meals look pretty. Other animals eat their prey alive. Fish are not mammals. All living animals should be quickly killed before being cut or cooked in any manner. A quick knock on the head or an electric stun would do it. I don't even like the idea of dropping live lobsters in boiling water. We were on a lobster boat tour in Maine and asked about that practice...can you believe that they said that it doesn't hurt the lobsters because they don't feel anything!? I can hardly imagine that. I'm tired of stupid people who try justifying this! That fish was still alive, those were NOT muscle spasms. The mouth does not move like that - gasping for air when it's dead. A freshly dead fish might twitch; but not BREATHE!

This fish is not alive. We're all aware that if you cut something's innards out that it's dead, right? Well the reason it's moving is because of the nerves in the fish are still firing. Most all sea creatures (and I mean crabs, lobsters, fish) will do this. It is merely a way to show the consumer that the fish is indeed, as fresh as it could be. There ya go.
