i'm having a hard time choosing between this camera and the nikon coolpix p100.

i'm getting a lot of mixed reviews, could you please help me out? i'm mainly looking for great picture quality, the video feature is a bonus.

@YTmember06 i had the same problem as you. honestly i thought the coolpix p100 would be the better choice but as i read more i saw the sony hx1 and did research and looked at photos from both cameras. sony took the cake because of the sharp high resolution cameras thank to the exmor and bionz technology they use in their cameras. the nikon p100 has great zoom 26x that is but its not the best quality and they both have full HD. i recomend the sony for anything. hope this helped :)

Several people are complaining about the choppy video. The video locks up regardless format/codec. Raw or compressed. Especially when the camera is moving around. But it takes decent photos and I like the panaramic stich feature. But don't expect to use it as a high def video camera because that function doesn't seem to work well with most people. It's good for taking quick video but not as a true high resolution video.

You just can't use the program that comes with the camera, but iPhoto is very similar to it!

And the manual does work on a mac, it's a pdf, I think.

Hi... The HX1 has high definition video, 20X optical zoom, a little more angular lens, a better sensor and others things in quality image. I have too the H50... the HX1 Doesn't have remot control, night shot, raw format, has the same megapixels than H50. Of course is better, but if you see both are the same, If you want, you can wait to the next year , save you money I thing in the PMA LAS VEGAS march 2010 the next camera model is coming, much better just wait, thanks.

Remember, megapixel = nothing! It's down to the lens. If you have a high MP but a crap lens the quality will still suck, it'll just be more obvious it sucks as there's more pixels to show you how sucky it is!

No, megapixels=image size, lens=optical features, zoom, able to conentrate light etc, the cell defines the image quality. With bad cell you can't shoot proper pictures even if you had terapixels or the best lences out there.

I know, that's what I was getting at. People assume that the bigger the MP count the better the image, it's just a bigger image, not better. You need a decent lens to make use of all that space.

@TalesOfWar: it is also the image sensor. You could have a 10mp camera with a small sensor and the picture would be crap and noisy. but if you had a 10mp camera with a bigger sensor the image would be clean and clear.

@TalesOfWar not only the lens,but the size of the sensor and type of processing engine.if you have crap lens,but a 23.6x15.8 sensor,you will get some good shots,but maybe some fuzz at the ending. this camera uses a 1/2.4 sensor.23/6x15.8 is nearly 20x larger then that size.but megapixel does do it,the higher it is,the more noise there is (to small for the sensor to work on the noise in each pixel) and less clearity.but you do get better crops due to the large pixel count.

I beleive the CPU's in all current Macs support hardware virtualisation (another reason they cost more than PC's, most PC makers use CPU's that don't support that to save money). So, in theory yep. Otherwise just install Virtual Box or VMWare Fusion, or Paralells Desktop. Only thing with that is you need a copy of XP handy. The XP Mode in 7 is a prelicenced copy.
