  • aaww the mother risked her life to save the little one...

  • they should of put humans in there instead....jk

  • Very interesting project. Good to know that this is going on. I wonder though, how (in)effective is training them in this habitat? I'm pretty certain their natural habitat is nothing like this. For instance, I'm sure their normal prey can't run as fast as blesbucks. Also, their stripping patterns are probably completely ineffective in this environment. Also, aren't tigers usually found in forests? I'm pretty sure hunting in a forest is vastly different from hunting on the plains.

  • The tiger is a very adaptable and resilent animal, they live across the snow of the Siberian Winter, the dense tropical rainforest of South East Asia, the deep jungles of India, it hunts in mangrove swamps. It even survived in the caspian desert, where it hunted primarily on wild pigs. With that said, there is actually not much concern over the issue of adaptability. These tigers are adapting well, and are fully capable of hunting on their own as of now.

Thank you for your concern. =)

  • its good to learn them to hunt. its the only way to save it. those blesboks arent worth less than the tiger, but in the wild they would be hunted by a tiger too. thats not against nature

  • The reason is simple. These antelopes(blesbucks) are prey and the tigers are predator, this is just a normal hunt. If you wish to save every antelope then all predators would starve to death. Lions, hyenas, leopards, cheetahs will all starve.

These are south china tigers, they are extinct in the wild since 2002 and only 60 of them are left in Zoos(all in China), which one do you think requires more help from us?

Experts predict that by 2010, south china tigers will go extinct completely.

  • PTigris nice answer

  • the blesbok is almost extinct in the world im surprised they use them as disposable antelope, why not send some wildebeest?

  • Actually, the IUCN placed them at "least concerned" category, so they are not really in danger of extinction. They are not "disposable" antelope. The big 42ha camp where the Tiger hunts also have springboks, blue/black wildebeests etc. However on that particular day, the tigress chose to target the blesbuck group.

Its very natural really, the tigers have many different wild prey to choose from, and they don't just stick with one, they are versatile hunters and can prey on all prey species there.

  • This antelope is called blesbok. They shouldn't have used them, as guinea pigs

  • They are not guinea pigs. These Tigers have proven themselves to be efficent hunters. The 42ha camp consist of Blue/black wildebeests, impala and other African Game, but the tigress just happened to pick to prey on the blesbok.

She had a choice, and today she chose the blesbuck. There are also days where she picked wildebeests and impala, we have seen that but have no filmed such footage.

So again, these blesboks are not guinea pigs are genuine prey items for the tigers.

  • I meant, the researchers should not allow the blesbuck's to be hunted, since there seemed to have some fences or may be electrical poles I am not sure. So I though they were released there just to catch those specific antelopes. Now I believe you that it is not so. Thanks for clarification

I fully support the conservation effort of South China tiger, but this also has to be applied to other tiger sub-species & other felids, as well.

  • If you want to feel sorry for something, feel sorry for the South china Tiger, they were hunted till they go extinct in the wild. And all 60 of them left in captivity are descended from 6 wild caught founders in 1955, so all of them are very inbred.

They are in grave danger of extinction, they are now considered the most endangered animal in the "top 10 most endangered animal" list.

So who would you want to save? The South China Tiger needs help now, and this is the only way to save them.

  • Is that so? What about these tigers here? Are they from the same genetic lines? No wonder the ones in captivity stopped breeding.

  • The reason why they stopped/slow downed in breeding in captivity was because they are inbred! As mentioned, they were all descended from 6 founders, therefore many of them now are infertile due to inbreeding.

Our project is very successful in the breedinf of these Studbook Chinese tigers perhaps due to the fact that they are living in natural environment which facillitates better breeding behavior and habits.

  • these are China tigers, one chinese women(sorry i forgot her name) running a saving China tiger project in SA, all these tiger are Zoo broned, they are trying teach then to hunt again, so the next generarins could release to the wild.

  • Her name is Li Quan(Chinese: 全莉)Yes you are right, these tigers are captive-bred and are going through rewilding training. They are now able to take down antelopes and other prey items.

  • those are AFRICAN antelope. those aren`t south china tigers, but bengal tigers by the name of ron and julie, in which dave salmoni had introduced them to africa in an effort to teach them to hunt.

  • You got it right. It called, "Living With Tigers." You can clearly see the wire fence that they put up. Clearly the gazelles have no where to run in this small open plain.

  • Hello there, those aren't Bengal Tiger, those are purebred South China Tiger and yes, they are in Africa. They are not Ron and Julie from Dave's project, they are from another project called Save China's Tigers, please visit our homepage for more information. It is a completely different project that rewild rare south china tiger. Anyway, this project has not been shown as a documentary on tv yet.

    please visit: triple w(dot)savechinastigers(dot)org

  • Anyway, that is not a small plain, that is a 42ha camp, and just in case you don't know. 42 ha is extremly large, as big as many reserve in Africa, so there is equal chance between predators and prey in the survival game.

  • is that gazelle or gemsbok, kinda looks lika gemsbok from far

  • Hello there, That is a Blesbuck.

  • I thought it was called a bontebok

  • Hem, you can go to wikipedia and search blesbuck or blesbok, i created that page there on Wiki and i gave quite a detailed description of the blesbuck, you can check it to confirm it if you don't believe me.

  • well only like 50 left in the wild I think...

If they have to introduce em to Africa, so be it, South Africa would look after em.....

I wonder what harbin park in china could do, to release siberian tigers, maybe could try another continent, like North America, where its cooler climate, canada, alaska?

  • There are less than 30 of them left in the wild, and our project does no plan to release them in Africa, Africa is just the training ground for the Tigers since China do not have enough land/game for rewilding tigers, so the Tigers will be sent back to China one day.

  • what will once they get back to china, land/ game.what they going to do about land game....I thought they where going to release them in Bloemfontein? cheetah country etc

  • Hello there, I am a volunteer of Save China's Tigers. They will be returned to a pilot reserve in China a few years later, and no, they will not stay in Africa.

  • Hey, I have a better idea, quit saving tigers and just kill the people that hunt them. No trial no jury, just line them up and blow their heads off. totaly agree. FUCK HUNTERS AND FUCKING ZOOS. LEAVE ANILMALS IN THEIR NATUREAL HABITATE TO HUNT. INSTEAD OF FUNKING HUNTING THEM AND THROWING THEM BACK TO THE WILD...THINK IT'S GOING TO BE EASY TO COMPETE IN THE WILD. PEOPLE OF THE WORLD ARE FUCKING IDIOTS.

  • I hope this will get the message out and bring in those 10 dollars for helping this SPECIES, as this is most likely the final battle to save it.

  • Hello there I am a Member of Save China's Tigers, Thanks for your support, i am sure, with optimisitic and supportive people like you, our project will really succeed. Thank you once again. Such support is greatly appreciated.

  • What a wonderful video!

What a big step for the tigers!

    Was that Tigerwoods hunting?

One can tell the obvious difference between this tiger's hunting and those of the Harbin tiger park. They are getting there.

It is easier for 1 million people each to donate 10 dollars than to get 10 people/firms to donate a million dollars each.
