I think pop culture really elevates people in our society that should be the lest of our conserns not just pop stars in the media but also the people in every day life who seem to have the most knowledge of it. which i think kinda sucks
I think it's important cuz it gives us a sense as to where it is society is exactly.
culture is interesting.
sub culture, pop culture, counter culture, arts and culture.
Terence McKenna says "culture is not your friend."
It's basically habit. Anything truly novel has no culture.
Do we follow trends or people? What is culturally popular at the end of time; at the height of scientific progress and technological advancement and intellectual sophistication?
I just stumbled upon your vid. I would define pop culture as the greatest collection of interests among a specific group--so there's American pop culture, European pop culture, 80's pop culture, more eclectic clusters like, say, stoner pop culture, goth pop culture, etc. etc.--at least that's the way I'm feeling it right now.
And, as to whether it's important. I would agree that it is important but that's not to say it's either beneficial or detrimental or essential. I know some really smart people who know everything about their "pop" culture, and we all know some pretty vapid people who do as well I imagine. I think it's important as it allows people in those groups to mesh and connect.
I can only speak for myself, but since I grew up in various countries overseas, I found it really hard to connect with other people (and still run into some snags), when they start talking about shows they like as a kid or just general popular knowledge that I simply don't know.

you've got it for sure.
culture shouldn't define us but it does lead us somewhere..
but as you point out since it doesn't last it can't be so important.
its a thought provoking subject.

Anyway, good vid. Got me thinking.

Well said. I agree completely.
You have an interesting perspective as a international- I hadn't thought of that.
