This is so true. They should have never raised the level cap. IMO the most they should have done was raised the level cap to 79. They shouldve Added new spells and abilities that are merit based and added gameplay and monsters that are more challenging and different rather than make it more of a grindfest than it already was. Game went further away from being about skill. Story,quests, missions, new areas, new NMs, new glory and fame shouldve have been prioritized, not raising the level.

@BretStroup The FFXI playerbase is slowly dwindling so they are merging servers soon =(. So any info I would be able to give you would be obsolete within a few weeks.

well this is good and kinda bad well first off even if the excalibur is still a lvl 75 weapon its effect is still awesome plus with the new hp to gain it makes it the best weapon still! And plus redmage doesn't have to main heal no more.
the abysseas weapons r on the same lvl with relic weapons depending on job. i still think excal is better weapon since hp is higher then normal ... and with brew... the additional effect is godly if it hits
True towards Exca but how many times can you do that at 200k cruor a pop, it's not feasible.
Hell, my Ancile shield and Dynamis Sword with 36 jades + 56 Monts towards stage 4 & 5 down the drain once I saw the 2nd abyss expansion turning relics into a whopping 4~7+ xtra DMG with +5 attack per 5 lvls for my PLD... wtf is that!?
Doesn't help PLD are useless inside Abyss. Almace > Exca, Ochain shield > Aegis. My Ancile and Dynamis Sword sit as decorations for my mannequin now. f u SE

Abyssea is great for EXPing, but I can barely bring myself to play FFXI anymore because EVERYTHING revolves around Abyssea now; It's like the rest of Vana'diel is useless. I don't blame people for quitting, but fact of the matter is, XI > XIV for the next year or two.
I laugh at all the people who quit over this level cap raise... Abyssea is the FASTEST exp the game has ever seen. You can go from 75 to 85 in a night of NON HARDCORE play.
I havent played for years, nor do I plan to again.. but what I wanna know is whats going to happen to Merit points? Do you gain a level AND a merit point after 75?
@TheInnerSanctuary I don't think so. If I remember correctly, you had to switch between XP and Merits at your mog house. You get either a level or a merit.
Well, Times change and the MMOs change. You need to get with the times or get ran over and left in the dust by them. I was an original beta tester, and I am thoroughly enjoying all the new shit they're doing and cant wait for more.

7Lv 75 jobs PLD,RNG,DRK,BST,SMN,BLM,BRD and Corsair lv 68. I m stopping wont lv Corsair more and i think i m going to start over with FFXIV, i love FFXI but spending so much time just to get lv 99 feels waste of time becuse the game only got couple years in life span if not less. yes and no... you do realize how much exp it will require to achieve 99 xD! all my jobs are gimp now, not to mention all the sub jobs i don't have gear for... lol
Grinding is part of what I loved about FFXI, at least on the jobs I loved. If you have jobs leveled that you hate, but didn't know you hated them until much later (my blm), you aren't missing much on those jobs anymore. And if you loved leveling those jobs (can't wait to level BST more ^^) - there is more of that to come! Its the first chance FFXI has seen to 'break away' from the cliques and niches and let other players into your daily play since it's US release. It's just gonna be awesome!
8 75 jobs. I wasn't going to lvl any more jobs. I can't stand lvlin any more. I got most of my merits the old fashion way. Any merits I get now are from smn burns because I cant stand merit parties any more. I enjoy doing events and hitting up campaign battles to keep each job over 30k exp. This lvl 99 crap, I don't think I can take that shit. I always said I will play FFXI until the wheels fall off. Never would I have guessed adding more wheels would make me leave. FUCK U SE
I feel similar, but from what my SE contacts have told me, they're also raising the level of all job breaker/maker spells and abilities... hello refresh 50 and convert 51... and all our uber gear will still be uber at 99, especially with the magion quests about to upgrade em even further XD

I dunno about that, in the update pics there is clearly a WHM in AF gear using convert. Maybe they'll gimp convert on a subjob (like meditate) or give it two stages.
Trial of the Magion seems just too ridiculous for me, upgrading any weapon a grand total of 80 times???? Comeon SE... dont kill the game before it dies, let it fade away with some dignity.
about the lvl increase... imagine a lvl increase EACH expansion.. thats the life in wow, every freaking expansion your gear becomes 100% gimp and useless
at least in ffxi we could keep using our low lvl gear for lvl restricted events :P

I think if they don't completely randomize and work hard to make the Trial of Magians gear boosts gimp, we could possibly build up our Lv75 gear to something even better than what's easily accessible at Lv99 for gear. It's a very good idea in theory, but so were Evoliths and so far, I've been less than impressed.
If the Trial of the Magians is as awesome as it sounds, I think SE easily fixed the gear issue before it started.
I'm not as excited about the Trial of Magians, sure it can buff gear, but to me, with the "80 additions" approach, it sounds far more like another form of Merits to me. And to top that off, they announced 'another form of merits at 99" that is different from that. essentially you now have 3 time-sinks doing the same thing, outside of leveling, which also does the same thing. It will still be interesting, and I can't wait for it! But at the same time it's a lot to think about!
FFXI came out in Oct 2003, WoW in Nov 2004. WoW has had two level cap increases, TBC (10 levels) came out Jan 2007, WotLK (10 levels) in Nov 2008.
This is the first one for FFXI, and it's by such an enormous amount (24 levels). Also, there's the whole thing about subjobs, which people will now have to get back on and level another 12 levels. Not looking forward to that.
its not the first one for FFXI.... and as far as i know, they wont unlock level to 99 in one shot, so ppl can get some time to lvl, enjoy their time, then back to lvling later on.

Relic's will STILL be the most powerful weapons in the game if you Magis them right so the argument is null and void.
And just because a party of 3 people can Run Dynamis at 99 doesn't mean they don't have to pay the money to enter dynamis, IT STILL COSTS THE SAME IN THE END, you just have fewer people to worry about. Hell it'll probably take longer with only 3 people to unlock a relic at 99 then it would a full alliance at 75.
WoW does this every expansion. The only difference? You can't raise the effective level of old gear in WoW to make it compete with the new stuff like you will be able too with the Magis System.
Even if Magis quest will uppgrade lv 75gear that wont be the point making the g ears obsolete, the point will be all lv 99 will get the same gear so much faster in couple weeks, which took us hard workers years. The game is oficially death for me. All my salvage gear, Relic weapon might still be good but 5 lv 99 will farm Dynamis and get it much faster thats what will make it obsolete. I will not do the same misstake playing FFXIV 8 years just to get assraped. SE games is over for me.
We dont know nothing about anything they will release if the new gear will obsolete anything or if the dynamis will ba capped and much more and you are like your life is ending lols just wait and see what will happen...

Congratulations.
You focused on one single update point in the whole Update, and failed to acknowledge the points that help counter ALL of the "Negatives" of upping the Cap to 99.
For one The Magis system will allow you to do Quests that will raise your equipment's effective level UP to 99. So Relics will STILL be the most powerful weapons in the game if you Magis them right, and ALL EQUIPMENT ITEMS can be Magis Upgraded, including Rare/EX, Artifact, Relic, and Mystic items.
I think its rather sad you take it honestly tbh. This was obviously made as a joke.

7Lv 75 jobs PLD,RNG,DRK,BST,SMN,BLM,BRD and Corsair lv 68. I m stopping wont lv Corsair more and i think i m going to start over with FFXIV, i love FFXI but spending so much time just to get lv 99 feels waste of time becuse the game only got couple years in life span if not less. I rather spend the time and effort on FFXIV which have a lot longer life time hopefully it wont suck.The Hardcore is like 5% population now i m sure majority is happy with this update.5% frome 500000 is 25000 players.

Grinding is part of what I loved about FFXI, at least on the jobs I loved. If you have jobs leveled that you hate, but didn't know you hated them until much later (my blm), you aren't missing much on those jobs anymore. And if you loved leveling those jobs (can't wait to level BST more ^^) - there is more of that to come! Its the first chance FFXI has seen to 'break away' from the cliques and niches and let other players into your daily play since it's US release. It's just gonna be awesome!

8 75 jobs. I wasn't going to lvl any more jobs. I can't stand lvlin any more. I got most of my merits the old fashion way. Any merits I get now are from smn burns because I cant stand merit parties any more. I enjoy doing events and hitting up campaign battles to keep each job over 30k exp. This lvl 99 crap, I don't think I can take that shit. I always said I will play FFXI until the wheels fall off. Never would I have guessed adding more wheels would make me leave. FUCK U SE

I feel similar, but from what my SE contacts have told me, they're also raising the level of all job breaker/maker spells and abilities... hello refresh 50 and convert 51... and all our uber gear will still be uber at 99, especially with the magion quests about to upgrade em even further XD
My biggest issue is the world merger, not the level cap-break...

I dunno about that, in the update pics there is clearly a WHM in AF gear using convert. Maybe they'll gimp convert on a subjob (like meditate) or give it two stages.
Trial of the Magion seems just too ridiculous for me, upgrading any weapon a grand total of 80 times???? Comeon SE... dont kill the game before it dies, let it fade away with some dignity.

about the lvl increase... imagine a lvl increase EACH expansion.. thats the life in wow, every freaking expansion your gear becomes 100% gimp and useless
at least in ffxi we could keep using our low lvl gear for lvl restricted events :P
as far as i can tell, SE been experimenting with ffxi lately to figure out what they do with ffxiv, instead of "whining" hope ppl will give positive feedback ^^

Loved this video too, but I'm hopeful about the Lv. cap increase.
I think if they don't completely randomize and work hard to make the Trial of Magians gear boosts gimp, we could possibly build up our Lv75 gear to something even better than what's easily accessible at Lv99 for gear. It's a very good idea in theory, but so were Evoliths and so far, I've been less than impressed.
If the Trial of the Magians is as awesome as it sounds, I think SE easily fixed the gear issue before it started.

I'm not as excited about the Trial of Magians, sure it can buff gear, but to me, with the "80 additions" approach, it sounds far more like another form of Merits to me. And to top that off, they announced 'another form of merits at 99" that is different from that. essentially you now have 3 time-sinks doing the same thing, outside of leveling, which also does the same thing. It will still be interesting, and I can't wait for it! But at the same time it's a lot to think about!

FFXI came out in Oct 2003, WoW in Nov 2004. WoW has had two level cap increases, TBC (10 levels) came out Jan 2007, WotLK (10 levels) in Nov 2008.
This is the first one for FFXI, and it's by such an enormous amount (24 levels). Also, there's the whole thing about subjobs, which people will now have to get back on and level another 12 levels. Not looking forward to that.

its not the first one for FFXI.... and as far as i know, they wont unlock level to 99 in one shot, so ppl can get some time to lvl, enjoy their time, then back to lvling later on.

@Jirras Its actually the 3rd in japan. Their version of the game started at lvl 50 cap before Zilart. US got Zilart with the game.

Really, all FF games lvl til 99 so it was actually a lil weird the cap for FFXI was 75. Either way, this vid rocks and people should just get on with it and enjoy the game. Its still a great game ^^

Yeah putting it in that prospective i agree with everything. worked our asses off for what we have, and now its gimp ass gear, and WHM with convert. Farmed my ass off for the gear i have now, and when the lvl increases, the gear is probably gonna drop, and there goes all my money =( not worth selling my gear back, "Hurry up FFXIV" FUCK FFXI!

All those skills are going to be rebalanced for Subjob usage.
Convert will probably have a cap of how much it can HP/MP is converted probably less then half of normal, or a third.

Relic's will STILL be the most powerful weapons in the game if you Magis them right so the argument is null and void.
And just because a party of 3 people can Run Dynamis at 99 doesn't mean they don't have to pay the money to enter dynamis, IT STILL COSTS THE SAME IN THE END, you just have fewer people to worry about. Hell it'll probably take longer with only 3 people to unlock a relic at 99 then it would a full alliance at 75.

WoW does this every expansion. The only difference? You can't raise the effective level of old gear in WoW to make it compete with the new stuff like you will be able too with the Magis System.

Even if Magis quest will uppgrade lv 75gear that wont be the point making the g ears obsolete, the point will be all lv 99 will get the same gear so much faster in couple weeks, which took us hard workers years. The game is oficially death for me. All my salvage gear, Relic weapon might still be good but 5 lv 99 will farm Dynamis and get it much faster thats what will make it obsolete. I will not do the same misstake playing FFXIV 8 years just to get assraped. SE games is over for me.

Congratulations.
You focused on one single update point in the whole Update, and failed to acknowledge the points that help counter ALL of the "Negatives" of upping the Cap to 99.
For one The Magis system will allow you to do Quests that will raise your equipment's effective level UP to 99. So Relics will STILL be the most powerful weapons in the game if you Magis them right, and ALL EQUIPMENT ITEMS can be Magis Upgraded, including Rare/EX, Artifact, Relic, and Mystic items.
