  • One of the finest exponents of the "shoegazing" scene of the early 90's,Lush were the epitome of the 4AD sound, perhaps with the exception of the Cocteau Twins. If i had to chose between the 2 i would go for Lush,if only because i saw them at their peak, and they were amazing.

A terrible tragedy that they had to curtail their existence all too soon but goodness me, they left a wonderful legacy!

  • @abbotskerswellpostie "shoe-gazing" or "navel-gazing" are just arbitrary names...the music speaks for itself.

  • This song on 120 minutes when I was in the 9th grade changed my life forever!

  • First time play this song on rock band I went crazy. I love this beat lol.

  • I'm not into rock at alll, but this song go hard, who else got here by RockBand? Lol

  • I remember hearing this song on 88.7, CIMX, otherwise known as 89X (formerly CJOM) in Windsor, Ontario around March of '91 near my 13th birthday. I only heard it once but the song stuck with me all these years. I recall turning the stereo up so loud to this song 'cause it was SO good. I couldn't resist! Not knowing who made this song, I though I heard the DJ say "Lush" by Deluxe. Years later, when I learned that Lush did "De-Luxe," I ended up buying 'Gala' on CD & a great CD it is.

  • Trippppp

  • AWESOME. I always liked this song. It's unfortunate when one discovers Music such as this at a much later date. However, one can argue that's it's great to have even discovered them at all.

  • LOVE theres no ? about

  • Love !

  • such a great time for music...

  • Psychedelics brought me here.

  • Miki is gorgeous.

  • @iloveoreos15 Concur!

  • @iloveoreos15 Yes, she looks really good here...but Emma is exquisite.

  • most beautiful into to a song ever

  • rockband brought me hereee

  • Damn Miki is fine in this video!

  • Lush green plants brought me here..

  • @frackus101 are u glad they DID?

  • rock band 2 xD

  • Miki brought me here

  • Great instrumentals but ..the lyrics? o.e When I first heard those I was like...what?! "Grass in my thighssss" ...

  • chuj brought me here!

  • Nothing screams early 90's like Lush. Good times.

  • progressive pop. id thought id never see the day and let alone it was always here....IN THE 90S

  • Sometimes i wish i could twist my my brain into liking pop. So i wouldnt get disappointed at all my fave bands getting next to no credit, lol.

  • If you can get the album this is from (Gala) then do. It's superb. this and Sweetness & Light are the most well known songs from the album but the whole thing is full of great songs.

  • @lvl54spacemonkey

Saw the band on Night Trax, bought the cassette tape (height of tech then) and saw the band at the Masquerade in Atlanta. I wuz there!

  • Cute girl, Cute song, Cute mind.

  • This song. THIS BAND OMG.

  • Achingly beautiful.

  • reminds me of Miraflores, Lima, Peru

  • bellisimas : la cancion, miki y emma

  • que hermosas las 2

  • fuck rockband 2 i wit rockband unplugged

  • This is the best alternative rock song I've ever heard in my life. It will always be remember.

  • @LessThanJayson more specifically shoegazing

  • saw this bank 1991 at the 9:30 club in DC with Ride. What a great show

  • @neptunesurfboards FUCK no way? I wish I could've seen that show! Sadly, I was only 1. :(

  • Brill from intro to fadeout :)

  • Got to see this band live at the first Lollapalooza show. They were one of the main bands I wanted to see but I remember how underappreciated they were at the time. Great band though. Glad I got to see em before they quit.

  • Thanks Rockband 2!

  • Only one question: Where's the fucking time machine when you need it?...

  • y pensaba que the cranberries era la unica banda con musica hermosas LUSH es mejor !!!

  • I missed out on Lush. I was coming home from the army. I feel like I missed something very special. Better late than never but it still stings to have missed the boat on a band like this. Love the songs, love this song!

  • What rush song did they steal the opening riff from?

  • jajaja si tuvistes la suerte de ver a miki tuvistes la suerte que nunca pude tener lamentablemente naci justo en el año 91 es el comentario mas loco que haya leido referente a una cantante muy simpatica

  • I want to marry Miki. I don't care if she never plays another song again. She probably would've come across as unattainable for me if I ran into her during the early 90's. I spent a summer in London - '92. Amazing times. I can understand why she'd prefer a different lifestyle after Lush. So, Miki, if you're reading this, contact me, OK? We can make babies or do whatever you want. :)

  • Lush always makes life better. Just listen.

  • I've played this song on Rock Band on Bass on Expert and earned 100%

  • I love this song:P

  • cuando escucho sus canciones de lush me viene a la mente the cranberries

este grupo recien la conosco despues q me quede con la intriga del shoegazin y duspues de escuchar a curve buen estilo de musica

  • when i bought this cassette back in the day i wore the sucker out...they were so very very much underrated!! them and Belly.

  • @AnkhHotep969

They absolutley were considered part of the shoegaze movement. If you look around your local internets... more often than not it's Jesus&Mary Chain/MBV/and Lush that are at the forefront of the scene, as it were.

  • @destiny66 yeah they were definitely part of the shoegaze sound. All you have to do is listen to them and thats what they do.

  • THUBS UP IF U FIRST HEAR THIS SONG ON ROCK BAND!

  • i heard this song and introduced it to my band. well they must have loved it because now it's the only song they wanna play anymore.

  • my favorite! you should should give Rems Floating Chandelier a listen if you have the time:)

  • I brought myself here.

  • @pilsenschop No you didn't, something or someone influenced you. You dumb fuck.

  • @SlaveryHelped oh fuck off, you listen to Sixpence None the Richer and Aqua.

  • @pilsenschop I fucked your mom up that's why she's bleeding between the legs.

  • @SlaveryHelped okay.

  • @pilsenschop

heyyyyyy "kiss me" and "candy man" were wicked good tunes.... yukyukyukyukyuk.

  • the first time i heard this on rock band, i was playing the bass part (lol i'm bassist irl) i was thinking the basses timing seem hurried and not very flowing and i got kinda irritated but then listening to it i'm like my god it fits perfectly!

  • ahhhh.....the 90's. where anything was possible and almost everything was simplistic and nice. its a shame bands like this don't exist anymore. its all the stupid rap/hiphop garbage nowadays. real bands like this don't exist anymore, and thats really a pity.

  • songs like this are rare to find

  • Love this song

  • Good song. I love it :)

  • Shoegaze brought me here.

  • @DukAmokSRK i don't know why anyone would be gazing at their shoes when miki and emma are singing.

  • "Lilla Bommen" brought me here.

  • Laughlines from the Cocteau Twins

  • Hazel from the Cocteau Twins

  • this song is terribly weird, but their is something about it that is so addictive & likable.

  • great video. nice visuals.

  • lush always turned me on...girls playing dreamy, melodic, pop music...nothing better...

  • Olá, amiga! gostei do video muito bom valeu parabens.

Forte abraço e que Deus abençoê.

    Att..............Juvenil.

  • omg!!! this song brings me back to the most happily drunk and pointless

    time in my life!!!!

  • Brilliant 9/8 verse to a 6/8 chorus.

Miki talked about in an early L.A. Times interview about she and Emma being self-taught and not being able to play other bands' stuff (actually mentioning The Stones!), but Lush totally their act together and were doing sophisticated dream pop that still sounds amazing today.

  • @ultratwin Not just any old 9/8 either... Chris Acland on drums makes it sound like 4/4 with a "stagger". He really held together that band in so many ways, when he killed himself their dissolution was inevitable

  • VH1 Classics 120 minutes brought me here

  • Miki brought me here

  • wow... people... wake up... this album was produced by Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins. I'd suggest listening to the song 1) Those Eyes, That Mouth, 2) Loves Easy Tears, 3) Orange Appled 4) Sighs Smell Of Farewell, 5) Pink, Orange, Red

  • @TheAliceParty a very very good selection of suggested listening there!

  • God, this is so awesomely dreamy and happy...

  • One of my favorites bands ever!!! Saludos desde mexico

  • Saw 'em back in the day, at the Masquerade in ATL. Brings back good memories!

  • Seriously now, I'm listening to this for two days straight... Lush, one of my favourite bands and possibly one of the best ever...

  • What are the lyrics? Honestly i hav no f****** idea shat shes say

  • @crazyboy554 @BadNoobCompany I've been waiting on the slide Suggest I open wide No incentive to hide Happy coursing through my veins Don't even know my name When I'm up you're coming down (x2) Inside of me, some sight to see Some sight to feel our earthy bed When we're wrapped in polythene What's that supposed to mean When we're wrapped in polythene What's that supposed to mean Paper flowers bring me luck No birds in sight I fear Stick sticks in you my dear When I'm up you're coming down (x2)
  • whats the song about? sounds like shes on an acid run x)

  • @BadNoobCompany In an interview back in the day, Miki alluded to the song content as being about having sex in Hyde Park (London) at 3AM in the morning on E.

  • @BadNoobCompany @crazyboy554

    Some say I'm vague

    And I'd easily fade

    Foolish parade of fantasy

    Drink in your eyes

    Drink in your sighs

Grass in my thighs my aching legs

The song is clearly about having sex in a field while high.

  • @kmarasin

true, but it was actually a park in the uk. ;)

  • Man that chick is hot!!!

  • Miki's half-Hungarian and half-Japanese...so alluring...so sexy...and that slight overbite is the thing that puts me over top for her.

  • First heard this: Wow...this song is gay and stupid....

5th time hearing it on Rock band 2:I should probably download this to my MP3 player

20th time listening to it on MP3 player... in a row:*crying* WHY CAN'T THE 90s COME BACK!?!?!?! *sobbing* THIS SONG IS AMAZING!!!

  • @fishsticksIV No shame, two beautiful women with great guitar skills. An infectious hook, strong riff. A great harmony between Mickiye and Emma. Dig it.

  • @fishsticksIV This is a very educational comment.

  • Robin Ince sent me here

  • This is for all the girls at my high school.. McCullough H.S. in The Woodlands, TX.. Thanks for all the memories.. I had so much fun!

  • my Replay is on auto-pilot...and i love it.

  • So explosive and so euphoric, it makes such a good piece of music. Will something like it ever return?

  • Their one good song that still sounds good 20 years on. And Miki looks dishy spinning on that platter singing over her shoulder

  • brilliant song, i wood

  • LOVE THIS SONG LOVE THE VIBE IM GETTIN FROM IT<3

  • I LOVE THE BEGINNING OF THIS SONG. It's like something epic's going to happen.

  • Still one of my favourite bands, loved their live shows and miss 'em so much....

  • i still miss them as a band. nobody sings and plays like Micki and Emma do!

  • yea, i bought the ep back in the day. i was a big 4ad fan. one of the best from that label, besides Cocteau Twins, of course. you cant fuck with mrs. frasier!

  • One of the greatest bands ever. I am not exaggerating either. The music, the emotion, the beauty, the humor. Everything. I grew up on punk, hardcore, metal during the late 80's and early 90's. When I first heard them in 1990 I wanted to sell every tape and vinyl I had. I was done. I thought this was perfect.

  • the best shoegaze band ever!!!

  • @NYJETS1973 they are incredible but I will always think the best Shoegazer band is Curve

  • @trancelott curve was pretty cool. check out bleach they were great!!

  • Miki is a very good singer, songwriter and guitarist. It is a shame she has retired from the music industry - she did do guest vocals for a duo called Seinking Ships last year, but she said in an interview that this was not a permanent return to music.

  • anyone who was sent here by Rock Band, go away

  • Comment removed

  • @zwartepiet412 @zwartepiet412 Seriously dude. This band was not played on the radio or available in stores when I was a child. Underdeveloped rock market where I grew up. At least Rock Band drew my attention to this band and now I absolutely love everything by them. Shame they're not around anymore. You really should stop acting all "elite" and just be happy more people have discovered this band.

  • i could totally become a lesbian for miki

  • cool as f***k track i had the orig on 12" lost over the yrs

  • this is amazing

  • rock band sent me here tooo....this hard ass song

  • I saw Miki and Emma on a 176 bus in Camberwell in the 90's. Those were the days. Then onto a Slowdive '/ Cranes gig at Clapham Grand. Gone but not forgotten. My shoes were never very gazeworthy tho'.

  • possibly the best period in music was when shoegaze was alive and kicking back in the late 80s - mid 90s.

  • incredible stuff

  • "foolish parade of fantasy" The definition of "reality". drugs or no drugs.

  • i could listen to this song forever. and watch the video.

  • i fckin love this song!

  • (Sigh) I Miss This Now.

  • trippy

  • Rock Band sent me here

  • @djmagadan me too....i was playing this song and couldnt catch the beat on the drums but on the guitar im a beast lol

  • @djmagadan me too

  • @djmagadan Haha same here!!!

  • @djmagadan it sure did...

  • I luv this band! I think Emma Anderson is so cute!

  • THIS MUSIC IS PLAYED WHEN YOU SEE THE THINGS

    WHEN YOU GET HIGHT...

  • The intro is amazing!

  • Takes me back 20 years ago to the early "nineties" alternative music scene.

  • There sound is so sexy.

  • talented still mighty fine track girls with guitars lush.

  • talented still mighty fine track

  • Man, life just seemed so new when I was 17. I miss the 90's.

  • Lush is so amazing!!!

  • gah, I (almost) can still remember seeing this video like 20 years ago for the 1st time & thinking to myself:

"I must find more by this band!"

cheers to whoever posted this song

    :o]

  • 22 people hate the brittsh

  • oh, Miki, you're so fine

you're so fine you blow my mind

    hey, Miki!

    #@!

  • miss the shoegazer rock..... Long live Lush, the Swirlies, My Bloody Valentine!! I am glad that RB2 has generated interest in such great bands!!

  • miss the shoegazer rock..... Long live Lush, the Swirlies, My Bloody Valentine!!

  • is she asain?

  • Love my jazz hip hop soul house but i found it.Heard this tune 15 years ago on the radio remembered the name lush, now ive found it.Its 4.23am an i cant blare it.In a few hours im gonna blow my wharfdales out, this tune is fucking siiiiiiiiick!!!!

  • i pretty much fell in love with lush after i heard this in rockband , after that i started listeninq to other the songs and i jus loved lush!

  • good song bad video

  • Laura, Monochrome, Deluxe. In that order.

  • Both Miki and Emma were lovely looking girls and probably still are. They weree also very talanted which is something the music industry could do with now. Wish they had made a bit more music before splitting up.

  • Absoloutly frikkin' brilliant transcendent pop...Timeless

  • if it weren't for rockband...

  • i think this is my favourite lush track, it's just so bloody catchy and despite the "cocteau" ethereal production, it's really pretty simple.

a long time ago now since i first heard it and saw them but what memories are brought back!

  • Question, starting at 1:45, what note is the back-up harmonizing that root note on? I can't tell. it's amazing.

  • @Drummeric1989

Assuming the song is in E (which I think it is), then the harmonising on "polyTHENE" is the dominant 7th of the A chord - i.e. G

The next bit - "supposed to MEAN" is the Major 3rd of the E chord, which is Ab

One of the cool things I like about this song, is that the basic verse progression (E, G, A, B, E) is often subverted by using altered chords / bass notes. Sounds pretentious, but the result is really beautiful, in my opinion. An excellent song - best one they did.

  • I love that last shot.

  • fuck shes so hot

  • I saw this band at Chelmsford Y Club years back, the girls were sexy as hell. They were a damn good band too!

  • This song makes me laugh when I hear it

  • This is AMAZING.. this song's colorfulness compared to typical rock/whatever made after the magnificent 90's is like comparing watercolor painting to b&w stick figure

  • It's funny how watching a video that's 20 years old makes me feel young again and old at the same time but in a good way. Bittersweet.

  • Biggy,

Yeah Emma was"top shelf" in her day, don't worry about that!!!! Always better than Miki!!!! With a name like "bg gay one" ???? UMH.

Yeah Deluxe for me is a all-time classic. Lush only had 3 albims and 2 EP, yet hardly a shit song.

Emma wrote all the gems Deluxe, Nothing Natural, Monchrome, Breeze, LAst Night, etc

  • am i the only guy who fancied emma more than miki? nevermind, listening and watching this reminds me of a younger guy who was totally in love with music, who found it exciting, stimulating and life affirming, lush were one of a few bands who could do that, sadly the young guy is now 20 years older and struggles to find anything that any longer makes me feel the same.

thanks for the memories and rip chris.

  • Miki has a fantastic voice - it is a shame she quit the music business after Lush split - she did appear recently on Seinking Ships' album, doing guest vocals on three tracks, but this w
