Nothing about this video is accurate. Please dont act like you know anything about foster farms or any other company besides the Bs you want to believe. You have so hate against foster farms but its one of the more well operated companies. They do take pride in what they do and treat all animals with care. i know the ones who already ahe a issue against companies like this wont change there mind but please stop acting like you know any better. Eating foster farms is no different the free range
This video is accurate and current! They raise 30,000 chicken per house. The chickens are gentical selected to put on a lot of weight in six weeks. The conditions are digusting, these animal never see the light of day. The smell is putrid the air is horrible inside.
In foster farm advertising they make fun of southern grown chickens but they never show you what their chickens look like.
Join the movement, do not buy foster farms chickens or turkeys. Choose free range poultry.
I don't see why we are basing facts on a video that is over five years old. If this is still the case I would like to see a NEW updated video showing the same conditions taking place as I really don't think FF would still have conditions like this.
I've been inside big chicken coup like that, and it was the most nausiating smell I've ever smelt in my life. I couldn't stand to be in there longer than 10 seconds.
I work in a processing plant in GA the hatcheries are inspected by QA reps from each plant as well as USDA . the growers use hormones too meet the demand for the product remember those birds are 6 weeks old.. and if you don't like it don't eat it
I don't see nothing wrong in this video , whats matter? I worked in a mexican farm long time ago and this company have to know manage the business better than other places where grow up chicken, illness chicken have to move right away before to transmit to other birds, besides , it's not true that they don't have air fresh to brief 'cause there are more death chicken also they cannot walk 'cause they are fat..
the people who work there are all legal.not one person has taken another person job away.automated machinery takes away the jobs.I know people who work for this company and they hate it because the conditions they work in are bad.
i own 2 pet chickens and i will NEVER have any other type of pet. fuck dogs & cats and snakes and other bitches. farm animals are the most mistreated of animals. it makes me sick how much meat america and the rest of the world comsumes. if i ever do get married, my husband will suck up the fact that i want chickies as pets.
but yet they all continue to work there, they all eat chicken, and they are trying to bring down the company they have worked for for 20 years. why now? whatsdifferent? nothing is different. they will work for less so they pay less. i pick up there and deliver there product. from what ive seen there very clean for a slaughter house.
I bet these chickens had dreams of another life. boo hoo how cruel. They are never even given the chance to follow those dreams. These workers came in and took jobs away from those who were there before them who tried to hold out for better pay and working conditions. just karma. That last drunken chicken was in somebody's yard. I love fried chicken
@tigersorrells If all the illegal aliens left these factory/ farms you could shut them down and force them to pay a better wage. That would help lower the unemployment rate for AMERICANS. I like Tyson's chicken better.
Can't help but notice that the shed that was falling apart was awfully quiet...like maybe there weren't any chickens being raised in it because it was no longer habitable. Also, the ventilation system is awfully loud for a building with "poor air quality". Just sayin'.
Doing a research project for my english class that involves tracking food items we eat back to the source, essentially from the "dirt to the table". Anyone know of any REPUTABLE sources that document Foster Farms treatment of workers and animals in recent years? Or any REPUTABLE information about the company?
I can comment on how they treat their workers... I worked there for the 3 months over 10 years ago, they work you as much as they can and pay as less, they do not break any laws when it comes to overtime and holidays but they work you harder then any company I've ever worked for and will only pay you minimun wage... NOW as for the treatment of the animals I can not confirm that because the department I worked in they were aready wrapped and ready to be boxed...
ANY food production done on a massive scale should be outlawed. You CANNOT control quality at these levels. that's why the planet is in so much trouble with all the poison they use to make it possible - drugs, pesticides, etc. it's ABSURD! we need to go back to basic home farming, and make it a privilege to be able to grow your own food. in fact, that could be the answer to population control which is the real problem.
@MrThatsrightbaby we won't be doing that anytime soon, industrial agriculture companies have genetically engineered most recognizable produce such that it will not germinate. The apocalypse isn't that far away...
@bobman32 The measure of how we treat our animals is a measure of how we treat each other. Even if you don't care about animal cruelty you're a fool if you think that eating something that's been sick and full of stress hormones and antibiotics is good for you or anyone. Not to mention the fact that they treat their workers like slaves adn they have a laudry list of federal violations including dumping tons of waste into a PUBLIC NATURE RESERVE. They're not just chickens.
@vaqueromuerto: What morons these days don't realize is that the environment and the condition these animals are in are UNHEALTHY! These are SICK birds, some of which have been dead for days! Then we EAT them!!!!!! I'm not a vegetarian, but I make very consciouse decisions about where I get my food. My chickens have to be free range, cage free, and hormone and antibiotic free. It's way more expensive, but then in the end, you are what you eat.
@vaqueromuerto The measure of how we treat our animals is a measure of how we treat each other.
@flamespear86 have you seen the lettuce farms, no animals and there treated like slaves. actually treated way worse then foster farm employees. so i guess we all should stop eating everything. lets all starve to prove a point. veggie farms, fruit farms, slaughter houses. etc... they are all slave workers making very low pay. but you continue to eat what you eat knowing a mexican picked it for you.
I watched the Food, Inc. DVD and I was very disturbed by the movie. I decided to start buying organic chicken at Trader Joes. I decided to do research on foster farm because they are a big company and I was right about the company. I used to buy my foster farm chicken and ground turkey at Costco. I will no longer buy from foster farm.
as long as theres chickens they will die and we will eat them as long as they have there food i could care less how there treated WHY??? cuz there only alive for the next 6 WEEKS...FYI the environment wont do anything to the chickens in 6 WEEKS....ohhh and "creating chickens to grow faster IS PLAYING GOD" so this whole thing is unethical...if anybody is to blame its the government....in the end they control the world...and your dumb chickens...
hey dummy, you are eating sickly chicken with antibiotic prophylactic treatments, you think it has no bearing on your system lol ask a medical professional (hint).
that was my friend wanting to write shit from my account.i hate how he talks wen he thinks hes right haha bullshit.hmm interesting though i believe that lol but me idc everyone dies sometime ill let other ppl worry about that i have my own priorities.
EMT GREEN, you are a piece of work. your taking things way out of context, Why do you have a boner for Foster Farms? or is it all farming in general? So what your saying is you want to starve? i think that option is coming your way not too far from now. The small family farms simply cannot make it in this day and age, look around small farms are out of business, i wish they could make it, what do you suggest EMT GREEN? keep in mind, Farmers are not the enemy.
I've made it VERY clear that I dislike Factory Farms and their treatment not only of animals but of the environment. Period.
Starve? You're clearly ignorant on this topic. They don't send factory farmed chickens to countries experiencing famines. They send GRAINS. Think about that before spouting nonsense.
Small family farms have troubles because of government SUBSIDIES to Factory Farms, and because people don't think before they spend. Education....its what makes dinner make sense.
U dont know anything about factory farms. so you see some workers mistreating some animals. does that mean it happens on every factory farm as you call them? try calling them family farms, because most of the farms are owned by families trying to make a living? ive seen dirty cops in my life, does that mean every cop i see is a dirty cop? of course not. your clearly seeing things the way you want to see them and not being reasonable, and trying to educate someone like you is a lost cause.
And vidarjens, even though I completely agree with you on this topic, I wouldn't deny anyone their entitlement to an opinion. I don't want EMTGreen to leave the country, but I do want the people in this video, as well as those who composed it to realize that belittling and complaining about the structure of a decent company like Foster Farms is completely without merit when their accusations about the deformed chickens has no validity in terms of natural deformations in new born "ANYTHING".
Just because factory farming has become the new norm for farming doesn't make it ethical.
Given your beliefs, I'd think you'd get that just because something is done doesn't make it right.
CAFOs and factory farming are unethical in terms of humane animal husbandry. You may think this Co. Factory Farms as humanely as possible, but that's like me saying to you that an abortion doctor does abortions as humanely as possible. That's what you sound like to someone who gets that CAFOs are wrong.
Oh, and anything smaller than me that isn't my pet or disgusting tasting belongs in my belly. If I would kill it in the wild naturally, I will eat it currently. It's just how it goes, that's why undomesticated smaller animals run away. I would eat them if I were hungry, end of story, and so would you. Just be thankful you're not small and delicious!
This is not a discussion about whether or not people could or should eat animals.
its about how we treat the animals that we eat. CAFOs have turned them into machine cogs, and have drastically lowered the standard by which the industry cares for their food animals.
EMTGreen, I honor the fact that you are compassionate, I really do, and I even respect some of what you're saying(not the cussing or calling me ignorant...) but you have to realize a few things about Foster Farms. I've been in and around farms my whole life and I have SEEN mistreatment of animals on many occassions Not at Foster Farms. They are so clean and well managed that elementary schools take tours to learn how the farm operates. They take care of their livestock and their employees.
I'll stick with promoting small, sustainable family farms. Holding the farmers who adhere to the AWA standards up as models of humane animal husbandry makes more of a difference in my book than pointing out the "best" of a fundamentally abusive farming model does.....and holding up some visits from schoolchildren doesn't make something bad into something ethical.
1 or 2 birds out of 20,000 or so have disorders. Wow, what is the percentage of people with disorders? I seem to remember my elementary school had at least 15 mentally or physically handicapped children out of only 2000 kids. Do you see these birds confined in a space where they can't move around? No you don't! These chickens receive much better treatment than they do at many other farms where they don't have enough room to even turn around.
To put it simply, you liberals disgust me. So many things wrong with the world (as vidarjens indicated) and you are worried chickens more than your own human rights. It's indicative of how truly weak some of you people are. I'm completely against hippies but at least in the 60's they were complaining about things like Agent Orange use in Vietnam. If you think of the grand scheme of things, how can you people not recognize that you are life sucking cowards?
For those of you with compassionate hearts who are affected by liberal propaganda videos, take into consideration that all this video highlights are the birds with defects and that have died. Also it's shot with a low light correction when it's completely dark there. Things don't look grim at all in the light of day when you can see the healthy chickens moving around freely. They also overuse and misuse the words SLAUGHTER repeatedly.
This video is setup by someone who is unhappy with their current position in life and instead of taking charge of their life they are complaining about someone else and expecting others to make their life better because they are lazy.
This video also highlights only a handful of employees who are upset about treatment where I personally know several employees of Foster Farms who LOVE working for them. Also those who are complaining and protesting a job are typically low level employees who work a position anyone can fill. Any job treats employees with a particular skill better than those who do medial tasks. A lot of companies don't admit to it but it's true.
Anyone who protests a job is someone who is too weak to create other options for themselves. If you protest your job it's obvious that you don't respect your employers, don't appreciate your job, and also indicates your inability to find another job elsewhere. You people make me sick.
i would have to agree with you Johnux. EMT GREEN, what are you going to do about it? FREEDOM OF SPEECH BABY, you dont like it GET THE F&*% out of the country. Why dont you take some of your own advice. Your not going to stop me from buying Poultry product, if fact i might just eat chicken 3 nights a week instead of 2. lol
Eat whatever you want. Changing you from being an reactive closed minded person with no information into someone with a clue isn't really the point.
Putting information out there for those who have the ability to apply critical thought to their choices IS the point. Thanks for giving me the platform for sharing that info. You've been very helpful with that.
@TheJohnux Be careful before spouting off in ignorance.
About half of those involved in food animal welfare issues are not only conservative, but staunch Pro-Life conservatives.
This is one of the few truly BiPartisan issues. Try not to let your hatred of one side cloud your ability to comprehend what is being said and who is actually saying it.
whether its abortions, oil spillz, environment, corruptd government, its all connectd, its calld 'the circle of life'.......just because they are 'only chickens' doesnt mean that it doesnt affect our frequencies of life.
Put some thought n2 it....we as humans were made NOT 2 EAT ANY KIND OF MEAT! wat do u do 2 any meat rite b4 u cook it? U have 2 season it--our bodies were made 2 be flourishd n nourishd wit fruits n vegetables, those taste great without the seasoninz...meat tastes nasty if u dnt season and cook it...
abortion clinics are killing millions of babies, your water is being poisoned with heavy metals, your air is getting fogged with chemtrails, you have criminals running your federal, state and local governments, that are scamming you, stealing from you and your family and telling you its normal, and your worried about treatment of chickens? WTF
You could start acquiring that clue by reading "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Foer. Many of those issues are addressed in that book....and are directly impacted by this issue.
Are you living life under the mistaken impression that people are only able to care about one thing at a time? Most of us are able to hold beliefs on several things at once. Try it.
Man has been eating animals for centuries, you get a clue. If your so concerned about life of animals, why are you not concerned about abortion, killing of living babies inside the womb. There is alot more problems in the world than a few thousand chickens you think are being mistreated, you want to make a molehill into a mountain. im smart enough to realize this is very small molehill compared to the problems our society faces, this issue with Foster is not even molehill. i like meat.
who cares about the chickens. its just going to be food any ways. i mean if they can really mutate a chicken to have 6 legs and 6 arms lets go for it. if the chicken is already dead and hasnt been dead to long. once again who cares its going to die any ways.
you should ask the question, How can i feed the millions of people expectation? How will you meet all the requirement if you don't do what foster farm does? The whole world wants about 50 million chickens a day. If you do have a better way of raising that many chicken then go do something about it? If you dont then stop complaining and get some kfc. Maybe if you can convince everybody to stop eating chicken then foster farm wouldn't be doing this...
Many of us ARE trying to suggest that people eat far less meat than they do now.
The amount of meat and dairy people in the US eat are killing people via heart disease in record numbers.
The numbers of factory farms in this country are ruining our water supply, polluting our air (mostly in poor, rural communities) and creating devastating environmental catastrophes that make the Exxon Valdez look like a spilled soda.
Eat local, eat in season, eat humane. It matters in every way.
Funny, because 50 years ago heart disease was unheard of, and yet almost every meal included meat AND dairy in generous proportions....
And are you really so ignorant that you think farming is worse than the Exxon Valdez oil spill?? Please tell me one farming disaster that had as much impact as that.
Foster Farms IS a local company. Chicken sold in CA was grown in CA. Birds grown in Louisiana are sold in Louisiana, which is more than computer, car, electronics companies can claim.
Funny, because 50 years ago we were eating FAR less meat than we are today (meat consumption has increased per person threefold in those years....do some research) AND we were alos far less schooled on the nature of heart disease and early detection of same. Just because something isn't diagnosed (due to a lack of ability to do so) doesn't mean it didn't exist. But the bottom line is that meat consmption is FAR beyond what it was then....so your argument isn't one that's based on facts. (more)
And as to the Exxon Valdez - you're kidding, right? Are you really this out of touch with the facts. I'm happy to help you out:
Firstly, I said FACTORY farming causes issues bigger and worse than the Exxon Valdez, and this has been proven. I am not against sustainable, small family farms. You're complete misunderstanding of the word "local" in the context of small, local farms has nothing to do with what is actually meant by that term.
the video was incomplete they not taking into account the good thing to have many birds so that lots of mouth can eat meat...but in the long run ...do this video can explain how they can help to improve it...they only know yadayadayada. they dont care to improve it.
What idiots. skrchicken hit it on the head. I wish I could have caught them on my farm. What happens on the farm stays on the farm, especially with an incinerator and piles of manure that will burn up anything. They should consider themselves lucky they weren't in Louisiana. Idiots.
how did you get them to let you into the "farm"? i am doing a project on factory farming and i live in washington and need to visit a local farm to take a video. i would really really appreciate it if you let me know!!!
I can guarantee that they did not have permission to be on the farm, aka they were trespassing, which is illegal and grounds for prosecution. Also, the biosecurity threat posed to the animals by making this video was HUGE! I doubt they realized they could have wiped out the entire flock they were so concerned about saving.
Those birds are living their entire lives on the brink of death to begin with, and are so pumped up with medications, there's not the risk you say there is.
Besides, they weren't interested in saving that flock (nor are the so-called "farmers" who will kill them anyway in a matter of days), they were interested in getting the truth out.
Actually, the birds are not on the brink of death. They are very much alive! I can tell when they jump and flap their wings and dance with each other. Doesn't sound like dead to me.
And I have never used medication in any of my flocks. We use natural products like citric acid and organic iodine. The only reason we would need to use medication is if someone dragged in a communicable disease by breaking biosecurity, like these two.
If the coorperate bigwigs don't want to cut their own paychecks, they could raise prices on chicken and save eating machines from themselves, or make more money and use that for better chicken care and perhaps more money for those who do the actual work.
One word to say this but a pretty bad way to show an example of farming. Problem is what happens people see this and think all farmers are the same. Im surprised about chickens being sent to a slaughter house we used to do it in the barn but to be fair it was 1 or 2 free range ones a week. And it was for home use it was after the chicken was from its laying point so it was just using up feed so we marked it and then after a week that was it after 6 mounths of this we put the roster in free range
Im not an extremist, i understand about life and its like a cage we all are born into a destiny if its killing animals or a lawyer, so i dont hate anyone i just want to push for a higher understanding of spirit so everyone can slowly realize the subtle truth of conciousness experience and realize for them self and then maybe they will go AH HA and look at this hell situation we need to grow out of.
This is ridiculous! I mean if you don't speak english you shouldn't expect a high wage! Increased government regulation only drives up food prices. So we have happier chickens and more starving people!
FYI, overweight and obese people outnumber the undernourished in the world.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) there are about 1 billion overweight people in the world of whom 300 million are obese; if this an accurate figure it equates to a world epidemic.
There are 800 million underweight people worldwide.
on this video i see that they chose one bird out of 21470 birds that are placed in that house.. i also noticed the feeder height and water height are perfect... litter dry.. as for those bad ones.. there more likely to catch disease and spread it... hints why they kill them... foster farms is a huge company that offers good benifets and hours to those who learn to appreciate the fact that they even have a job... and these people want more pay,?? they should find another job!
You obviously know what you are looking at in this video and I agree. I have walk a lot of chicken barn just like this one and concur that the litter looks excellent, feeder and water line heights excellent as well. The birds with the leg problems has slipped tendons which is not caused by genetics. You can hear the ventilation fans running in the backgound making the air nice and clean. I have no problem with the husbandry practices show here. The "implications" in this are ignorant!
Picking out inconsistencies in this video isn't addressing the whole point. Chickens are mistreated on a global scale and are not included in many animal right laws. Ignoring the truth doesn't make it any less true.
By the way; whoever thought of holding the chicken upside-down to show the bare feathers making it to believe mistreatment is going on is wrong. They are so full of shit the second pile has started.
A mother hen delibertly sheds the feathers so the body can have better heat contact with the eggs to ensure proper development. Ask any farmer and they will tell you the same exact thing.
Why does it seem like most of the people wanting higher pay are of hispanic descent? If they think they can hop back to mexico or whatever to get competitive pay they are wrong. Why dont they get legal help? Cause they know they wont go nowhere. Unions dont happen at walmart and everyone including hispanics are extatic about working there. This place probably pays much more than walmart.
If you were educated, then you would know that plants, think, feel, and have a memory. This is scientific fact. They are alive, they grow. There are a couple great books on the subject.
What ever you eat, it has to be killed, plant or animal. I say we start eating those jobless, homeless, dread lock vegan hippies in Northern California. By the way, I'm a draft card burning hippie from the days of Vietnam and ducked bullets at Kent state. True hippies that gave you the freedoms you enjoy today.
just curious, not important but those last frames, was that a rescued chicken? anyways i used to eat farm meat.. (not consumer) and there's a huge difference between 'happy meat' and 'angry chemical packed meat'. want to know why we are fatter, sicker and meaner? it's easy, the meat is bad so we are going bad. (now that's not any propaganda it's just that's how it goes with mass production in anything! even veggies.
Whether it's the worst of the worst or not in a whole it's pretty much what's going on. I for one have better things to do with my life then do this to living creatures. Foster Farms is far from being an honest company and I know this first hand. I've toured there facilities and the slaughter line is not nice.
The animals never get to see outside or run about and they must go insane with hearing the perminant noise of the air vents and other bird noises. Lets just ask if you would like to be kept in this shed with 20,000 other people. NO i thought not!
Yes what the real mind, the thoughts thats move and change like clouds?, or the conciousness thats aware of everything emotions/pain/its aware when asleep, even deep sleep but when in deep sleep it has nothing to relate itself to, its very easy to find the truth it only takes a meditation, so the karma is the actions of body speech mind thoughts intentions and the conciousness is the recorder.
the thing no one notices is the awareness behind all mental cognition, anyone can realize this but everyone is too busy or ignorant to this subtle reality below the surface call it conciounce if you will, just ask your self, if we are the body how can thoughts think about thinking and go around in a circuit this is the brain but the awareness is what it functions within, this is called spirit.
Nah, not really. I just get a kick out of reading some far out YouTube comments every now and then. 40 year old guys sitting in the basement of their parent's house in a dirty t-shirt and sweat pants sitting in front of their computer screens come up with some "brilliant" comments.
Well i could relate to being kind of like a lonely man, i hardly have sex i meditate alot and feel my energy channels have opened up somewhat kind of like the ants crawling inside my brain i think its the chanels inside my brain and you know what that means opening of the 3rd eye, abilities too numerious to mention.
These sheds are NOT unclean. The shavings are changed. They are in temperature controlled barns, never out of food, or water. Yes occasionally you will have one to die, but it happens to wild chickens to. If you look closely its plain to see that the chickens have plenty of room. There is ample space around them, they huddle up because they are frightened by the person filming.
The chickens that are so damaged, were damaged by another chickens. Chickens can be cannibals in all situations. They are omnivores...not vegans....sorry.
Out of the tens of thousands of chickens that are bred in one area, how can you not expect a rare few will have some kind of unfortunate defect or injury. Spending the money to try and stop that will probably skyrocket the price of chicken meat and eggs - then you can see some REAL protesting!
Although there are chicken farms that operate slightly better than this, this farm is like a luxury chicken hotel compared to farms in places like China.
well i would hope that 11 birds would be able to have suffice space etc. but you must also realize that this is how these people make a living. If they didnt do this then they couldnt provide food on the table and a roof over their heads for the family.
Now i don't agree with mistreatment of animals but be honest, if it came down between you starving, and saving a chicken, what would you choose? I know my decision would be quite simple
well technically vegans and vegetarians don't really say that. (the real ones not those wannabes) they do say something that is still hard to aquire.. better treatment and lesser chemistry in the production of meat for the consumer. that's not going to happen either.
Underwood, this is true, I have been to a place like this and the chickens absolutely had no care at all. No air, no space, no medical care. Every chicken I saw was sick. I want to kill the freaking people that treat poor helpless babies like this. I have 11 beautiful chickens at home who are healthy and happy and I can't even imagine treating any animal like this. We are animals, what makes us any different than or chickens for example. Just because we are smarter doesn't mean a single thing.
Lastly, stunted growth is seen in all types of living creatures, including humans. Again, it is enevitable.
I am not aware of Foster Farms and their practices but I would suspect that this video was altered to show the negative side as opposed to showing the whole story, open mindedly.
Thirdly, when it is mentioned that they can be crippled due to the quick growth rate, it may be true but it is no different than us humans. There people in life with disabillities such as a deformation etc. This is going to happen...it is enevitable.
Really? So we selectively breed for people to grow morbidly obese and 10 times faster than their natural growth rate?
Um....no we don't. This isn't about what happens in nature, its about what humans are purposely forcing those animals to become via genetic manipulation. THAT is where the deformities come from.
This cicken that is shows with manure on its stomach is not that common. If you look closely at the other chickens later on in the video, there is no sign of this filthiness. Also, chickens do not enjoy being held like this so even those who complain of mistreatment are at fault.
My second point is that (this may not be the case in all barns) all manure is removed from the barn and the barn is washed with an anti-bacterial cleanser. New straw is chopped(or wood shavings are spread) for the next chickens that arrive. They always have constant access to fresh feed and water, so that should not be argued; for our opperation any ways.
I would first like to say that I live on a chicken farm and I have done so all my life.
First of all, When viewing the first scene of inside the barn, it took be by surprise to see the amount of movement by the chickens. When the lights are turned off, they quickly go to sleep or atleast rest quietly. My only possible explanation for this disturbance is that there must be some one or something causing this uneasiness.
Those mexicans in the beginning of the video are worthless. They're fucking chickens, I bet you ate KFC last night so PETA lovers shut the fuck up and live normal you fuckin losers
how funny, people care when it is dogs ~ but people become critics when peta shows farm animal abuse! what makes one animal any more or less desearving of kind human treatment! ALL animals should be provided with appropriate care.
Yes, I am against cruelty to animals, but I've gotta say, Foster Farms chicken served at the Foster Farms restaurant next to the Livingston, CA processing plant is astoundingly fresh and incredibly succulent. Makes you appreciate chicken, and what it should really taste like. As for the hen houses, let sunlight in, filter the air, and make a plot of grass for recreation. Then fry them up.
how funny, people care when it is dogs ~ but people become critics when peta shows farm animal abuse! what makes one animal any more or less desearving of kind human treatment! ALL animals should be provided with appropriate care.
fucking sick that is man, how could humans be so heartless, how can we ever talk about human rights and respect each other if we can respect other living species around us. this is something a cavemen wouldnt do. we dont even need to eat meat, we can do perfectly fine with vegitables. infact research shows that people that are vegiterian are more intelegent than others.
I agree in a way... we've been eating them before, has effected us in no way shape or form... and I'll continue to eat them... if we hadn't seen videos like this we still eat the chicken... why stop eating it now
because it shows you respect whta those animals go through! It shows you won't put up with the pain and suffering and the emotional distress of the workers and their underpayment.
if you were one of those chickens or one of the workers that needed the money from hanging chickens and watching their thouts get slit, I'm sure you would understand better.
Why don't you think about someone else other than your taste buds for one second.
Hmmm... I see... I resect the workers and what they have to go through, but the chickens. And, my tastebuds aren't "someone..." they are "something". And I wasn't thinking about them when I posted the comment. I say this about all foods. If we had never known anything about what was going on in the factories then we would continue to eat what we do now.
And just saying if I were the workers I would not apreciate what you had just said right there... it seems like your classifying the workers and the chickens together.
And sentence with those two things seems weird how you put it... it's like you mentioned the chicken for odd reason but to put it in there. Also it's "throats" not "thouts". I used and in this little post a lot but oh well.
Free range is by far better for the chicken being in a place like this is not free range do your home work b4 you go and say shit

Doing a research project for my english class that involves tracking food items we eat back to the source, essentially from the "dirt to the table".

Then we EAT them!!!!!! I'm not a vegetarian, but I make very consciouse decisions about where I get my food. My chickens have to be free range, cage free, and hormone and antibiotic free. EMT GREEN, you are a piece of work. your taking things way out of context, Why do you have a boner for Foster Farms? or is it all farming in general? So what your saying is you want to starve? i think that option is coming your way not too far from now. The small family farms simply cannot make it in this day and age, look around small farms are out of business, i wish they could make it, what do you suggest EMT GREEN? keep in mind, Farmers are not the enemy.
vidarjens 2 years ago
I've made it VERY clear that I dislike Factory Farms and their treatment not only of animals but of the environment. Period.
Starve? You're clearly ignorant on this topic. They don't send factory farmed chickens to countries experiencing famines. They send GRAINS. Think about that before spouting nonsense.
Small family farms have troubles because of government SUBSIDIES to Factory Farms, and because people don't think before they spend. Education....its what makes dinner make sense.
EMTGreen 2 years ago
U dont know anything about factory farms. so you see some workers mistreating some animals. does that mean it happens on every factory farm as you call them? try calling them family farms, because most of the farms are owned by families trying to make a living? ive seen dirty cops in my life, does that mean every cop i see is a dirty cop? of course not. your clearly seeing things the way you want to see them and not being reasonable, and trying to educate someone like you is a lost cause.
vidarjens 2 years ago
And vidarjens, even though I completely agree with you on this topic, I wouldn't deny anyone their entitlement to an opinion. I don't want EMTGreen to leave the country, but I do want the people in this video, as well as those who composed it to realize that belittling and complaining about the structure of a decent company like Foster Farms is completely without merit when their accusations about the deformed chickens has no validity in terms of natural deformations in new born "ANYTHING".
TheJohnux 2 years ago
Just because factory farming has become the new norm for farming doesn't make it ethical.
Given your beliefs, I'd think you'd get that just because something is done doesn't make it right.
CAFOs and factory farming are unethical in terms of humane animal husbandry. You may think this Co. Factory Farms as humanely as possible, but that's like me saying to you that an abortion doctor does abortions as humanely as possible. That's what you sound like to someone who gets that CAFOs are wrong.
EMTGreen 2 years ago
Oh, and anything smaller than me that isn't my pet or disgusting tasting belongs in my belly. If I would kill it in the wild naturally, I will eat it currently. It's just how it goes, that's why undomesticated smaller animals run away. I would eat them if I were hungry, end of story, and so would you. Just be thankful you're not small and delicious!
TheJohnux 2 years ago
That is completely off topic.
This is not a discussion about whether or not people could or should eat animals.
its about how we treat the animals that we eat. CAFOs have turned them into machine cogs, and have drastically lowered the standard by which the industry cares for their food animals.
EMTGreen 2 years ago
EMTGreen, I honor the fact that you are compassionate, I really do, and I even respect some of what you're saying(not the cussing or calling me ignorant...) but you have to realize a few things about Foster Farms. I've been in and around farms my whole life and I have SEEN mistreatment of animals on many occassions Not at Foster Farms. They are so clean and well managed that elementary schools take tours to learn how the farm operates. They take care of their livestock and their employees.
TheJohnux 2 years ago
So they're the best example of unethical farming.
I'm so glad.
EMTGreen 2 years ago
Oh, and I cussed and called you ignorant because you weren't exactly being respectful yourself.
"You liberals disgust me"....? not exactly begging for respectful dialogue with a statement like that.
EMTGreen 2 years ago

missmeliss1124 2 years ago
1 or 2 birds out of 20,000 or so have disorders. Wow, what is the percentage of people with disorders? I seem to remember my elementary school had at least 15 mentally or physically handicapped children out of only 2000 kids. Do you see these birds confined in a space where they can't move around? No you don't! These chickens receive much better treatment than they do at many other farms where they don't have enough room to even turn around.
TheJohnux 2 years ago
To put it simply, you liberals disgust me. So many things wrong with the world (as vidarjens indicated) and you are worried chickens more than your own human rights. It's indicative of how truly weak some of you people are. I'm completely against hippies but at least in the 60's they were complaining about things like Agent Orange use in Vietnam. If you think of the grand scheme of things, how can you people not recognize that you are life sucking cowards?
TheJohnux 2 years ago
For those of you with compassionate hearts who are affected by liberal propaganda videos, take into consideration that all this video highlights are the birds with defects and that have died. Also it's shot with a low light correction when it's completely dark there. Things don't look grim at all in the light of day when you can see the healthy chickens moving around freely. They also overuse and misuse the words SLAUGHTER repeatedly.
TheJohnux 2 years ago
This video is setup by someone who is unhappy with their current position in life and instead of taking charge of their life they are complaining about someone else and expecting others to make their life better because they are lazy.
TheJohnux 2 years ago
This video also highlights only a handful of employees who are upset about treatment where I personally know several employees of Foster Farms who LOVE working for them. Also those who are complaining and protesting a job are typically low level employees who work a position anyone can fill. Any job treats employees with a particular skill better than those who do medial tasks. A lot of companies don't admit to it but it's true.
TheJohnux 2 years ago
Anyone who protests a job is someone who is too weak to create other options for themselves. If you protest your job it's obvious that you don't respect your employers, don't appreciate your job, and also indicates your inability to find another job elsewhere. You people make me sick.
TheJohnux 2 years ago
i would have to agree with you Johnux. EMT GREEN, what are you going to do about it? FREEDOM OF SPEECH BABY, you dont like it GET THE F&*% out of the country. vidarjens 2 years ago

I have freedom of speech too.
Or were you thinking it only applied to you?
Eat whatever you want. Changing you from being an reactive closed minded person with no information into someone with a clue isn't really the point.
Putting information out there for those who have the ability to apply critical thought to their choices IS the point. Thanks for giving me the platform for sharing that info. You've been very helpful with that.
EMTGreen 2 years ago
@TheJohnux Be careful before spouting off in ignorance.
About half of those involved in food animal welfare issues are not only conservative, but staunch Pro-Life conservatives.
This is one of the few truly BiPartisan issues. Try not to let your hatred of one side cloud your ability to comprehend what is being said and who is actually saying it.

WTF
vidarjens 2 years ago
Get a clue.
Try it.
EMTGreen 2 years ago
Man has been eating animals for centuries, you get a clue. If your so concerned about life of animals, why are you not concerned about abortion, killing of living babies inside the womb. There is alot more problems in the world than a few thousand chickens you think are being mistreated, you want to make a molehill into a mountain. im smart enough to realize this is very small molehill compared to the problems our society faces, this issue with Foster is not even molehill. i like meat.

onceuponagift 2 years ago
you should ask the question, How can i feed the millions of people expectation? How will you meet all the requirement if you don't do what foster farm does? The whole world wants about 50 million chickens a day. If you do have a better way of raising that many chicken then go do something about it? If you dont then stop complaining and get some kfc. Maybe if you can convince everybody to stop eating chicken then foster farm wouldn't be doing this...
Kobethao 2 years ago
Many of us ARE trying to suggest that people eat far less meat than they do now.
The amount of meat and dairy people in the US eat are killing people via heart disease in record numbers.
The numbers of factory farms in this country are ruining our water supply, polluting our air (mostly in poor, rural communities) and creating devastating environmental catastrophes that make the Exxon Valdez look like a spilled soda.
Eat local, eat in season, eat humane. It matters in every way.
EMTGreen 2 years ago
Funny, because 50 years ago heart disease was unheard of, and yet almost every meal included meat AND dairy in generous proportions....
And are you really so ignorant that you think farming is worse than the Exxon Valdez oil spill?? Please tell me one farming disaster that had as much impact as that.
Foster Farms IS a local company. Chicken sold in CA was grown in CA. Birds grown in Louisiana are sold in Louisiana, which is more than computer, car, electronics companies can claim.
skrchicken 2 years ago
Funny, because 50 years ago we were eating FAR less meat than we are today (meat consumption has increased per person threefold in those years....do some research) AND we were alos far less schooled on the nature of heart disease and early detection of same. Just because something isn't diagnosed (due to a lack of ability to do so) doesn't mean it didn't exist. But the bottom line is that meat consmption is FAR beyond what it was then....so your argument isn't one that's based on facts. (more)
EMTGreen 2 years ago
And as to the Exxon Valdez - you're kidding, right? Are you really this out of touch with the facts. I'm happy to help you out:
Firstly, I said FACTORY farming causes issues bigger and worse than the Exxon Valdez, and this has been proven. I am not against sustainable, small family farms. You're complete misunderstanding of the word "local" in the context of small, local farms has nothing to do with what is actually meant by that term.

how did you get them to let you into the "farm"? i am doing a project on factory farming and i live in washington and need to visit a local farm to take a video. i would really really appreciate it if you let me know!!!
ProdigiousHdawg 2 years ago
I can guarantee that they did not have permission to be on the farm, aka they were trespassing, which is illegal and grounds for prosecution. Also, the biosecurity threat posed to the animals by making this video was HUGE! I doubt they realized they could have wiped out the entire flock they were so concerned about saving.
skrchicken 2 years ago
Oh bullshit.
And that's exactly what they did. Good for them.
EMTGreen 2 years ago
Actually, the birds are not on the brink of death. They are very much alive! I can tell when they jump and flap their wings and dance with each other. Doesn't sound like dead to me.
And I have never used medication in any of my flocks. We use natural products like citric acid and organic iodine. The only reason we would need to use medication is if someone dragged in a communicable disease by breaking biosecurity, like these two.

There are 800 million underweight people worldwide.

on this video i see that they chose one bird out of 21470 birds that are placed in that house.. i also noticed the feeder height and water height are perfect... litter dry.. as for those bad ones.. there more likely to catch disease and spread it... hints why they kill them... foster farms is a huge company that offers good benifets and hours to those who learn to appreciate the fact that they even have a job... and these people want more pay,?? they should find another job!
m0na333 3 years ago
You obviously know what you are looking at in this video and I agree. I have walk a lot of chicken barn just like this one and concur that the litter looks excellent, feeder and water line heights excellent as well. The birds with the leg problems has slipped tendons which is not caused by genetics. You can hear the ventilation fans running in the backgound making the air nice and clean. I have no problem with the husbandry practices show here. The "implications" in this are ignorant!

If they think they can hop back to mexico or whatever to get competitive pay they are wrong. is there such a way to prove the existence of another life?
ethermay 3 years ago
Yes what the real mind, the thoughts thats move and change like clouds?, or the conciousness thats aware of everything emotions/pain/its aware when asleep, even deep sleep but when in deep sleep it has nothing to relate itself to, its very easy to find the truth it only takes a meditation, so the karma is the actions of body speech mind thoughts intentions and the conciousness is the recorder.
EgoTailTRAILCIRCLE 3 years ago
the thing no one notices is the awareness behind all mental cognition, anyone can realize this but everyone is too busy or ignorant to this subtle reality below the surface call it conciounce if you will, just ask your self, if we are the body how can thoughts think about thinking and go around in a circuit this is the brain but the awareness is what it functions within, this is called spirit.

Do you really care to know
AcousticMastery 2 years ago
Nah, not really. I just get a kick out of reading some far out YouTube comments every now and then. 40 year old guys sitting in the basement of their parent's house in a dirty t-shirt and sweat pants sitting in front of their computer screens come up with some "brilliant" comments.

FiveRFarm 4 years ago
The chickens that are so damaged, were damaged by another chickens. Chickens can be cannibals in all situations. They are omnivores...not vegans....sorry.
FiveRFarm 4 years ago
Out of the tens of thousands of chickens that are bred in one area, how can you not expect a rare few will have some kind of unfortunate defect or injury. Spending the money to try and stop that will probably skyrocket the price of chicken meat and eggs - then you can see some REAL protesting!
Although there are chicken farms that operate slightly better than this, this farm is like a luxury chicken hotel compared to farms in places like China.

Just a simple objective request here: what sources were used for the textual elements of this video?
sabsmarie86 4 years ago 2
Especially the picture of the "chicken" with "stunted growth syndrome" which looked exactly like a chick.
ForwardN2Unknown 2 years ago
well i would hope that 11 birds would be able to have suffice space etc. but you must also realize that this is how these people make a living. If they didnt do this then they couldnt provide food on the table and a roof over their heads for the family.
Now i don't agree with mistreatment of animals but be honest, if it came down between you starving, and saving a chicken, what would you choose? I know my decision would be quite simple
Underwood6 4 years ago
yes, yes nicely put.
humans and animals should all be treated equally.
kyuanaandmush 4 years ago
well technically vegans and vegetarians don't really say that. (the real ones not those wannabes) they do say something that is still hard to aquire.. better treatment and lesser chemistry in the production of meat for the consumer. that's not going to happen either.
springloadedchicken 3 years ago
Underwood, this is true, I have been to a place like this and the chickens absolutely had no care at all. No air, no space, no medical care. Every chicken I saw was sick. I want to kill the freaking people that treat poor helpless babies like this. I have 11 beautiful chickens at home who are healthy and happy and I can't even imagine treating any animal like this. We are animals, what makes us any different than or chickens for example. Just because we are smarter doesn't mean a single thing.
doghamstyluv95 4 years ago
Lastly, stunted growth is seen in all types of living creatures, including humans. Again, it is enevitable.
I am not aware of Foster Farms and their practices but I would suspect that this video was altered to show the negative side as opposed to showing the whole story, open mindedly.
Underwood6 4 years ago
Thirdly, when it is mentioned that they can be crippled due to the quick growth rate, it may be true but it is no different than us humans. There people in life with disabillities such as a deformation etc. This is going to happen...it is enevitable.
Underwood6 4 years ago
Really? So we selectively breed for people to grow morbidly obese and 10 times faster than their natural growth rate?
Um....no we don't. This isn't about what happens in nature, its about what humans are purposely forcing those animals to become via genetic manipulation. THAT is where the deformities come from.
THINK people!

This cicken that is shows with manure on its stomach is not that common. If you look closely at the other chickens later on in the video, there is no sign of this filthiness. Also, chickens do not enjoy being held like this so even those who complain of mistreatment are at fault.
Underwood6 4 years ago
My second point is that (this may not be the case in all barns) all manure is removed from the barn and the barn is washed with an anti-bacterial cleanser. New straw is chopped(or wood shavings are spread) for the next chickens that arrive. They always have constant access to fresh feed and water, so that should not be argued; for our opperation any ways.
Underwood6 4 years ago 2
I would first like to say that I live on a chicken farm and I have done so all my life.
First of all, When viewing the first scene of inside the barn, it took be by surprise to see the amount of movement by the chickens. When the lights are turned off, they quickly go to sleep or atleast rest quietly. My only possible explanation for this disturbance is that there must be some one or something causing this uneasiness.

how funny, people care when it is dogs ~ but people become critics when peta shows farm animal abuse! what makes one animal any more or less desearving of kind human treatment! ALL animals should be provided with appropriate care.

ok we make truck bodys for foster farms ive seen and been in there facilitys and you guys are taking the worst of the worst
johnmedemblik 4 years ago
Yes, I am against cruelty to animals, but I've gotta say, Foster Farms chicken served at the Foster Farms restaurant next to the Livingston, CA processing plant is astoundingly fresh and incredibly succulent. Makes you appreciate chicken, and what it should really taste like. As for the hen houses, let sunlight in, filter the air, and make a plot of grass for recreation. Then fry them up.

fucking sick that is man, how could humans be so heartless, how can we ever talk about human rights and respect each other if we can respect other living species around us. this is something a cavemen wouldnt do. we dont even need to eat meat, we can do perfectly fine with vegitables. infact research shows that people that are vegiterian are more intelegent than others.
revankader 4 years ago 2
I say, if you wanna eat meat, raise your own.
After seeing this, I don't wanna buy chicken in the store anymore. But, that doesn't mean that I won't raise my own chickens for me and my family.

I agree in a way... we've been eating them before, has effected us in no way shape or form... and I'll continue to eat them... if we hadn't seen videos like this we still eat the chicken... why stop eating it now
avlis13 5 years ago
because it shows you respect whta those animals go through! It shows you won't put up with the pain and suffering and the emotional distress of the workers and their underpayment.
Ligar250 5 years ago
if you were one of those chickens or one of the workers that needed the money from hanging chickens and watching their thouts get slit, I'm sure you would understand better.
Why don't you think about someone else other than your taste buds for one second.
Ligar250 5 years ago
Hmmm... I see... I resect the workers and what they have to go through, but the chickens. And, my tastebuds aren't "someone..." they are "something". And I wasn't thinking about them when I posted the comment. I say this about all foods. If we had never known anything about what was going on in the factories then we would continue to eat what we do now.
avlis13 5 years ago
And just saying if I were the workers I would not apreciate what you had just said right there... it seems like your classifying the workers and the chickens together.
avlis13 5 years ago
And sentence with those two things seems weird how you put it... it's like you mentioned the chicken for odd reason but to put it in there. Also it's "throats" not "thouts". I used and in this little post a lot but oh well.
