pistols aren't completely banned in the uk. they are allowed as long as they are single shot and have a barrel of 12 inches or longer and have a total length of 24 inches or more. semiautomatic pistols are allowed in .22 only. also an exemption exists for firearms made before 1917, and a good friend of mine has a m1911 officers pistol date stamped 1915, which he inherited from his great great grandfather.
That accident did not stem from the Uncle's carelessness. It is the deliberate disregard of the English government for public safety. Demonizing or banning firearms does not help the public. They just lable firearms as evil and anyone associated with them as Demons. In reality, the English Parliament is mistifying firearms. Any lawless will take advantage of most lawful's ignorance. Isn't it the same as a magician pulling wool over your eyes?
The English fail. They don't even give their citizens the right to own arms, without excessive regulations like children. The NRA is a deceptive org. who has done a lot for for regulating the 2nd admen. edfire73 is gave us an example. Look it up, and read the history behind the staff.
@aaronscrewme you're a total JACKASS, the NRA fights for legal ownership and carry rights. currently 49 of 50 states have the right to concealed carry, due to the NRA, we are fighting now for the 50th state, Illinois, which is ruled by commie/democrats. look it up DICKWEED! i'm an NRA Patron Life member!
@mrbadx19 I'm happy that 49:50 have the right to CCW but that right was given by God under the 2nd amend. Don't be a dupe by crying dickweed because you are ignorant of historical facts. Great video - As an independant photographer I've been called on lots of times to cover stories and events. I always try to tell the actual story or event as it happens without bias. However over the years I have found that many news companies and other entities prefer to "edit" the photo's or story to suit a prefered view or statement that either makes better ratings or dramatizes a story beyond it's original content.

@UncleBob556 - It seems that the real news doesn't matter and people change the story to fit their personal views, beliefs or politcal status. Sometimes just to make something look like something else. To me this is wrong, and this is why I've stopped working for these organizations.

This is the result of forcing people to be ignorant of firearms. A larger caliber would have ended this story differently. Cool info on the pistol Sootch, thanks.

When guns are illegal, only criminals have guns...because they can't read.
I've considered emigrating a number of times, however i love my island and can't bear to leave it behind no matter how much i hate the people that run it. Maybe one day that will change though.
Firearms can be fun, but like any dangerous device, responsibility, safety and common sense must be taught and adhered to.
Having our firearms taken away from us means people here aren't as educated about them as they once were. Keep on shooting bru.
this why i always say if your going to have guns in your home you should make sure everyone in your home knows what it is and how to use it saftly my 5 year old son knows how to take down my p22 and will know soon how to handle my lcp i do not let hem handle it loaded and i really have ammo in my home
I'm not surprised the BBC didn't show your footage in a good light nor show it nationwide, they're unjustly biased and censor everything before they broadcast. This is why i don't watch tv at all anymore, as i'm sick to the back teeth of the brainwashing culture of the big media corporations.
The father should have turned in the pistol considering the law here on this island.
Admittedly i hate my government for taking away our shooting culture as i was raised a shooter. Sorry for the rant Sootch but it's something that hurts me every time it's mentioned. i'm an active campaigner for bringing back pistols to the UK. Our own Olympic pistol shooting team has to train in Swizerland! It's ridiculous!
Thanks for the great vids Sootch. Keep up the good work bro. thanks again.
Very unfortunate story about that young man. Just a thought, guns have been banned in England. So i assume there hasn't been any gun safety being taught there. How many will die for lack of basic knowledge of weapons? Putting the father in jail? How about putting the people responsible for keeping the population ignorant of safety in jail.
Being a Brit i'm appauled at reading that report considering pistols are illegal here, the father shouldn't have o
We were once a great nation of shooters and the government took away our right as law-abiding citizens to own firearms.
Back in the day violent crime rates were so much lower than they are today.
All the government did was penalize law-abiding shooters (like myself). It didn't affect criminals as criminals don't follow the letter of law and can obtain firearms illegally with ease.
Awesome video. This Beretta was my self-defense gun on a very hostile environment in Brazil, back in 80's. Never felt under powered. As a matter of fact I've learned one would drop anything in hands ( and that includes a 44) when shot to the face with a little dandy like this. You got to love this one.
@lhusby Here's some fun trivia :) This Beretta pistol was the original side arm for James Bond (007) in the novels and first film, until he was forced to switch over to the Walter PPK. :)
@lhusby Providing you can put one in their face. In a defensive situation a face shot may not present itself. I have a pocket .25, while better than nothing it's terribly under powered. These days the small .380s are a MUCH better option. And my LCP is even smaller,and accurate. But a .25 is better that throwing rocks, small rocks anyway.
@grizz474 Agree on the caliber issue. But remember this is a close and personal range gun. Not so hard to hit the face of an assailant on this scenario. Think of the rapists, and bad guys with knives coming to get their victims. I was just pointing to one more way to stop a threat. I made a video on the LCP. I traded in a S&W 642. Too much FTF and FTE even when loaded with fine ammo.
@Jaybird616 I agree, I'm from the UK and the ignorent, immature and childish attitude towards firearms that I see in some (not all) of my countrymen annoys me so much (e.g OMG OMG FIREARMS KILL! BAN IT! BAN IT! BAN IT!). Its not supprising though as the vast majority of the people here have never been exposed to any sort of pro-gun argument in their entire lives.
Criminals still get guns here, people still get shot here. After handguns were banned here in 1997 handgun crime more than doubled.
@Nocturnox65 I left my original comment to (successfully) defeat half of your argument, (which you clearly didn't notice) and I said that the crime RATE is higher in England. I will thank Shn1fty for pointing that out. Oh and BTW I think we both got our statistics from the same site, and you'll probably notice if you do more digging that the statistics are about half and half when it comes to which country they favor.
the reason total crime per person is higher in the UK is that crime is defined differently in both countries, therefore its better to compare particular crimes, like murder which is much higher in the US. and btw England is not UK.
@Nocturnox65 You're right, UK not England, sorry about that. As for your crime comparison, very well, how about taking a look into the UK's burglary, car theft, and assault rates?
@Nocturnox65 So what you're saying is that having a slightly lower murder rate makes up for having a grossly higher overall crime rate.
Bad guys will always have guns. I bet our murder rate would go down if we convinced more people to carry a firearm. I'm willing to bet the firearm murders were against defenseless people.
@Shn1fty 'slightly' is actually 3 times higher, and as i said total crime rate is higher because there are many things in the UK that are considered to be 'crime' which are not technically crime in the US
if the report is true, i think the stepfather should do more then 5 years, he told the kid to put the gun to his head, he fled the scene(atleast he called for help first) and he destroyed evidence.
My uncle who is a police officer carries one of these as a back up weapon. I remember going to stay with him in the summer and he always kept it laying on his end table with barrel tipped up. I had always been around guns, but I just could never figure out how or why the barrel looked like that until I got older. Great video Sootch.
I would have explained the operation of the hammer, firing pin, and the safety catch. Also, I would have pointed out that in some guns (e.g. Browning HP) removing the magazine does render the weapon incapable of firing providing it is functioning as designed. However, no mechanical safety device can be relied upon and the Four Rules need to be applied.
hey just a little tip (well this applies to sony vegas i am not familiar with other programs u may use or if it is the same) when u stretch the video for slomo right click the audio click properties and click lock to stretch to get rid of that echo sound that ruins the audio in slomo
I love these guns.. I got one for my girl back in the day. They're sweet little guns, but I had some problems with th slide hitting the top fat of my hand: hurt like hell!
Well done Sootch, Sadly this goes to show the banning guns only hurts good people. If gun laws were similar in england as they are here in America there is a good chance that the young boy would of known never to pull the trigger of an unknown gun. Good to hear he has not died though.
it's a mandatory 5 yr sentence in the UK if you are caught with a handgun.
I was watching a remember watching a TV show basically it was a British version of cops it showed them dealing with three criminals, 2 of them were convicted of stabbing a person and was given a 18 month sentence each. The last guy's only crime as walking the streets of London with a .38 special in his waste-band and he was given a 5 yr sentence make any sense to you?
It reminds me of what my dad told me of Brittan after working there for a long time, in America you are punished by the law when you do something wrong but in Brittan your are punished when you have the POTENTIAL to do something wrong.
It is a shame that accident happened. If they just knew some basics of firearm safty, they may not have been hurt. They sometimes do studies were they hide a firearm that does not fire were children (parents approving) can find it to test reactions. Most children from the USA picked up the weapon, examined it, put it back down and ran to an athority figure to report it.
I love my 950. It has been my little friend for 20 years. Never has failed me. I also have the dreaded, evil, sure to be the end of the world, Galco Leather wallet shoot thru pocket holster. No banned in the state of Florida...Gunny Z
You should ask yourself why they didn't contact Beretta. If any organization contacts you about your firearm something is awry. Unless you are a company rep. and I missed it, I don't know why they would contact you.
@Monophony1 Well, he has been in the news a few other times. News organizations seem to go to him when ever they need some firearm stock footage...for some reason, lol. Anyway, you are right though to be suspitious of them not going to Beretta. Beretta may have refused to make any comment to them though.
@Monophony1 It's no suprise at all. YouTube has become a powerful media outlet and I've already had video aired on ABC Nightline and other local media news.The videos are for public use if you allow access by Cell phones. That way, they don't have to have permission. Collette Hume, BBC reporter contacted me directly. Nutnfancy has had videos aired on MSNBC and others. Why would they contact Beretta and deal with their legal defense team?
@sootch00 In my circle I am the gun expert, I don't consider myself the expert but when asked I have referred many people to Youtube on more than just guns.
@sootch00 I'm not saying you are not qualified, and I am not devaluing the information available on You Tube. I apologize if you interpreted my comment that way.
Are you joking? "There's no such thing as an accidental discharge." Soldiers get shot in the army by mistake all the time, and you say safety is a sure thing? What training do you have?
The NRA EXPLICITY teaches in their Basic Pistol Course that "a safety is a device that can fail." Not only that, my friend HAS a Beretta 92FS that has a broken safety. You can also make Remington 870 safety fail by slamming the stock against a wall.
@sarsattacks First off, you do realize the man in question put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger? I'm sorry if you interpreted the statement in another way. The statement means that action is required for a gun to go off. A gun will sit for a thousand years and never go off unless acted upon by an outside forces. Guns are a serious matter, and as such even if you had a negligent discharge you are still responsible for the results. No accidents, only negligence.
"I'm sorry if you interpreted the statement in another way."
This is your words, copied and pasted: Beretta makes a very safe firearm, as long as you don't see red "you won't be dead." You now note to not rely on a safety, so it IS confusing on what the heck you are talking about.
Also, accidental discharge and negligent discharge is the same thing. If you look it up, the term used is different depending on where you are.
@sarsattacks When guns are concerned there are no accidents, you are responsible for anything you do. My neighbor's eleven year old son is in a grave right now, because, he choose to rely on a safety, and ignore proper handling skills. I have seen what poor safety does, I have seen the bloody body, I have seen his parents cry. You are always responsible for your actions with a firearm, THERE ARE NO ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGES.
sure....i agree with this, the guy is a tool for taking pictures with his step son. when not understanding if the firearm was cleared!
but that's the problem with a nanny state though...normal items become put on the 'dangerous & scary' list and people then don't learn the necessary skills required for operation of such items. Then one day an idiot fiends a firearm and you end up with a kid shot!
sounds like a lot of propaganda to me....What are they teaching the ART of Avoiding Responsibility..... i would never honor or bow to a government order to disarm....THANK GOD for our constitution
That's what happens to a society which bans handguns. The population becomes ignorant, and silly accidents like that happens. They have nobody to blame but the British government.
@633562 Yeah because we don't still have gun accidents in the US...kind of an ignorant statement actually. I mean I am for handguns but your argument is weak
i am a STRONG SUPPORTER of the NRA and our the freedoms here at home USA.
but lets be honest, the guy was irresponsible if i find a gun here i wouldnt even pick it up especially in a place where i know you cant own one.... is 5 years a little much, yes... but the guy is still a idiot. andcould of cost that kid his life .."for playing with guns"... the law is law.. if we think its silly fight it through the proper channels
@aj45colt the charge is absurd the only thing they can charge him with appropriately would be 'danger to one's self' but the criminalization of guns is totally illegitimate and no one should honor that i encourage all UK citizens to manufacture guns and knives and brandish them in public....
That's a cool little gun!! I think i'm gonna go get me one! And I'm thankful that I still can unlike those poor saps across the pond...God bless America..
I'm a little confused about how the gun spits out the empty casing...is it coming out the back of the gun by the hammer or is the barrel snapping up and popping the round out...I don't understand how the spent casing is coming out without an ejector. I tried looking at the slow footage but couldn't conclusively figure it out. Any help?
Churchill must be rolling in his grave at the thought of the country & people he fought so hard to protect having to lose their lives & freedoms becouse of their idiotic gun laws.

That father is deserving of his sentence. A full grown man should no better. It all boils down to gun safety and being a responsible adult.
thenerdsgetchicks 1 year ago
I'm not surprised the BBC didn't show your footage in a good light nor show it nationwide, they're unjustly biased and censor everything before they broadcast. This is why i don't watch tv at all anymore, as i'm sick to the back teeth of the brainwashing culture of the big media corporations.
BoydMort 1 year ago
The father should have turned in the pistol considering the law here on this island.
Admittedly i hate my government for taking away our shooting culture as i was raised a shooter. Sorry for the rant Sootch but it's something that hurts me every time it's mentioned. i'm an active campaigner for bringing back pistols to the UK. Our own Olympic pistol shooting team has to train in Swizerland! It's ridiculous!
Thanks for the great vids Sootch. Keep up the good work bro. thanks again.
BoydMort 1 year ago
Very unfortunate story about that young man. Just a thought, guns have been banned in England. So i assume there hasn't been any gun safety being taught there. How many will die for lack of basic knowledge of weapons? Putting the father in jail? How about putting the people responsible for keeping the population ignorant of safety in jail.
TheBeeperman 1 year ago

You got to love this one.
lhusby 1 year ago
@lhusby Here's some fun trivia :) This Beretta pistol was the original side arm for James Bond (007) in the novels and first film, until he was forced to switch over to the Walter PPK. :)
SPeacock 1 year ago
@lhusby Providing you can put one in their face. In a defensive situation a face shot may not present itself. I have a pocket .25, while better than nothing it's terribly under powered. These days the small .380s are a MUCH better option. And my LCP is even smaller,and accurate. But a .25 is better that throwing rocks, small rocks anyway.
grizz474 1 year ago
@grizz474 Agree on the caliber issue. But remember this is a close and personal range gun. Not so hard to hit the face of an assailant on this scenario. Think of the rapists, and bad guys with knives coming to get their victims. I was just pointing to one more way to stop a threat. I made a video on the LCP. I traded in a S&W 642. Too much FTF and FTE even when loaded with fine ammo.

Jaybird616 1 year ago 36
@Jaybird616 I agree, I'm from the UK and the ignorent, immature and childish attitude towards firearms that I see in some (not all) of my countrymen annoys me so much (e.g OMG OMG FIREARMS KILL! BAN IT! BAN IT! BAN IT!). Its not supprising though as the vast majority of the people here have never been exposed to any sort of pro-gun argument in their entire lives.
Criminals still get guns here, people still get shot here. After handguns were banned here in 1997 handgun crime more than doubled.
JustAnotherGuy186 1 year ago
@Jaybird616 and somehow murder rates and crime rates are much lower than in US, lack of uns for public is a good thing
Nocturnox65 1 year ago
@Nocturnox65 Try again, UK has higher crime rates.

@thedealer456
US = 11,877,218 Crimes per year
UK = 6,523,706 Crimes per year
Nocturnox65 1 year ago
@Nocturnox65
US population = 295,734,134
UK population = 60,441,457
The crime to population ratios are suddenly not in your favor.
Shn1fty 1 year ago
@Shn1fty
The math equates to this:
US = 1 out of 24 people commit a crime
UK = 1 out of 9 people commit a crime
FYI
Shn1fty 1 year ago
@Shn1fty Thank you for pointing out that I said RATE, not NUMBER. Smart people FTW!
thedealer456 1 year ago
@Shn1fty
the thing is, different things are considered as crime in different countries.
lets take murder as an example then;
US = 0.042802 murders per 1,000 people
UK = 0.0140633 murders per 1,000 people
Nocturnox65 1 year ago
@Nocturnox65 I left my original comment to (successfully) defeat half of your argument, (which you clearly didn't notice) and I said that the crime RATE is higher in England. I will thank Shn1fty for pointing that out. Oh and BTW I think we both got our statistics from the same site, and you'll probably notice if you do more digging that the statistics are about half and half when it comes to which country they favor.
thedealer456 1 year ago
the reason total crime per person is higher in the UK is that crime is defined differently in both countries, therefore its better to compare particular crimes, like murder which is much higher in the US. and btw England is not UK.
Nocturnox65 1 year ago
@Nocturnox65 You're right, UK not England, sorry about that. As for your crime comparison, very well, how about taking a look into the UK's burglary, car theft, and assault rates?
thedealer456 1 year ago
@Nocturnox65 So what you're saying is that having a slightly lower murder rate makes up for having a grossly higher overall crime rate.
Bad guys will always have guns. I bet our murder rate would go down if we convinced more people to carry a firearm. I'm willing to bet the firearm murders were against defenseless people.
Shn1fty 1 year ago
@Shn1fty 'slightly' is actually 3 times higher, and as i said total crime rate is higher because there are many things in the UK that are considered to be 'crime' which are not technically crime in the US

My uncle who is a police officer carries one of these as a back up weapon. I remember going to stay with him in the summer and he always kept it laying on his end table with barrel tipped up. I had always been around guns, but I just could never figure out how or why the barrel looked like that until I got older. Great video Sootch.
metalhead2508 1 year ago
I would have explained the operation of the hammer, firing pin, and the safety catch. Also, I would have pointed out that in some guns (e.g. Browning HP) removing the magazine does render the weapon incapable of firing providing it is functioning as designed. However, no mechanical safety device can be relied upon and the Four Rules need to be applied.

it's a mandatory 5 yr sentence in the UK if you are caught with a handgun.
I was watching a remember watching a TV show basically it was a British version of cops it showed them dealing with three criminals, 2 of them were convicted of stabbing a person and was given a 18 month sentence each. The last guy's only crime as walking the streets of London with a .38 special in his waste-band and he was given a 5 yr sentence make any sense to you?
sks2000 1 year ago
It reminds me of what my dad told me of Brittan after working there for a long time, in America you are punished by the law when you do something wrong but in Brittan your are punished when you have the POTENTIAL to do something wrong.
sks2000 1 year ago
It is a shame that accident happened. If they just knew some basics of firearm safty, they may not have been hurt. They sometimes do studies were they hide a firearm that does not fire were children (parents approving) can find it to test reactions. Most children from the USA picked up the weapon, examined it, put it back down and ran to an athority figure to report it.

You should ask yourself why they didn't contact Beretta. If any organization contacts you about your firearm something is awry. Unless you are a company rep. and I missed it, I don't know why they would contact you.
Monophony1 1 year ago
@Monophony1 Well, he has been in the news a few other times. News organizations seem to go to him when ever they need some firearm stock footage...for some reason, lol. Anyway, you are right though to be suspitious of them not going to Beretta. Beretta may have refused to make any comment to them though.
Jesses001 1 year ago
@Monophony1 It's no suprise at all. YouTube has become a powerful media outlet and I've already had video aired on ABC Nightline and other local media news.The videos are for public use if you allow access by Cell phones. That way, they don't have to have permission. Collette Hume, BBC reporter contacted me directly. Nutnfancy has had videos aired on MSNBC and others. Why would they contact Beretta and deal with their legal defense team?

itachi1303 1 year ago
@Monophony1
They probably did, but it would be bad press to explain to the public why there was an accidental discharge with your company's firearm.
sarsattacks 1 year ago
@sarsattacks There is no such thing as an accidental discharge. Beretta makes a very safe firearm, as long as you don't see red "you won't be dead."
Monophony1 1 year ago
@Monophony1
You can also make Remington 870 safety fail by slamming the stock against a wall.
sarsattacks 1 year ago
@sarsattacks First off, you do realize the man in question put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger? I'm sorry if you interpreted the statement in another way. The statement means that action is required for a gun to go off. A gun will sit for a thousand years and never go off unless acted upon by an outside forces. Guns are a serious matter, and as such even if you had a negligent discharge you are still responsible for the results. No accidents, only negligence.
Monophony1 1 year ago
@Monophony1
If you look it up, the term used is different depending on where you are.
sarsattacks 1 year ago
@sarsattacks When guns are concerned there are no accidents, you are responsible for anything you do. My neighbor's eleven year old son is in a grave right now, because, he choose to rely on a safety, and ignore proper handling skills. I have seen what poor safety does, I have seen the bloody body, I have seen his parents cry. You are always responsible for your actions with a firearm, THERE ARE NO ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGES.
Monophony1 1 year ago
sure....i agree with this, the guy is a tool for taking pictures with his step son. when not understanding if the firearm was cleared!
but that's the problem with a nanny state though...normal items become put on the 'dangerous & scary' list and people then don't learn the necessary skills required for operation of such items. Then one day an idiot fiends a firearm and you end up with a kid shot!
