ok sure somebody said this before but the guy with the glasses has on his shirt love music racism and im sure a bunch of other bullshit on there as well. why? i did not know you could be racist on television
@nbennettjones o_0 i looked and looked and was like ........ how could you have something like that on the tube.. thnx for analyzing that in more detail for me.
@baneshield The 1100 is the only one with a colored stripe through the middle. The 796 has more color schemes with a red frame compared to the 696 which has more black frames, but they both have one color scheme in common (red body, black frame). Don't know about other visible differences.
I wanted an M1100, so I went to the dealer and asked for a test ride. They said no test ride unless I sign the papers to buy it. Well I don't need to test ride if I've just bought it, right? Then I can ride it all I want.
So, I went to the Triumph dealer, and asked to test ride a Street Triple R. They said sure!
@aluisious I see your point...not being able to test pilot a bike can be frustrating, although, it's very common at dealers. Best thing to do is wait 'till the dealership hosts a "demo day" where they have a whole bunch of demo bikes ready to roll for people to mess around with. I went on a demo ride today at the Ducati dealer and got to test out the Monster 796. Others were testing Streetfighters, Monster 1100's Multistradas, and even a few Diavels out there.
hey MCN I personally like the format of these short reviews, if I wanted a full blown account I'd get a magazine or go to a website. I don't want to watch 10 minute videos of some guy rambling on about brakes and suspension and what else, and I don't think too many people would like that either.
Don't listen to the internet douchebag haters, motorcyclenews....I've been a fan since you've been posting videos, and your quality continues to improve. Keep taking honest looks at your product, and the upward trend will continue. Great resource, thanks for putting it out here.
please invest in a good mic. I couldn't understand all that was being said in the diner.. way too much background noise, and the audio while recording the motorcycles was terrible.
Honestly, is there any real appreciable difference in power between the 696 and 796? What is the difference in the bikes besides displacement? I'm just left scratching my head, wondering what the point of the 796 is. Quick, fun video though. I enjoy the short and dirty review format for things like this
What we try to do with these video mini tests is give readers the brief highlights of the full test (which as has been pointed out, can be found in the paper) - though you can also get full details of each of the bikes in our bike reviews section online if you want more detail for free.
We used a young rider who has just passed his 33bhp test as that is one of the types of rider the 696 and 796 are aimed at.
Probably worth responding to a few of the points raised.
Perhaps we need to think about whether using the word "test" in our videos, as there's always going to be a limit to how much info we can get into a 2 or 3 minute clip.
I think it was a decent effort mate don't let the haters get you down. I do some bike videos myself and will be doing a lot more when I get my Canon 60D to augment the SX20 IS.
I rode the 796 here:
Double Feature Riverside Moto GP Party - Cashman Bechtel Big Dig
Are you serious? The 796 is a bit more grunty than the 696........but, surprise surprise, it's not as fast as the 1100, which is better on the open road. It fits "exactly between the two". Well, thanks for clearing that one up for us guys!
@Metalmiltia totally agree does this statement not apply to every bike ever built? lets be honest here, these utube tests are here to get you to buy the paper really. cheap advertising.
For myself it would have to be the 796 for the reasons that I live in central London but like a blast at the weekend. I would also go ABS for the reason that in the congested, U turn, stop start capital and in the wet stopping as fast is as important as moving off.
Who am I kidding though I would Have the Multi Strada if I could afford it lol

So essentially the 696 is fast, the 796 is faster and the 1100 is the fastest. Geniuses.
