  • This is one beautiful classicical piece of music. Maksim is awesome. He can hold all audiences, all ages and for those who send messages of jealousy, WELL..that's it....they're all green with jealousy. Maksim, you are a great pianist.

  • I love it - my favourite classical piece - well done!

  • He is really talented!! I don't care of what people say about him... they make him even more popular! And yes, he is trying to bring a younger audience, I agree with you... and he has got us!! and that's because HE IS TALENTED!!

  • Maksim was my gateway into classical music. I hadn't even heard ANY of the great masterpieces before, and now thanks to him, I'm hooked! I like his interpretations, but LOVE the originals!

  • Enough of the criticism! If you prefer the original version of this piece then go watch it, because its not here and this video is not for you... Maksim is quite commercial sometimes because he is trying to bring a younger audience's interest to classical music, unlike the rest. Not everyone wants to go to a really serious concert, this is more relaxed, it’s not a concert, it is a show with a band and backing dancers and If he really wanted to play the original, he is talented enough to do so...

  • @RichLucky13 - I agree with every word you wrote!!

  • @RichLucky13

we should just copy and paste what you wrote on all the videos for the idiotic haters that says he is untalented. seriously, i bet most of the people who criticizes him don't even know how to play the piano at all. I agree that he is trying to bring a younger audience to classical music

  • It sound good, that's what really matters. Music is something beyond any opinion, different tastes.

  • fuck you all motherfuckers! this piece is so well played!

  • Maksim is great. The “purist” Maskimphobes demonstrate how truly vulgar, little, and simple-minded they are.

  • A disrespect to Rachmaninoff and his music .

  • What a stooge!!!!!!

  • no passion, no feelings, no respect , a bollywood rendition of a classic .

  • Man, imagining Rachmaninoff's face as he listened to something like this almost makes it worth it. Almost. Seriously, if he had the foresight to know that scumbags like this would take advantage of his genius in such a ridiculous way, he'd have probably just said "fuck it" and lived a different life. And who could blame him?

  • Last time i checked, Rachmaninoff was from the romantic period in music when he wrote it, not the obnoxious asshole who has no respect for music period.......

  • I feel like shit while trying to listen to him.

  • Maybe because you are SH* *

  • @seta12 pah you are an asshole

  • fuck you..

    Maksim is GREAT.

  • @seta12 You are the first person that I've seen who has made a proper comment about this freak!!!!

  • @seta12 you are fucking retarded!

  • @seta12 Chicken? Whaaat?

  • ...this is my favourite variation out of them all... asd;poiljfao;pidjg;aodjh;fakj

people... go listen to an actual pianist play it. this person should go play what's been written for people like him. not a ruined version of a great art

  • 148 pessoas sem coração e cérebro!

  • Absolutely abhorrent.

  • @MrElicottero Could you do it better? You should learn how to speak in a decent way.

  • @MARLONSHARK No, and he can't do my job as well as I can, but he has the right to say I screwed up when I kill someone during surgery.

  • so many unnecessary accessories

  • donde puedo conseguir el video de este concierto? Me encanta. Este tipo es talentoso.

  • Talk with the harmony of sounds and declare the occult of the state of soul with jets of musical notes. The music is the mosaic of the soul, and the painting of the heart...

  • like all musicians he has his right to take an interpretation.

personally, i don't dig this. BUT I would LOOOVE to see him in concert!!! I could tell that he digs this and I can totally enjoy this vicariously. I am taking a lot of notes on his theatrics.... AMAZING. He feels his music with his whole body, not just the fingers and the brain. he communicates it visually very well.

and as if that wasn't enough, he included dancers. great. that is a package to numb the senses live.

  • he played very well . me gusta mucho. but what the fuck are all these dancer ...

  • MEKKORA ÁLMŰVÉSZ!!!!!

  • To hear this piece of music played as it was written and at the correct tempo, copy and paste this in to the search box......... RHAPSODY RACHMANINOV .....

It is posted by Trichoone and is the perfect version.

  • Who invited the percussionists?

    And the melody drones on...

If you want to hear it done right, listen to Cecile Licad.

  • Espantoso!

  • Espantoso!,

  • Beautiful man, lousy interpretation.

  • wheres the pagannini?

  • WHAT A MESSSSSS !!!! POP SHOULD BE ABBA & OTHERS NOT RACHMANINOFF ! ANS HE IS SO DRAMATCI ABOUT 4 NOTES ON A PIANO IN A LEATHER JACKET ! YUCK THAT IS SO OUT OF PICTURE !!!!!

  • Спасибо!!! Великолепно!!!!

    Thank you! Excellent!

  • wow, he actually took a sweet piece and made it shitty. good for him

  • @LeonidasBasileus it's just his interpretation. I also like the original version better, but that doesn't mean this one isn't good. it is just his way of singing it. no need to be rude.

  • @joyestel actually, it does mean that this version isn't good. he's not singing, he can't properly interpret this piece so he's trying to perform it in "his" style, which, as we can see in the video, many people seem to like (unfortunately). I'm not being rude, just stating the obvious. I would say that he's being rude to Rachmaninov, slapping him in the face with a glove! disgraceful.

  • @joyestel This would not be so bad if it was made as background music for a commercial or something like that, but the fact that he is trying to make a performance out of this arrangement is ridiculous. There is absolutely nothing artistic about this version as far as the music is concerned. Like playing elevator music in carnegie hall.

  • @88alan8800 or elevator music

  • @LeonidasBasileus & @88alan8800 guys, I didn't want to argue with you. it's just that some consider it good, and some consider it bad, and there's no need for words like "shitty" when you are stating your personal opinion. it's just a matter of taste (and maybe some classical education and personal preferences?).

anyway, on my behalf, I want to say that I never heard a person saying that he/she doesn't like Rachmaninov's original version. so, with that, I guess I'm saying all.

  • @joyestel Ok well let me give you a picture that demonstrates why I can not stand to listen to this piece. As an example, rather than a piece of music, lets use another icon of art, Michalangelo's David. Let's say I choose to make my own sculpture, by taking an exact copy of the David, cutting it into many pieces, and sticking them together with something other than rock. Would anyone want to see it? Maybe if I was famous they would... theres my point.

  • @88alan8800 lol, I get your point, and I have to say that I agree.

  • music for the unwashed masses

  • get real ,he is talented whatever version you prefer ,so much feeling and emotion to a masterpeice of musical composing ,i wish that i could play even 20% as good as him ,thanks for posting ,x

  • Ugh.

  • This is nothing new. Years ago there were Roger Williams, Peter Nero, Ferrante and Teicher, and others that did classics in a poppy kind of way. The first I ever heard the Rachmaninoff here was by Hugo Montenegro!

  • Maksim... you have gifted hands and talent! beautiful

  • disgrace

  • Oh-my-God I thought that Clayderman was enough , but this is priceless

  • i think this ruins the masterpiece

  • This is so interesting... I'm just not sure I like it...! The original is SO beautiful and this is just way over the top.

  • I don't like this" version". Maksim is a great pianist and a great musician, but this was not a good idea. The original version of Rachmaninoff is perfect, the melody

should be let free for expression............no drums in this case. Why changing the melody?? Should this be better??

  • The Adam Lambert of classical music. So wonderfully played.

  • Why is there a gay viking playing rachmaninov on TV? And what's with the casio drums in the background?

  • Bonita e interesante versión.

    Me encanta este tema!!

  • Ummmmmm.

  • Drums on classics it is like a knife in a stomach. You can feel something but you know it is not a good feeling.

  • one word: awful!

  • Yuck. Rachmaninov would have flipped in his grave many times over.

  • rachmaminoff raped

  • Must he turn everything so amazing for the ear, to complete horror?

  • I like the original version better...It's not meant to be ambient and have bass. It doesn't fit. Neither do the dancers.

  • this music is utterly heavenly inspired and it transports me to out-of-body so this movie is the epitome of that experience..beautifull elegant and Somewhere In Time we will all meet again I believe it, I feel it in my bones, in my Spirit and, I have goosebumps all over my body

  • ピアノも良いですが綺麗な踊りだと思いました。

  • O my god what a horror.... Why people does that?

  • this is beautiful, not too certain about the drums in it, but still a lovely version.

  • why the Maxsim put downs??? cretene!

  • beautiful rendition! the dancers can go, but the orchestra and Maksim play beautifully!

  • I'm always open to people fiddling irreverently with respected compositions, but... Maksim sort of sucks the personality out of this. I could even deal with the drums, but when you take this at a robotic tempo like this, you just lose all of the emotion.

  • *coughs up blood*

  • I tried to keep an open mind...AND THEN...I heard drums.

  • How really bad was that, that is really nasty.

  • Cos' è questa merda??????!!!!!! Più rispetto per la grande Musica!!!!

What is this fucking shit!!!!! More respect for the great Music!!!!!!!!

  • Cos' è questa merda??????!!!!!! Più rispetto per la grande Musica!!!!

What is this fucking shit!!!!! More respect for the great Music!!!!!!!!

  • @Gio1928DT They said the same thing for Picasso's paintings 100 years ago.

  • @MARLONSHARK Ahahah.

  • Add a couple of candles and we've got Richard Clayderman's successor...

  • chessy dancers!

  • Wow, this makes the paganini rhapsody sound terrible. I mean seriously, a drum and tambourine? Plus the transcription sounds like it was written for a 6 year old. Finally, the emo appearance just ruins it for me. Thoroughly unimpressive.

  • The dancers totally ruined the performance. Somebody please drag them out.

  • AHHH now I get it... This is like that violin player, that make a "classical show", i forgot his name... hahahaha, its so funny... Why the hell people do this stuff? money above everything... shame on you.

  • I love this version! :)

  • If Rachmaninov could listen it , he exactly tell him who is this player.Distortion of music. I hate it

  • Kids who are interested in classical music will find it. Especially with so many videos of all the great players easily available on youtube.

They will not look for this. This type of crossover only caters to people who wouldn't seek out classical music in the first place.

  • Comment removed

  • @sharpnova2 i'm not gonna even comment on the content of your post if you're gonna call me a retard, retard.

  • resignation accepted.

  • first 10 secs - great

then the girls - ok this is a bit weird

then the orchestra and kit?!? - WTF

  • well but the tune is catchy, don't you think so??

  • A truly beautiful version of this great classical Ballad!!

  • A master work is just ruined like this... sorry Rachmaninoff... and thank u for this cheap plastic sound.

  • I hate the dancing girls.Just ruin everything.

  • so just listen.

  • Such a beautiful piece of music butchered. Why are there dancing girls? This is truly a poor rendition.

  • a douchebag on the loose ruining classical music, i'd shoot him in the balls

  • so you're not into people trying to have new takes on music or making certain pieces a little more relevant to today's mtv generation?

you must hate any type of new music. what a close-minded bigot you are.

    sorry sack of shit.

  • @sharpnova2

what does that have to do with anything? classical pieces aren't meant to be relevant to todays MTV generation, especially not by ruining them. And actually most of the music i listen to is modern, but it's not shitty incarnation of classical music.

By the way, i usually like modern covers of classical music. but in this case here, it's pure horse shit

  • Too bad, I thought Celine Dion or Sarah Brightman was to burst onto the stage with her belting or screeching, respectively, followed by Andrea Bocelli's wailing, but one must say that Maksim is a very good-looking dude, sure to give Lang Lang's pork fat a serious run for his money.

  • hahaah~

  • @TehZomg I hate to say this, but I agree with you.

  • This video does not resemble really to the original written score by Sergei. It's ok, but it's not what the good Sergei wrote.

  • Exquisita interpretación de Rhapsody in a theme of Paganini por el maravilloso, talentoso y guapísimo Maksim Mrvica!

  • Exquisita interpretación de Rhapsody in a theme of Paganini por el guapísimo Maksim Mrvica!

  • who dat? check my version out!

  • NIce start!! a Total disaster thou!!

  • I totally agree with you, adding drums ruined this piece of beautiful music, its like when in the 70's the Saturday Night Fever album did a pop version of Beethoven's 5th symphony, it was horrible!

  • No offense, but when you play as greatly as this guy -- and posses stage presence -- ya don't need danders/arm wavers. They're such a distraction that they should just edit those girls out. Great performanc -- hope he tours the East Coast of the US soon.

  • MAKSIM É WONDERFULL.........

  • One word describes it: "pangit".

  • @prelin he meant ugly, "pangit" is ugly, get a life

  • nice sleeveless vest faaag lol

  • does it really matter if he is gay or not!!

  • Comment removed

  • omg i love the way he plays, i cried so much i really loved it.

  • albionplace and Rheostatik: Thanks for the enlightenment. I really must be getting old when you think that the original was written five years after I was born. As an old guy, I do like this music amd Maksim's interpretation.

  • I doubt that John Barry composed this for the film "Somewhere inTime" in the belief that it would be considered a classical piece. It is simply great music performed by a modern-day artist.

  • @harlandes81 The original version ( not this ) was simply played during a part of the film "Somewhere in Time" John Barry did not compose this piece.

  • @albionplace I think they were thinking of the theme music "somewhere in time" by john barry. ?

  • @Kiisharuby0083 Thank you. Yes, I think you're correct.

  • Um, this is a Pop version of a single movement of Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini in 1934.

  • @harlandes81 John Barry i believed composed the theme song "somewhere in time" This video is of another piece that was played during the movie scene...

  • I think this is a wonderful rendtion. Thank you for posting it.

    Love from Indiana,

    Shayla Starr

  • Nice

  • Sorry, but the "techno beats" don't appeal to young people, as so many of you are saying.

This is a dumbed down version of classic Russian Romanticism. The drum set really isn't necessary.

Hell, I don't even like Rachmaninoff's version, but here is the work of art he composed:

    watch?v=90MuPqYtV_k

  • All that I wish for is that people will look up the original work as well and appreciate it, even if they like other versions better. Respect the original master

  • as i tread carefully over the eggshells which prescribe what kind of comments may be left here, i would like to say that i think this isn't bad. hopefully this won't be deleted.

  • Come now, bomberchicken, "a stage kid"? Isn't this a tad hypercritical? I've listened to many of his pieces, and even downloaded the music for the Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 to follow while he plays this piece (elsewhere). It's flawless, absolutely flawless AND a wonderful interpretation, in my opinion. Please give the many credit where it's due. It think he is one of the best pianist in the previous 75 years and many of my musical friends agree.

  • im sorry to say but this cannot be considered as classical music

  • Who is this guy - and why have I never heard of him before? Does anyone know

  • effie brookins55 truly a beautiful piece of music. play on matskim. i'm your #1 FAN.

  • Absolute ruination - that is an abomination -

  • I also forgot to mention people like Zimmerman, Kissin, Bronfman, Horowitz, Listisa, Perahia, Bolet, Ashkenazy and more and more and more that Maksim will never match up to

  • he's an ok pianist, but he's nothing on the masters like Argerich, Rubinstein, Pletnev, Yundi Li, Blechachz........I could go on, not even mentioning the wonderful new talent like Tiempo and Giltburg. And I bet he wouldn't stand a chance in a real competition like the Tchaikovsky, Choin or Leeds competitions. He's just a stage kid like Lang Lang really

  • wibi soerjadi and nobuyuki tsujii... dont forget them.

  • @bomberchicken How dare you compare Lang Lang with this Crap ~!

  • @DarknessL12 we are waiting your piano videos!!!!!!!!!

  • @DarknessL12 Well I just think Lang Lang is a bad musician. Sure he's a great pianist but his interpretations are hard, brash, loud and disgusting. He plays things to show people how fast he can do it and what crazy faces and dances he can do at the same time

  • @bomberchicken I agree so much. He should take a listen as to what he's actually playing and compare it to how he's playing it. Maybe he'll stop smiling all the time.

  • I love maksims talent, but he did ruin this piece, He made it too..... media IMO. He is a fantastic pianist, but I don't think he has any of his own creativity unfortunately

  • Love it again and again!

  • I don't think any one plays this piece with as much passion and feeling as maksim.

    He is the best

  • I don't mind this version but I think he removed the passion from it.

  • i love him... he is combining classical music with techno tunes so that both old and young alike would meet on the same "frequency - the result: MASTERPIECE... only a genius could do that!

  • Comment removed

  • See you tube posting........

RHAPSODY RACHMANINOV...... posted by trichoone........It is played how it was written, is simply stunning and really doesn't need any "modification" whatsoever.

  • No need to put one down to put and other one up.Politicians do that!

  • no,no....sorry his daughter's name is LeeLoo (after Milla Jojovovichs character in The Fifth Element)

  • He is not gay! He has a wife and a beautiful daughter Hana. We are very proud of him here in Croatia. He is amazing.

  • Why would he destroy this piece? Why would he? He took it to a new level IMO, a better level. He managed to put together classic music with modern beats and he made it interesting to young people. Mrvica is a king!

  • He took it to a new perspective, a different one.I love him but don't,never use superlative.I'm not a judge. And as an artist I promote UNIQUENESS.

  • MARAVILLOSO

  • Young talent such as Maksim should be encouraged, cultivated and appreciated.

  • louder very soft...increase the sound

  • very nice

  • he's good but dresses like a homo''lol

  • horrível.... péssimo!

  • Maksim is a genius :D

  • Actually, I'm pretty sure he's married. To a woman.

But he's a brilliant pianist so who gives a damn?

  • well.. i didnt even know maksim was gay. i still love his music though.

  • He is gay?

  • Why?You are on u Tube.If you are interested,if he is your type,ask him.

  • best interpretation- express the heart of rachmanioff!

  • A rather innovative, creative take on this piece. Has a march like rhythm to it(or I could visualize a marching band peforming it in this way).

  • I appreciate that he's not wearing a suit.

    Anyway, on topic, great interpretation.
