It's a shame ppl let their cars sit in the woods to rust and decay like that. Too many ppl would pay good money for them if they were in better condition.
You really can't blame anyone--that was and still is our throw-away culture. A 1956 Nomad was replaced by a 1957 and dumped--who knew anyone would appreciate what is now a classic car. It is, what it is.
I was at this auction and talked with the people living in the neighborhood , how this all came about was the guys 88 year old mother wanted the son to sell of the stuff and clear the property and wanted nothing to do with it . There was actually a real human full body skeleton hanging in the garden . From what the neighbor said they guy started collecting these cars in late 60s and the mother had tossed him out 6 mos before the auction . The good cars got sold before this auction
so sad a 56 chevy convertible :( 55 chevy nomad :( 59-60 chevy wagon panel very rare, OMG A 54 Corvette, That 61-64 impala looked like it was in good condition
sad to see those old cars just left there to rot. cars from back then had soul, personality, character, and attitude... at least there memory in someway will live on thanks to these photos and hopefully those that were purchased that day
@southhillcustoms There is no such thing as 'too far gone to be saved'. People say that coz it is not financially viable to renovate them to concours or custom condition. Here in England, more money is made selling the registration (license plate).
I must argue that a couple of those car could be saved. My father dug a 1930 Ford Tudor out of the sand and restored it completely for the original owners grandson. With enough money and time, anything can be saved.
Oh, yeah. I didn't stay to find out how much though. People were sitting on the car they wanted to bid on since dawn. I've restored some rust buckets, but I wouldn't take any of these for free, that's how neglected they were.
Makes me want to cry because anything is restorable. I've seen cars that sat in swamps that were brought back. I beginning to think many of these graveyards are being destroyed because of these environMENTALists air heads saying it's bad for the planet. RI is destroying some very vintage yards, RI authorities ordered it, SCREW RI that little piece of crap state!
I bought a 63 impala 2dr hdtp that had been sitting in a field since 1977. I have filmed its progress starting with removing it from that field and now I am driving it. See my videos on my youtube site, they are numbered. over 40 videos on this 63 impala, it looks about like these cars, but now its being used again!
I will never understand most people who have a classic most people if someone won't give them what they want for there car they won't sell and most of the time the car just sits and rots. If they would of sold the car to the person wanting to buy the car would of had a good home and someone who would of taken really good care of the car and not just let it sit and rot.
I like that old coupe @ 1:32, It looks like a '32 Ford. That was the first year they put V8's into Fords, but that one doesn't look like the original flathead.
Thats one of my honest to god fears. By the time Im settled somewhere and have a shop and money....there wont be any cars left. :( Its really sad to watch whats left of Americana wither away.
When classic car owners have them overpriced and refuse to sell for a reasonable price and scrap them they are just fucking themselves. GREEDY BASTARDS
I should know I have about 90 Classic Cars , In fact I just sold a 1960 Buick electra 4 Dr. HT with 60,000 original miles with plastic still on the seats for $2800.
>>> ALL these cars were crushed because the owners RESERVE was not met. So he crushed them ALL for high scrap prices at the time. Not ONE car or part was saved !
Damn i could seriously cry!!!!! if people cant do a full restoration at least turn it into a rat rod and let the monster run wild one more time! i have a 1920 something buick or dodge sitting in my yard but im getting stuff like a frame and everything to "build" it, even tho its a solid chunk a rust its going to run one last time regardless of how it looks.
dude i totally agree with you i am building a rat for my best frind and all the parts i have are found in the woods and my nabor has some stuff to we find this old stuff let them breah one more time cars are liviing things to.
The Nomad at 1:53 looked restorable. I would try to save that while it just in that shape. But, The downside of it is that he would want at least 10,000 for it. Or More!
I appreciate all the comments stating how these vehicles can be saved. I've been restoring for over 20 years, and I wouldn't take any of these projects (except the Corvette). The sheet metal was paper thin, frames rusted through, solid blocks of rust shaped like the car. You would need to replace EVERY single piece, which is basically just building it from scratch. You had to see the neglect up close to really know....they look better in the photos.
REAL nice video here! ...seems to say, No matter what we THINK might be important TODAY, TIME eventually covers it over and leaves it a faint memory...
This is probably the most depressing video I have ever seen...However, there was a shimmer of hope...one of the nomads looked pretty nice! And I dont know what it was, but the car at 1:32 looks very much restoreable...I wouldnt mind to get my paws on that.
I have seen a few cars that were to far gone one was a ford thunderbird it had been sitting there since who knows when and was buried in trash old trees and various other materials
I normally would agree, but there was so much neglect, so much rust, nothing was preserved. The sheet metal could be crumpled up like tin foil on most cars, and the frames were rotten through because they were in the dirt. It was so sad.
that. God Bless Him, only one car could not be fixed, it was an old Corvette (forget the year). But he said it was awful, what did'nt it need. NOT SCRAP PEOPLE OR THE TYPE THAT STUFF IT IN A BARN AND FORGET ABOUT NOR THE TYPE THAT TOSSES IT IN A FIELD AND SAY THEY WILL FIX IT BUT DON'T!
My cousin has turned cars like these and worse into dream machines. They all can be reborn. He found a Chevelle behind a gas station where worked. His boss sold it to him for just $15.00 It was like 1954 Corvette, stripped and clean, rusty, dented in places. To most it looked like a meal for the (do I dare say that damned phrase) car crusher. He turned that heap into a show car drag racer. It was bright orange, with an engine to match. He found an engine block in an old barn and worked off of.
me i got the 57 nomad and my friens got the 55 56 56 nomad there out back but the 57 i sold it was going to fix then fond one runing tag ti up on the road agin
I read once in one magazine , that there was a very rare (they said that there is only 2 more in the world) car in a forest near my city but it could be restored ... Car would cost around 2 million $ but ...
Gawd- this stuff kills me. I'm with you guys. I've met a ton of old guys who are going to "restore" it and never do. Still pestering one. Seeing this hurts. I guess that's why my garage and driveway are full of orphans. BUT- at least I sell, but it's like adopting a child with me. I gotta know it'll be saved.
its so sad these cars have so much history in them they dont belong in a junkyard they need to be restored and put back on the street who could allow this to happen to those beautiful cars
"No its not for sale. I'm gonna fix it up some day." '55 Buick owner I talked to in high school. 21 years later its too far gone and sitting in the same spot, rotting behind a barn. Dumb.
same thing happened to me when i tryed to get a 65 fastback from a guy at a contracting company its been sitting in the same place rusting away more and more each day but he keeps saying " Ill end up restoring it one of these days " dumbasses, they just let the car become as dust in the wind.
that car at 1:35 would be great for a hot rodder to get their hands on! imagine what you could do with it =) but still it makes me sick that many of the cars could of been saved but its hard to get them out or they are rusted to peices ='(
some of these cars could be saved but some of them will never get out of there :(
The cars that have big trees growing trough them must have been there since they were a couple of years old.
its a shame to see these timeless classic just there waiting to be restored. if i had the money i would buy the lot and try to save whats left of them :)
such a waste :(
