This breed was orginally the chinese version of a pitbull..they were fighting dogs and guard dogs.the extra skin was incase someone/thing grabbed them they could still move and bite the attacker

Otty2Hotty - the Shar peis are one of the oldest dog bread in the world and were nearly exstinct a few escaped China around the comunist reign and thankfully they are doing well again. the snoring is no different to any Retreiver or Border Collie. They also loose the wrinkles as they grown up. If you dislike the bread then stop commenting on a lovely breed

@deathbatgirlxxx while I dont know how it is for the whole breed, but my shar pei has had tons of health problems. gallbladder removal, shar-pei fever (diagnosed as shar pei fever by multiple vets even though he is a mutt), cysts in his eye, etc. Now he is perfectly healthy though, and at almost 10 you would never know he's had any of those problems

@bayarea915 most likely all you need is find appropriate food for your sharpei.99 from 100 all of this is problems with health because allergy on a food.Lets try any professional feeds if your dog eat feeds or read forums about what natural food good for sharpeis in a case your dog eat natural food.Yeah, and each try should about 2 weeks so you can see helps it or not.

@male82uk the chineese origionaly bred them as gaurd dogs but they just werent aggressive enough in their nature so thats why they were nearly snuffed out.

A tip for any single guys,get a sharpei,you will definately get dates just cos people come up and wanna talk about your dog,My brother always takes my dog down the beach and it took me ages to suss why until he finaly told me-the dogs a fanny magnet.
