  • fuck you thumbs up for watching this video in 2011. Thumb mine up for FEDERER US OPEN 2011 CHAMPION!!

  • Thumbs up if you are still watching these stroke videos in 2011!

  • for those who think he's using his wrists to get additional speed, just to let u no, roger's wrist is relexed. like, no muscle movement relaxed. so, why does roger's racquet get incredible flex that looks like its coming from the wrist?

because he is using his legs, trunks and an INCREDABLE amount of shoulder turn that makes his wrist into a trampoline affect. he takes his arm back, and in the moment after the swing, the racquet just FLYS forward. if you do this in the correct way, you'll b GOD.

  • every1 stop at 0:09 are u suppose to hav ur arm bent lik tat and hav the head of the racket facing the back of the court when u hit a forehand? cuz i've seen novak and nadal do the same thing or do u only do that when ur hitting wit a lot of topspin? cuz in the forehand findamentals u (Will) didnt tellus tat but in the forehand progressions u told us tat

  • wow even though its in slowmotion it still has alot of spin

  • FAKE!!

  • @nasnek Do you honestly think this vid is fake????!!!

  • @liedetecter2000 lol no i was random trolling the videos.

  • are you supposed to use a lot of wrist when you hit forehands?

  • @noobsdumb No, the wrist must be laid back at the point of contact. The racquet speed comes from the trunk and legs.

  • I don't see how he gets his wrist so damn loose.

  • pause at 0:59 it looks like the ball is gonna smack the camera guy in the face

  • If I could gripe with one thing in Roger's forehand, it's the excessive wrist snap he does at contact. I believe it helpsproduce more spin/power but also leads to his notorious mis-hits off the forehand wing. Give and take...

  • @showbiz216 Roger does not "snap" the wrist. After contact the wrist simply releases and continues forward with the natural path of the racquet. The speed on the forehand is mostly generated with the hips and shoulders while the arm hold the racquet in place.

  • @Khodirev I don't mean after contact, I mean just prior to contact he drops the wrist about 3-4 inches, pretty substantially and noticably, something other players don't do.

  • look at the ball, the spin is brutal, imagine nadal's spin double brutal!

  • Wonderful!

  • Beautiful.

  • Gee strong wrist...

  • wow.. i missed this video .. and i thought that i watched them all...

thx Will.. this videos is really good to watch every detail in federer's forehand...

  • that looks kind of like will off to the left at :45

  • Great vids. Thanks.

  • Lokks like lot of wrist involved

  • good

  • Respekat ........

  • 0 41 beautiful slice

  • Roger Love

  • @federerbestclass You said that already. Please use your brain a bit

  • roger is perfect

  • good timing at every shot..he's swiss-made

  • so much wrist action

  • Were you actually on the court to get this footage?

  • right on the fence

  • he's not even trying... look at his left arm :|

  • what should it be doing?

  • i dont like practice vids....cuz there not really tryin

  • do you think if he wasn't trying he'd be hitting in the middle of his racquet every time, with perfect timing? You don't practice by smashing forehands every shot, practice is for getting your rhythm and making sure your timing is correct. why do you think these guys are so good? they practice.

  • mm, and they practice CORRECTLY. not like weekend warriors you warm-up for two seconds and start swinging like a maniac thinking the harder the better.

  • A lot of people also go out and try really hard because they want to "groove the forehand" or "get the feeling right." or practice that one shot. Pros aren't going to learn anything new in that warmup. They just do it to get the muscles going. If this was away from a tournament you can bet he'd be working hard and really trying. Here he is just getting loose.

  • im sayin....if u wanna study a stroke....dont watch this.....watch his match shots

  • its a lot easier to copy this, trying to copy what he does in a match is about 100 times harder. this is good for people to learn.

  • A-Rod's forehand is a joke compared to Federer's..

  • look at he's timing the ball perfectly

  • so eastern^^ yeah federer always jumps when he's about to crack a forehand that bounced high coz he's grip is eastern he needs to jump

  • um i dont think this is training or anything because he is playing with his rolex

  • 0:55 look at that topspin in slow motion. wonderful. wish I can see all my incomming ball like that.

  • he moves wrist sooo much but he still hits the ball well

  • This is because of his motion... If you extend your arm instead of having it bent and use an Eastern grip, you will end-up with something similar.

There's plenty of way to hit, but I'll split them right away. You either hit like Roddick or like Federer. These are completly at the opposite, but work both pretty well, although Federer's forehand is a better weapon.

  • I think you have more to learn from the no. 1 player in the world than he has to learn from you.

  • Love the last shot.

    High Forehand.

  • This is a great camera angle to really be able to see the different forehand strokes Fed uses and most pro players utilize. I see OTS/classic forehand, the reverse/buggy whip forehand, Windshield wiper, even slice forehand. Mmm GREAT VID!

  • My favorite are high forehands. When Federer nails one airborne, it so powerful, so fluent. Love when he does that.

There's one slow-motion of him hitting it at Wimbledon 2004 or 2003. He was taking it perhaps 10 feet from the net. You know the ball coming is going fast, but it seems so slow when you see Federer's racket accelerating.

There's an other one fro mthe baseline he nails it 97mph. 97mph from over his shoulder hanging in the air... This is ridiculous!

  • He can still hit high balls using eastern grip.

  • Well, he nails it in the mid 90s mph airborne... Yes, Eastern grip and the ball is so high over the shoulder he has to jump to get leveled.

What did you expected anyway? It's Federer.

  • It's amazing, watching the angle of the ball in slow motion.

  • can we hit the same like federer with a semi western forehand?

  • yes you could, i use semi western too

  • Well, it's easier to hit like Roddick with a semi-western. Because of the angle of the racket face, it's easier to open it brushing more like A-rod; extending your arm and adjusting the angle can be done, but it's quite harder.

  • god just look at his eyes glued on the ball! it's just beautiful to watch!

  • It's kinda funny watching the ball actually spin from this angle.

  • Wow- this clearly shows at least 3 different follow-thrus - windshield wiper, over the shoulder, and reverse forehand. Which means, the pros do whatever it takes to hit the best shot and arent so hell-bent on trying to hit the "same" shot every time. That's kinda scary!

  • haha nice observation!

  • It's great to see how early Fed takes the ball.

  • thanx for posting these videos and gr8 material...you guys are doing a terrific job... keep that up!

  • poetry in motion. FYB, you guys rule! all tennis lovers appreciate your vids big time

  • I think this is one of the best videos I've seen which demonstrate how a strong forehand is hit.

  • thanks for posting these things up...i'm a fan of the vids that you guys make...it improves so much of my game since watching them...us fans will be waiting for more vids from you guys...thanks again for uploading...

  • np!

  • It can but it's not due to the angle of the racket... it's due to the amount that Fed or any other player pronates during the course of the forward swing. We will be making a video explaining this because it's a complicated area of the forehand.

  • truly the most fenomenal forehand in the game! awesome

  • FYB2007 question:

are the first forehands somewhat of a variation of the windshield wiper ? and the last one is a plain flat forehand ?

I kinda hit similar to this and would like to improve my technique

thanks for posting this material and you lessons. I follow them and watch them every day

  • yep you're right. good eye! thx for the nice comments.

  • can you please give ma a closer look about federer's combined grip?

  • That's one of the best video!!! Thanks for the gem!!!

  • wow crazy! look at the logo@

  • 1:00 look how much it is spinning even in slomo
