  • I love Entwistle so much, an underrated bass player and not a half bad singer to boot.

  • Comment removed

  • @gregdonedirtcheap zak starkey... ringo stars kid

  • John Entwistle is one of the best if not the best bass player ever.

  • its great seeing Pete playing real lead guitar along withthose famous power chords of his......truly a gifted guitarist......one of the best accoustic players as well in my opinion !

  • sweet how john seems shy when the spotlight is on him , best bassist ever and modest ...top bloke

  • It is scary how John died. I am now 51 and I have been in New England med Center twice from minor heart attacks. they put me in the cardiology ward for 5 days on each epposide. Yes It was due from the use and abuse of cocaine. It is like playing russian roulette with my life. I hope I never use it ever again . Thank God for the folks in Boston AA-Frank C

  • If this isn't great then i don't know what is!!

  • Pete looks angry.. i wouldnt like to piss pete off...

  • @theslipknotfan111

He might bite your cock off!

  • @rimmyou69 he might do yes? :L

  • pete did well with his guitar solos in this wowwww !

  • almost as much as i hate the subject of this song LOLLLLLL burn

  • John loved those Buzzards, didn't he?

  • The OX rocks!! Daltrey's backing vocals kick ass, and Pete is just amazing as usual!

  • ‎"The Ox", the best bassist in the world ever! Kind of "Jimi Hendrix" for bassists....ou talvez, simplesmente, o "Pelé" do Baixo (ou Contra-baixo)

  • @mmrezend Dude, you're speaking two languages at the same time, cool. But i disagree, Maradona is better than Pele (in my opinion) :-)

  • John and Pete in particular in this clip hit a perfect ten on the Who brilliance meter, Rog is clearly into it, and Zac Starkey plays the drums like he's in the fucking Who. It doesn't get better.

  • One of their best songs, never got the hype it deserves. Also one of the best bands ever, so much talent on one stage. Their music keeps getting better, how many other bands can say that?

  • One of their best songs, never got the hype it deserves. Also one of the best bands ever, their music keeps getting better, how many other bands can say that?

  • My bit scar skin smells like the chicken chips i was having before and i cant stop smelling it

  • i want johns strap

  • If anyone ever tries to say that Pete can't play, this is the video to pint them too, fricken amazing. John may hate the song, but I'm sure he loved the instrumental parts. The Who ROCK!!!

  • @staunched Don't think he hates his own song. He said he hated the song's subject person.

  • @12stringsforme Oh yeah, of course, misunderstood, or the song just confused me, ta ;)

  • love this song! rip

  • My fucking mind just melted and poured out of my ears in a glowing, steaming, multi-colored stream. 3:30-ish to 5:00-ish especially has to be something you observe to prove to yourself that WE ARE HERE FOR A REASON and not just some cosmic accident, and THE WHO JUST FUCKING PROVED IT.

  • I was at this show. Already eleven years ago. Man, time is flying.

  • needs keiths thunderous drumming!

  • that is a great bass :D

  • pete is my guitar idol for life!!

  • Zak looks like a young Keith!

    RIP John.

  • It is amazing what a body of work the Who has. They must have 50 songs which were hits, plus scores more.

  • i knew the drums wouldnt have the impact of the original but fair enough, Moon aint at the kit :/

  • when did Pete start taking lessons with Jeff Beck?

  • Roger go away don't need ya

  • word

  • Who's that on drums? is that Ringo's kid? Damn good job!

  • @scottalias

    Yes it is. Zak Starkey.

  • Try Asian women **busizz4me.info**

  • Who.....GOAT.

  • Keyboards: John "Rabbit" Bundrick

  • LOL. I love how John just lets Roger sing the high notes.

  • @TheDonVincitore

    that's epic :D

    typical for him.

    best bassist ever!

  • love to watch dem geezers rock!

  • John and Pete. The Gods of guitars! They look so amazing together.

  • John Enstwistle was the guitarist in studio...

he was one of the best bassist in the world

  • @ammar255

he played bass and french horn in the studio however live like all of the members of the who a switch flipped on and they turned into the greatest band of all time

  • O.M.G. - The Who w/Zak Starkey on drums nail "My Wife" in a great jam!

  • love the fact this old dude plays a that metal looking bass:)

    OXIE still owns!

  • Roger shouldn't have sung along with John. This was supposed to be John's solo. It's meant for one person anyway. Oh well.

  • i'd agree if anyone says the solo should be for John, but this may be the best Pete's ever done as far as i know.

  • YEAH , RODGER SHOULDA HELD BACK FROM THIS ONE & JUST LET THE OX DO HIS SONG...

  • @17SPIKE17 Hey man, theres a few versions of this song where Roger just does backup, and doesnt harmonize.

  • whoa! who woulda thought this would be a great jamming song! and some say Townshend's not a good lead guitarist...

  • I absolutely love his guitar strap lol.

  • The Who, the greatest rock and roll band.

  • What a GREAT GUY John Entwistle the QUIET ONE Miss you on stage performing

  • one of the best who songs!

  • Anyone know what bass he's playing?? 5*

  • @eezy1972 a status graphite buzzard

  • @eezy1972 it's a status graphite buzzard and it costs about 4900 dollars

  • Fuck, Townshend goes off in this one!

    I fuckin' love it!!

They were playing very good in 2000...

I was lucky to see them in Denver a month later on 24 August 2000.

    LONG LIVE ROCK!!

  • Greatest live band ever

  • For months I've had people telling me that Townshend's lead playing on this tune is stellar & proves that he was/is a good lead guitarist.

I can't fucking see it at all...one scale in one key...a lot of the time he's just making noise & playing chords & not soloing!

Rocking out on two strings between two frets may sound powerful & good...but that doesn't mean it's technically inclined, difficult, or musical.

Pete's a great guitarist for being a minimalist & getting so much out of so little.

  • @asmorgan88

Have you heard his playing during the song 'Water' or 'Naked Eye' at the Isle of Wight?

  • Both guitarists are bloody incredible!

  • I was their...i miss the OX

  • That guitarist is having way too much fun.

  • good version! the "vegas job" video of this is just painful to watch. What a crazy bassist! Major influence on my bass playing! Check out "love her madly" one of the songs I uploaded.

  • What do you mean by over-reacting?

  • Wow what a cool jam.

  • Bass of epic proportions

  • eliud se la pela al bajista...

ya se esque no conocen la histori:(

    Ey, the who !!!!!

and keith moon?:( :( y he is my favorite drummer

  • i cant beilieve he played the bass like that, i mean jesus holy fucking shit

  • I dont want to side with either Roger, Pete or John when Im talking about singing skill. Roger can wail like nobody's business, that is for sure, and he's a great, versatile singer. At the same time however, I dont really like hearing anyone but John sing My Wife, its his song, and its what Im used to. Pete is great too, but not better than the rest. Its all about the song in question...

  • this will always be an Entwistle song no matter what and all other versions will be compared to this standard. and they won't meet it.

  • So true! Roger should not be singing this song.

  • @FoggMachine5 Roger is helping John because John's voice especially around the time of this concert was shit!

  • okay mrmott44 john is NOOOOOOOOTTTTTT a better singer check out baba o' riley and won't get fooled again and im free and you better you bet and EVERY other who song!!!!!!!!

  • At 6:44 Pete gets pissed at some jerk fan!

  • John and pete rip that shit up!!!!It's awsome!!It almost looks like pete gets pissed at a fan in the audiance,Then he goes NUTS on the rest of the solo,AWSOME!!!HELL YEAH!

  • He is the one who made the BASS what it is today!

  • Roger ruins this song. John is a way better singer. Check out vids of "Twist and Shout" by the Who

  • still rocking.....

  • It looks like Roger and John are facing each other in who sings the fastest at the beginning.

  • I love how Entwistle backs off on the high notes, "machine gun" and all that, and lets Daltrey sing it

  • Sometimes it looks like his fingers has no bones.

    Lol

  • Ok,,, the Ox just tears it up on this version,

    best bass player ever,,,,,,,

Zak is an awesome replacement for my idol. I still am learnig from him.

Pete,,,,what the hell can you say about Pete,,,at least he doesnt knock over the amps in this one.

Roger doesnt twirl the mic once, I think I would rather hear him just do the move ons, the Ox sings this very well thank you.

My band covers this song,,,,take a look,,,,,,,,

    Long Live the Who !

  • just goin threw the motions....

    but

    can you ....blame them?

its been years im 40 and i see it...

thunder fingers didnt evenwant to play it

  • they smoke you and your crappy bands even at this stage in their career. Tool.

  • bostuds

  • john contributed a lot of great songs to the who

  • What kind of bass is John playing ?

  • warwick buzzard, expenisive as hell.

  • actually, a status buzzard.

  • thanks for correcting me, stupid mistake on my part.

  • WOW...the OX tends to be forgotten as a great Who-songwriter...but not by me!! R.I.P. John, you were also the world's best bass player whose influence will continue!!

  • @sendanor Especially 'Boris the Spider' ! Miss the Ox

  • @sendanor same with me!

  • pete is a genius and all Who fans know that and we dont give a shit what anyone else thinks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • a frickin greed

  • go to hell

  • Boring? BORING?!?!? THEY BROKE THE RECORD FOR THE LOUDEST CONCERT EVER!! they are literally the most exciting band ever, end of story.

  • 126 db i think

  • Saw The Ox with his band: I'm quite certain his bass rig was set up so that he had one entire amp and speaker block for each string. Too bad the guy's voice was shot, by the time Y2000 arrived: he'd oversung so many Who gigs, especially when Pete laid back and didn't deliver his assigned harmony parts. Why? He couldn't "hear" the note in his mind's ear: Roger and Pete have the same range, and the natural high part always went to Entwistle, so that phantom 3rd part was too illusive, usually~jk

  • At this point, his amp rig consisted of three parts: he had a stereo Digitech distortion/effects processor that fed the left and right channels of an Ashdown power amp, which powered the top 2x12" cabinets. An Ashdown RPM-1 fed clean highs and mids into another Ashdown power amp, again powering two 2x12" cabinets. The RPM's lows went into another power amp, assigned to two flared bin 15" cabinets.

In John Entwistle Band, the Digitech was in the RPM's FX loop so that *everything* was distorted.

  • You can see two seperate rack cases, both loaded with Ashdown preamps and Digitech effects processors - I'm fairly certain that one of them was just a spare. But the Status Buzzard had a stereo output, so he could have been using both of them - one per pickup, rather than one per string.

  • What a fucking awesome song!!

  • This is the best post-Moon line up. I really enjoy Zack Starkey's drumming. I still can't get used to Pete using strats though.....I don't like the sound too much.

  • I really like Pete using the strats through the Vibro-King amps. I hated the Schecter years, personally. I thought they didn't have enough low-end ... sounded "tinny" to me.

  • the gibsons sounded best though.

  • Pete Townsend...The Beethoven of our time..

  • I don't mean to swear, but The Who are and always have been FUCKING BRILLIANT!!!!!

  • good im not the only one who thought that

  • @houndz11 - I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY!!!

  • @houndz11 even though John wrote this song.

  • for my money THE greatest rock band ever

  • I've seen John Entwistle play more notes in one song than most bands play in a whole show!...miss you John and Keith!

  • That section from 3:40-4:45 f'n rocks. Great show, Pete was on fire for most of it, although he did go off into outer space a few times during this show.

  • Zak Starkey is an amazing dummer but not as good as keith moon R.I.P. and also R.I.P. the great john entwhistle one of the greatest basistests of all time(He had also had good vocals

  • it's "my lifes in jeprody"

  • John's a character in this one! Long Live Rock, Long Live The Who!

  • I believe John Entwhstle wrote this song.

  • Yes he did.

  • john and pete are TEARING IT UP. Very nice.

  • Fantastic sound. This is one of my favorite songs of all time. The entire band is great.

  • i always thought the first words in this song was "my wife's got double d's"

  • Did someone say that bassists just stod still and only played three notes in rock music?

    Think again.

Entwistle & Moon, R.I.P Best band ever.

  • I got another counter attack aganist who thinks bass players can't be wonderful rockers

Listen to the song "Four Wheel Drive" of the Bachman Turner Overdrive, Turner rocks no the vocals....

  • Amazing how a nearly deaf Entwistle could mimic the not-quite-as-deaf Townshend's leads during the end solo break.

  • one of the beast songs ever by the best band ever

  • Excellent !!

  • best base ever

  • The SKULL HAND on John's guitar strap is AWESOME.

That's cute ..Roger is 'helping out'.

  • Nothing better than seeing John reaching for the volume knob on the Buzzard!

  • Damn, Pete and John are amazing. Hell the who band is.

  • Heavens ALIVE! That was awesome! The Who rocks!

  • Zak is smokin!

  • I shook his hand. i will always love him!

  • Listen to John's playing at 4:30.

Well, in fact, listen to him all the time...:-)

  • Never mind my comment from last night. Yes I see it was the show in camden N,J I saw the Who 16 times and what I remember about this show was the great set list.Wodefull maedly on the song 5:15. The last time I saw the OX alive. R I P Greatest Rock Bassist if all time.

  • What part of New Jersey was this Show? I was at this tour and saw it in Camden,NJ just across the Delaware river from Philadelphia ware I'm from. Just curious because that was the last Show I saw the Ox Play. R I P

  • The OX rocks!!R.I.P. The greatest bass guitarist of all time!

  • Hah, funny. Pete does the same kind of screaming feedback solo as in Cleveland '75 (which you can find in the box on the right).

  • Great song....rock on Roger Daltry, such an unsung hero. John you were too...many thanks for this upload..wish they'd have played it more!

  • Fantastic upload!

  • thanks for posting this! great to see the ox ranting a bit about the mosquitos and the funny comparison he makes between them and the subject matter of the song - lol!

  • lol

  • "New strap - URRK help I'm having a heart attack... I'm SORRY Roger..."
