  • Bang Splat!!! opps that was me :-) AWESOME

  • nice sound of history

  • To short...

    :/

  • ooooooohhhh so nice!!! Symphony of power :)

  • I want this job! Would turn it 24/7 if needed!!!

  • Heavy metal is nooby. THIS is what i listen to!

  • @OhaidereHowAreUTday BUUAHHAHA AIIGHT!

  • bravo mecanic

  • 0:44 I had an orgasm!!!

  • wow

  • Put that engine in my mercedes :)

  • The engine wasn't abled to bring enough power to make the tank trusty, so many tanks were lost because of engine problems.

I'd prefer Tiger I or Panther

  • ZOMG WHERE THE FUCK DID THEY GO AT :54

  • That sounds incredible !!

What a hell of machine .

  • Takes real men even to get this thing going!

  • Don't you Krauts have electric starters?? ;)

  • @kenns9 THey actually did. BUT, they didn't want to kill the battery life by using the electric starter in the cold. They mostly hand cranked them except when the weather was warm. Besides, I'm not so sure it works right at the moment anyway...

  • Dude, when he accelerates and spit that thin smoke, i almost jizzed in my pants.

  • imagine SS Panzer Regiment crew awakened at the tents in Ukrainian misty dawn ,when a Platoon of T-34 is coming..crew try hastily & frantically start it...

imagine.... this prized Maybach ..shut off...ScheiXX....:))

  • Now You know why its called "Tiger" !!!

  • .....get the feeling buddy facing the camera has been hit but a flying starter handle

  • gas engine bad for tank...

  • @CrazyVaniaMCC gas engine? i can assure you its diesel

  • @TheJosephagus Look information about maybach hl230 it's gasoline...

  • @CrazyVaniaMCC trust me mate i know my tigers, know petrol or gas engine would give even a 1/3 of the required power to push a 60tonne plus tank

  • @TheJosephagus Seriously where do you people find this misleading diesel engine crap?

  • @Randum587 my apologies, after doing further research on this i did discover that it is infact a petrol. how unusual i had no idea. soz about the troll appearance

  • @TheJosephagus oh well i guess everyone makes mistakes. apology accepted

  • Booaaa that is realy an Enginesound!! The poor soldiers had to hear this monster in the war

  • Bloody hell, a gyro starter! I didn't expect that

  • now that is a f*cking awsome sound

  • You have to crank it?!

  • @equitably Its just the cold weather start.

  • @equitably most tanks and airplanes of the time had to be started like this. Imagen a starter engine it would take to start up that Maybach engine!

  • this tank was certainly not the best tank the germans had, the tiger 5 was much to heavy. the tiger 4 ferdinant was much more agile. ps the german never attack with 50 at the same time, in any battle.

  • @brtjansen Dunno, there were many tanks in the battle of Kursk...

  • Eargasm!!! :D

    This tank is my love!

  • that's just the exhaust pipes making that noise.

  • I LOVE THE SOUND OF ROAR OF TIGERII OR KING TIGER

    BEST

  • Che potenza ! Fantastico !

  • Sweet! :)

  • That would be the scariest sound if you were in a warehouse to destroy some tanks and heard that in WW2

  • Fantastic. It is wonderful to see history preserved.

  • Gimme Back My Tank!!!

  • THIS IS A KING TIGER NOT A TIGER ONE!!1

  • @AllanGilber While this is a Tiger-B, the Saumur vehicle had a Maybach engine installed from a Tiger-E with modifications, when it was restored to running condition. So, when Tamiya needed the engine sound for their 1/16 Tiger-E, they used this Tiger-B :)

  • Top tier armor with under powered engine. Suspension isn't all that great despite the torsion bars but then again even modern tanks aren't all that well rounded. The Tiger's worst weakness was those unprotected track had they though ahead there many more would have survived the war.

  • T-34 is better.

  • Jizzed my Pants :*) Awesome!

  • my pants are all wet

  • Booaa what a wonderful sound

  • you'd never see 50 of them

    maybe 12

80 on the whole 1000 mile front at one time

  • t34 wasn´t the best ww2 tank, it was that effective because it was easy and cheap to build. no matter what you mean to know, tiger was the best tank, the king tiger in this movie is pretty cool but this tank was to heavy, to slow and to big. by the way the only reason why they call this monster king tiger, is because the tiger brought fear to the enemy. i know shermans especially the fireflys wasn´t bad but the best tankcrew of ww2 is a tiger crew and many tanks turn around if they saw a tiger

  • @Nastagar

Actually the Panther is the best tank of world war two...It had a lot of mechanical problems at first but when it was perfected, it was more than a menace. The Tiger I was the best heavy tank no doubt. No other tank but a Tiger struck more fear into the enemy.

  • @rainingblood1488 yes like i said, the name kingtiger was given for one reason...the fear a tiger can bring to the enemy. the kingtiger looks more lika a panther. as far as i know they were planing to call it kingpanther, but the nearly legendary reputation of the tiger tanks let them change their plans.

  • @Nastagar That is just a big load of nonsense. The Tiger Ausf. B never EVER got the name Konigstiger from any official department. The official names changed over time: initial name was Tiger-III or Tiger-3, since Porsche was working on a Tiger-II/Tiger-2. After the Porsche Tiger-II was rejected, the production vehicle from Henschel was named PanzerKampfwagen VI Ausfuhrung B (Sd.Kfz. 182). Later this changed to Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausfuhrung B.

  • @HerbertAckermans ok sorry it wasn´t exact enough. the name kingtiger was like a nickname given by the armored forces. and the enemy know this name very well.

  • @HKMANIAK There spinning a flywheel, the inertia from the flywheel cranks/starts the engine

  • @skb1958 Not exactly, they are starting the STARTER-motor with the handcrank. The startermotor THEN engages the Maybach HL230. The driver could also use a button to start the engine. You know, like the oh-so modern thing in cars these days :))

  • that's gotta suck having to crank start it, but what a beautiful sound it makes when it starts up.

then you have to let it turn over.

  • Wow this was the way of starting a WW2 tank?

  • while the army turn on all the tanks, they'll already lose the battle. lol

    great sound tho>>>>tiger roar

  • The Maybach sounds greeeat!!! this starting way is strange.....

  • this tank was probably the best tank made but i read something about it once it said it had a numerous amount of problems with the handling , but any ways it still the best tank made during ww2

  • @cammander263: Why didn't they win the tank battles with Russian tanks then?

  • Comment removed

  • @jardabc well the russians outnumbered them thats why . during ww2 the russians were the one of the hugest armys around , plus i think the russians would sometimes capture the tanks like the PZ5 or the tiger and use them against the king tiger

  • @cammander263 wrote "l i think the russians would sometimes capture the tanks like the PZ5 and use them against the king tiger"

Not more than any other army - the Germans were happy to use Russian tanks too when opportunity was there. Specifically there was no need for Russians to use anything in a dedicated role for fighting KingTigers, as they had their own dedicated weapons. Google "Zveroboy" - that is "Beast Killer" - designed with Tigers and Panthers in mind.

  • i love this beast's starting!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jesus fucking Christ!

  • Beautiful !!! - Erkele

  • Sorry but i just jizzed

  • nice, very nice sound, better than music

  • That's a German 23 liter gasoline V-12 engine with 700 horses. This my friends is some pretty nasty shit, nothing like an American V-8 LOL!

  • and who cares? V-2 diesel from T-34 have more advantage than this..

  • I don't even know why you want to compare a diesel with a gasoline engine. It makes little sense to me.

  • yes, give me thumbs down that will make you feel better. And if you dont know, Maybach have really low durability in Tiger tank. Gasoline is really not ideal for a tank....just another person who knows just parameters...

  • Look at the hypocrite. I gave you thumbs down because your obviously posting to the wrong guy. I think the Maybach was a very powerful engine and that there is something equivalent to "American power"; the Maybach HL 230.

The Germans didn't have any diesel engine with the equal power when the Tiger II was produced so I really don't understand why you are arguing that the T-34's 12-cyl. 500 PS diesel was better, it only had to power 26 Tons and not 44 tons (Panther) upwards.

  • You really missed point of my comment, again. Im not talking about parameters of engine, and by the way, V-2 could move with more than 26 tons, why do you think that T-34 can run almost 60 km/h? Anyway i was talking about overall verdict, Maybach was good engine, but it was often overweighted, and cant take it long. Early Panthers could made about 45 km/h, but if you don´t know, those engines often get on fire thanks to overheating (that´s why they were lately modified to lower speed).

  • Seriously go learn physics. A 500 horse power diesel engine that powers a 26 ton tank and makes it run about 55 km/h will also power a 56 ton monster and make it run about 40 km/h just as good as a 700 horse power engige would? That's really, really interesting.

Because it really just sounds like your implying that it can run almost 60 km/h because it's so good.

BTW. The engine fires were mainly a problem to early Tiger I tanks with the HL210 engine. It got replaced by the HL230.

  • And if we talk about King Tiger, engine in it must reach almost maximum RPM to start even move that thing (even worse reliability than Maybach used in Tiger, again, just only because of overweight). So, yes, Maybach was powerfull but used in wrong way.

  • Actually the engine in Tiger I and Tiger II are the same. And the HL230 engine was not used in the wrong way at all, should it have powered a Panzer IV instead maybe? Is that what you think?

  • So far I know, Tiger II used same engine as Panther did (46 tons vs 70). You did not understand what i wanted to explain (and no, I really did not want to say that 500hp can do same as 700, you misunderstand me). I don´t want to fight about this, especially when none of us was crew or constructers of those machines, we can theorize about this to early morning.

  • Still, I think Maybach had more worse than good characteristics (yes, it was strong engine but...) mainly because of wrong use ( for example engine for Tiger was dimensioned for 45 tons, not for almost 60. V-2 engine have still some reserves in this. I forgot to mention extreme fuel consumption which all german tanks had..). Well, whatever, let it be and lets go drink some beers. :-)

  • Why Germany used gasoline instead of diesel is really... a long story. And basically there was a one engine to fit them all motto. Let's have some fucking beers and be glad none of us had to drive these suicidal death machines!

  • I wouldn't fancy trying that with shells exploding around me. A nudge from another Panzer would do the job though!

  • You learn something new every day, I didnt know they had inertia starters on tanks. what a sound on that engine though! beautiful

  • German steel! Best Tank at the WW2 !

  • Great tank but it farly was not the best, it was not reliable, best ww2 was the T-34.

  • @opckw147

actually most people think that the Panther was the best tank they build, it had good armor and was still quite fast with a very good cannon.

the 88 on the Tiger was needed because there was no more Wolfram in germany, the Sherman Firefly used the 76,2MM shells with Wolfram and they were more effective then the 88

but i would prefer the Firefly the Panther and the T-34/85

  • @alphawinger THe 17-pounder was not more effective than the L71 88mm you moron.

  • @Robert111

it was in comparison, as the 17-pounder is 76,2MM and 88 is (obviously) an 88MM shell.

btw, i never called you names so im wondering why you do.

  • @alphawinger I don't know what you are saying now, but here is what you said before "Sherman Firefly used the 76,2MM shells with Wolfram and they were more effective then the 88". This statement is COMPLETELY FALSE. In no manner was the 17-pounder gun more effective. With comparable ammunition, it had less penetration and of course less explosive power, and less energy. I never called you names.

  • sounds good

  • I realy want to know who the knothead was who decided it was a good idea to park himself in front of the camera to watch.

  • i start my car exactly the same way

  • grandioso!!!! realmente a uno se le hacen lagrimas en los ojos al escuchar tal bestia rugir, eso es mantener la historia!.... muy parecido a cuando arranque mi dodge m37 con el motor pegado ajajajajaj

  • The "Tigerfibel" (Tiger handbook) recommends to start the engine with the crank - to save wear on the battery. There is a somewhat under-dimensioned electric starter too, for emergency battlefield use.

  • monster!

  • That was awesome!

  • Most interesting to see an inertia starter in action. Presumably there wasn't enough juice in the battery, if it had been standing for a while. Wasn't the Bf 109 started in the same way?

  • yeh and i guess it some times started on fire with the battery

  • You need to see the Maus.

  • They need to get the startermotor flyweel going, before engage it

  • what a sound ;-) now listen to 50 of them as they come on the battlefield

  • Comment removed

  • thats exeggerated bullshit

  • and then listen to 500 B-17s bombing them into the stoneages -LOL

  • @dtmfl67 They'd likely hit everything but the tank. B-17s are not known for their accuracy. Why do you think they needed so many? To compensate for inaccuracy.

  • @halo07guy2 No, we needed many because we'd risk more bombers than the british flying daytime bombings, hitting military targets, to avoid killing civilians where as the british would just carpet bomb whole cities, killing anything in thier path. We would lose dozens of bombers per mission.

  • @gtaclevelandcity Strategic bombing killed people. The Americans cared no more for people caught in bombing raids than anyone else did. Strategic bombing even with sights as accurate as the Norden still dropped most of their bombs over an area covering many city blocks. Their was no way to avoid civilian casualties.

  • @CaptHawkeye Right, that's why we focused hitting military structures (bridges, factories, rail yards, etc.) instead of carpet bombing German towns. The British are the ones who carpet bombed entire cities. I'm not saying we didn't kill civilians, I'm just saying that we didn't do it on purpose.

  • @footmarshian I am afraid that there where never 50 of them in the same place . maybe the germans had 200+- Tiger 2 operational at the same time ...

  • @footmarshian and break down after driving for 100 meters

  • @F4Wildcat more likely run out of gas before a breakdown

  • More like a stuka than a tiger! XD

  • I think, the engine needs some RPM, before ignition starts. Older propeller-planes are also started this way.

    Beautiful beast !

  • What do they do by turning the crank? Do they charge an inductor, large capacitor, or something like that? Or is it just an inertial flywheel than is then engaged to the engine?

  • Re: crank

That's an inertia starter. As you guessed, they're winding up a flywheel...never heard of a tank being started this way though...excellent clip!

  • DAMN FU***** Beautiful!

  • I LOVE IT. because the king tiger is very rare. that make me sad. but THIS... :) LOVE IT^^

    [sorry for my english]

  • The King Tiger from SAUMUR (FRANCE) Tank Museum is THE ONLY ONE still kept in working condition in the world !!!!

  • damn shit think about what those GIs felt in the war when say heard such a fucking steelbeast commin scary shit O___O

  • err so whats the one in bodinginton tank museum then ? that works gun an all

  • how to win a war like this??? lol

  • how exactly do you start that motor

  • it do really sound like a tiger growling

  • the engines a a petrol maybach HL230 nearly 1000bhp and a shit load of torque nearly as much a beast as the king tiger its self

  • i'm not sure ,but diesel engines did'nt have starters until late 44,so you needed a pony gas motor ,or hand crank to fire them..........?great footage!!!!!!!!

    was that a duetz..maybach engine..?

  • How did they lose the war ??

THE WHOLE WORLD HAD TO FIGHT THEM...

F--king Jealously got you ALL only Backwards..

Their Tanks Are Now In Your Museums..

  • and there cars are in your drive ways and there investments are in your banks and there ideas are a live and well in rich peoples minds

  • and their rockets go into space and you drive on their freeways nad yo watch every second show on history chanel about them.........

  • That's worth 20 milion dollars!

  • geil

  • Were iss tha musemum???

  • saumur france!

  • SooooomCoooool!

  • If only they made tanks like that now a days.

  • So cool !

  • What is in fact that howling sound like a siren? Is it part of the engine/ starting process? Sounds very strange.

  • It's the flywheel that is used to start the starter engine, which then engages the actual Maybach engine.

  • thanks

  • thats an inertia starter...!

    thanks for uploading

  • badass, simply badass

  • just like starting my car

  • german engineering at its very ww2 best. totally awesome. thank you germany, for this beautiful machine. and where do i find one to put in my own garage?

  • @tubbymarshall is your garage even big enough? no offensive of course

  • Yea! Thats my fav.

  • damn.. i wanna have one of those!!!

  • Jesus McChrist!!! WTF... Look at the flames...

  • All german tanks used petrol and no diesel. T-34 used diesel.

  • what a awesome piece of machinery.

i would of never figured that they were started like that

  • they would have had electric ignition dont forget this tank is over 60 years old some components dont exist anymore to replace them also its gertman made ofcourse they wouldnt start them like this in the heat of battle

  • Actually it is a petrol engine - hence the high fuel consumption. And an inertial starter, which is why they crank up the flywheel first....

  • awsome ^.^ i love the king tiger ^.^

  • Totally wrong mate. All German tanks of WW2 used petrol engines. Only some of their armoured cars like the sdkfz 234 used Tatra diesel engines. They didn't blow up like the Shermans because of their better armour protection and fuel/ammunition storage. Shermans 'brewed up' because of their insufficient armour protection, ammo storage and petrol engines. They were even fitted with 'wet' ammunition storage reduce the risk of catching fire. And some allied tanks were diesel powered as well.

  • Sorry, they were gasoline engines. They didn't blow up because of their armor. If they were hit in the rear they would blow up.

  • The BEAST still lives

  • Tanks museum of Saumur, France

  • Especially in russia, or what? No, just kidding

  • Inertial starter... gets you warm on a cold morning!

  • Once heard, you'll never forget! Great Video*****

  • I wonder how much petrol the tank used just for that short running time =D

  • lets see more ,near perfect

  • HOLY SHIT OMG. I WANT ONE NOW!!!

  • man that i call a engine. dude nice nice nice
